  • Small family-run site near Welcombe, on the Devon/Cornwall border
  • Easily accessible from the A39 Atlantic Highway and next to a bus stop
  • Two miles from beaches and the South West Coast Path
Welcome to… Welcombe X. And get prepped to stay here for quite some time: have a quick gander of the pics to see just why. Welcombe X is a small site near the village of Welcombe, on the border of Devon and Cornwall between Bideford and Bude, and two miles from the coast. It's a friendly and laidback place, lauded by grateful guests as 'perfect', 'lovely', 'fabulous' and 'very friendly and extremely helpful' among many more accolades… obviously you'll have to go and investigate for yourself… And as for what do to along the coast? You could stretch your legs on the South West Coast Path or take to the waves in the surfing mecca of Bude… or trot up the cobbled streets at the old fishing village of Clovelly… or decide firmly to do nowt more than bask on as many splendid beaches as is humanly poss. A bus stop is outside the site if you've decided firmly not to do any driving while here. The site has a peaceful rural atmosphere but is well connected, with direct access from the A39 Atlantic Highway. It's a five-minute walk to the village shop if you need to pick up groceries.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Small quiet site, perfect for short stays. simple clean toilet and showers. super friendly host with plenty of ideas to explore around the area.

Disliked: Not a dislike as such but the site runs along a main road so I feel people staying in tents could find it noisy. Was fine in the camper though.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: A really friendly campsite. It was a basic little site, but the facilities were all in good condition, clean and the site was quiet at night. The owners were so friendly, welcoming and helpful. The site itself is not exciting to look at, but it was in a great location to access all the lovely beaches and the beautiful countryside nearby. We loved that we could get around to so many amazing places. Nearest town was only 5 minutes drive for shops, pubs and food.

Disliked: It is next to the main road but we didn’t really notice it to be fair.

Liked: The hosts were incredibly warm and helpful and even gave us a spare our tent as ours was mouse-eaten!! They had a bar which was great fun and could not have been friendlier. The location was just 3 miles from the most stunning beach and coast in Devon.

Local attractions

It's a mere two miles or five minute' drive from here to the nearest stretch of sand, the sandy, secluded and mighty peaceful beach at Welcombe Mouth. The same distance will land you at the South West Coast Path for spectacularly scenic hikes around the entire Devon coast (and those of Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset, should you be so inclined). Take the path north to Clovelly or south to Bude, alongside your substantial picnic, and leave time afterwards for a potter around either town. Kids' attractions and activities are all around, such as the The Milky Way adventure park 10 minutes' drive away at Bideford and famed and fab The Big Sheep amusement park is within 20 minutes' drive. Do also mosey along to the Gnome Reserve and Wild Flower Garden (15 minutes), set up as a 'pastoral refuge for garden gnomes'. Splendid.
