It’s safe to say that Hedley Wood Caravan & Camping Park is one of the most animal-friendly sites around: as well as the facilities for canine visitors, which have won plaudits from The Kennel Club, mini campers will do cartwheels when they find all the feathered and furry friends in the pets corner.
Message to Fido: there’s no extra charge for dogs, so bring your mates - the exercise area, exciting mile-long dog walk and shelves full of pooch produce in the shop will get tails wagging. Should your humans insist on boring sightseeing in places which haven’t yet grasped the concept of doggie service, you can always ditch them for a day’s partying in the reasonably priced kenneling facilities on site. Just remember to keep your owners happy by letting them pick up after you and parade you around on the lead outside of the canine fun zones. You can even pretend to let them choose the pitch - sheltered, open terrain or sea views. They do like to think they’re in charge, after all...
This is a well-equipped site: there are plenty of electric hook-ups, two modern toilet and shower blocks with free hot water, facilities for dishwashing, laundry and recharging of batteries and freezer packs, adventure playgrounds for both littlies and older kids, plus a shop for vittles and other camping essentials. Foodwise, the shop provides a takeaway snack menu, or there’s homemade grub served in the conservatory of the Woodman Bar (open throughout high season and at other busy times of year).

Nearby attractions and activities
Guests are spoiled for choice when it comes to brilliant beaches: Bude has two of the best, Summerleaze, which has an open air sea pool, and Crooklets, popular with surfers. Other good options nearby include Widemouth Bay, Crackington Haven (rockpooltastic) and the National Trust’s Sandymouth Bay, which has its own waterfall, plus Trebarwith Strand and Westward Ho! a little further afield.
Top ideas for day trips include the castles at Tintagel and Launceston; the pretty cobbled lanes and ancient harbour of Clovelly (cars are banned in the village, but there are plenty of donkeys); the Eden Project’s exotic architecture - and contents; Padstow Harbour, famously home to Rick Stein and his multiple tastebud-ticklers; the romantic fishing villages of Boscastle and Port Isaac; or Bodmin Jail, a historic civil and naval prison which is now a museum, and is famed for its ghost hunting opportunities.
There are three adventure parks for kiddiwinks in the area: Trethorne Leisure Farm, which has lots of cuddly farm animals, indoor sliding, bouncing and climbing, and outdoor action including pedalos, crazy golf and electric cars; Atlantis Adventure Park (note to mums: this is handily located within the the Atlantic Village shopping outlet...); and the Milky Way, which offers rides and roller coasters, assault courses, live shows and falconry displays.

Lovely relaxed site - we will be back! Kate_M (Family with young children) Confirmed

Liked: Firendly and accommodating staff with a lovely laid back attitude. My daughter said it was the best camping trip we have had! Our lab had a fab time too - this really is a dog friendly site. The kids loved the play area and the animals. Location was good for Widemouth & Bude beaches. We will definitely be back! Disliked: We arrived Friday evening so rushed trying to pitch up before it got dark and as we hadn't stayed there before we didn't have a tried and tested pitch! In the rush we tried a pitch that was close to the play park but the ground was a bit hard for our pegs and so we ended up having to move. Not a criticism of the site though, and they do sell heavy ...
Great family friendly and particularly dog friendly site Dawna Y. (Family with young children) Confirmed

A really enjoyable week Anonymous User (Family with older children)
Liked: The site was quite peaceful, Nice showers and not too commercial. Disliked: the campers came next to us and pitched too close to us, when there was plenty of space elsewhere.
Lovely site!! Samantha_W (Family with older children) Confirmed
?
Liked: that when we arrived, we were able to choose our pitch and pay when set up. The shower & toilet block at the top were very clean, at all times. No queues for showers, hot water every time, although you have to keep pressing tap for water as stops every 30 seconds or so. The play areas were great, kids loved them. Food in bar was great value, massive portions. Friendly staff. The layout of site ... Disliked: the toilets nearer the shop and reception, were clean, but some people didn't make sure their rubbish went into bins so made it look untidy. Also the cubicles were quite narrow, especially when you have to take a younger child to the toilet, bit of a squeeze.
