Life’s little stresses getting you down? Want to stow yourself away for a countryside break where everything is close to your pitch? Come along to Combe Martin’s Stowford Farm Meadows in north Devon for a bit of de-stressing in a rural setting: the park is a mile from the main road down its own private drive and is a well-placed base from which to explore the best of Devon. You can even get your caravan fitted out or fixed up on site – or pick up another one at the caravan sales. Now that’s what we call de-stressing in style…

Set among 500 acres of Devon woodland and meadows, Stowford Farm Meadows is one of our ‘very large’ sites – but fear not if your tastes tend towards the more solitary, as the park is divided into five separate camping and caravan fields and feels like several small sites rolled into one. And the overall size means there are heaps of facilities and activities for you to try your hand at, from cantering around on horseback with the help of the on-site riding centre, to driving the kids crazy with your swish moves at fun and crazy golf.

Looking for something a bit quieter? There are marked woodland walks into the wildlife-rich Bittadon Valley, with nature trails starting and finishing on site, or take the kids to play at Petorama, Stowford Farm Meadows’ undercover mini zoo. A heated indoor pool is available for a small extra charge.

All the essentials are well looked after too: there are five spacious amenity blocks, all with laundry facilities attached; disabled facilities; family bathroom and a licensed well-stocked shop with ATM. For putting feet up or letting hair down, there are two bars (with evening entertainment in peak season), a smart coffee lounge with takeaway, and a licensed restaurant with event nights including hog roast and barbecues. Even the dog will de-stress here, with a friendly welcome and a spacious dog-walking area on site…

Nearby attractions and activities

The highlights of north Devon are a pebble throw away, with Combe Martin on the doorstep, Ilfracombe a few miles away and Woolacombe and Croyde Bay within a short drive (if you forget your wetsuit, the clever sorts at Stowford sell them in the on-site shop).

Take little monsters to the animatronic dinosaurs, train ride and 250 species of wildlife at Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park where they can help feed the lions or have an experience with a bird of prey; they should also have a hoot at the Exmoor Owl and Hawk Centre in nearby Exmoor National Park or getting up and personal with the inhabitants at Barnstaple’s Exmoor Zoo. Not thrilling enough? Let them see stars at the Milky Way Adventure Park with the tallest rollercoaster in Devon, or whirl about the theme park and descend to the dungeon at Watermouth Castle.

There are plenty of relaxing options for calming frazzled nerves after a day on the rollercoasters: walking across the moors or having a Devon cream tea in one of the villages of Exmoor National Park, sea and lake fishing, golfing, or taking a boat trip to beautiful and peaceful Lundy Island, 12 miles off the coast in the Bristol Channel. Nocturnally inclined? Bring binoculars or hire a telescope at the National Park centres for a spot of stargazing: Exmoor National Park was the first designated Dark Sky Reserve in Europe.

The cobbled streets of Clovelly are a popular Devon tourist spot, although not for the faint-hearted or unfit: the streets here are so steep that goods are delivered on sledges. The village has over 70 listed buildings and links to the South West Coast Path at its top.

For other day trips, North Devon’s shopping capital Barnstaple has shops to suit all tastes for wallet-emptying; pick up some tasty local produce at the historic Pannier Market. Or indulge your sweet tooth at South Molton’s Quince Honey Farm, go south to see Devon’s most popular beauty spot Becky Falls or browse around the historical houses of Devon such as the National Trust’s Arlington Court.

Liked: Our first visit but we were so impressed that we shall be back again and bring the family. The toilet blocks were immaculate and lovely to have a bath available.
Reception were friendly and helpful as were all the staff on site. We tried the restaurant, takeaway and pub and the standard of food and drink was excellent. Sunday lunch was particularly impressive.
The swimming pool is a nice size and beautifully warm with clean ...

Disliked: We were in field 1 and our only worry is that nobody keeps to the speed limit of 10 mph and it would be risky with young children. We suggest some speed ramps such as those leading down to pub and swimming pool.
Be very careful with small children on site roads as so many people speed including staff vehicles.

Liked: The site is beautifully set out with lots to do and plenty to keep you occupied I found that if you wanted to you didn't have to leave the site with places for food and drink weather its a meal or just fish and chips or a quiet pint.

I found that the dog day care was very handy if you want to explore the shops in Ilfracombe and Barnstable or other surrounding towns ...

Disliked: The weather wasn't the best but that's what happens when you camp in Britain and that's part of the fun.

Terms and conditions

Please read the park terms and conditions below and the Pitchup.com terms and conditions.

- A booking constitutes a legal contract
- Once we have confirmed the booking you are responsible for the total pitch fees.

Cancellation plan

No refunds are given, except under the terms of the cancellation plan. We therefore cannot emphasise too strongly the wisdom of taking up this plan for a £1 per night premium.
We guarantee that this payment protects you up to and including the day before your holiday commences against loss of monies already paid (excluding premium and deposit) due to redundancy, jury service, accident, injury, illness or death of any member of your party or close relation. (Supporting evidence - e.g. doctor's certificate, redundancy notice - is required)

- The booking is accepted on the strict understanding that persons under 18 years of age are not permitted to drink or buy alcoholic beverages in the on-site bars or in the holiday shop. Persons so found doing will immediately be expelled from the park together with all persons occupying the same pitch. Young people must bring some form of identification to prove they are over 18 years of age if they wish to drink alcohol in the bars or purchase alcohol from the holiday shop.

- Children remain the responsibility of their parents or guardians at all times.

We reserve the right:
- To refuse admission to the park and all facilities and in such circumstances the contract is discharged.
- To remove any person (and property) who, in our opinion, is not suitable to use the park, or whose behaviour we consider to be detrimental to the interests of our other guests.
- To alter, postpone or cancel any facility for reasons beyond our control - we can only guarantee to do our best to see that all facilities are available as advertised.
- The park and all facilities are used entirely at the guests' own risk. We will not accept liability in respect of any person or property. This includes the laundry facilities and battery charger.
- We no longer permit the use of plastic groundsheets or carpets in awnings.
- Single-sex groups are not accommodated.
- We do not accept commercial vehicles, migrant workers, travellers or any type of converted transport vehicle; and we may refuse entry to particularly large caravans we deem to be unsuitable.
- Whilst we accept a booking on payment of a deposit, the balance of fees due on any stay are payable at least 28 days prior to arrival. Should any balance of fees owing not be received when they are due, we reserve the right to cancel the holiday, discharge the contract and re-let the pitch at our discretion.
- Dogs accepted on condition that: they are never left on site unattended, they are on a lead at all times, they are exercised in the signed "exercise areas". Any fouling is to be collected and disposed of.
- We cannot guarantee pet free fields, although we endeavour to keep one field free of dogs.
- We do not accept Go-peds (motorised skateboards) on site.
- We do not allow the use of any type of gun on site, e.g. B.B. guns.
- Whilst we accept the use of bicycles and skateboards on site, they must be used with due care and consideration for others.

Because of our policy of resting pitches at certain times of the season to keep them in good order, some favoured pitches may not be available in low and mid season.

When requests for specific pitches are received we will endeavour to accommodate them but must emphasise that this is not always possible, particularly when the bookings are for part weeks. Specific pitches cannot be guaranteed and we reserve the right to allocate pitches at our discretion. We may on occasions move a booking previously allocated to a particular pitch, in order to make the best use of our pitches - this may occur even when a specific pitch request has been received.

Pitches are available from 12pm on the day of arrival and must be vacated by 10am on the day of departure. All late arrivals at the site (any time after reception has closed) must park in the provided area for the night and check in at reception in the morning.
