  • Luxury glamping site in east Devon, 10 minutes from the Jurassic Coast
  • Laid-back, family-friendly site with firepits
  • Less than two miles from the market town of Axminster
A trip to the Jurassic Coast doesn’t have to feel like you’ve turned time back a few millennia – at the family-friendly Jurassic Glamping, a luxury campsite on an east Devon smallholding less than two miles from the town of Axminster, you’re very much remaining in the modern world. There’s loads to do in this part of Devon, with the Jurassic Coast 10 minutes away and plenty of walks, museums, gardens and scenic seaside villages within easy reach. You should start with the market town of Axminster though, a 30-minute walk from Jurassic Glamping – visit the Loughwood Meeting House and Axminster Museum, explore the market or be a keeper for a day at Axe Valley Wildlife Park. Back on site, relax on your veranda in the evening and take in the views over the Axe valley, then cook up a storm over the firepit or in your own kitchen. There are shops in Axminster where you can pick up supplies for the barbecue – if you’d prefer a night off, head to one of the town’s restaurants. Don’t worry about having to keep track of how much you’re drinking either: you won’t need to make a middle-of-the-night dash through the darkness to use the facilities – each tent has an internal shower and toilet, so you won’t be bumping into any strangers in their pyjamas.

Local attractions

Head to Lyme Regis, a seaside town 15 minutes’ drive from Jurassic Glamping, where you can go back in time at the museum, dive under the sea at the aquarium and explore some of the spectacular beaches of the Jurassic Coast. Mary Anning, fossil hunter extraordinaire of the 19th century, used to call Lyme Regis home – you can now visit Dinosaurland Fossil Museum to see a collection of the fossils that gave this part of Devon its name. The village of Beer is 10 miles along the coast and is well worth a visit. It’s not named for the beverage so don’t expect beer tents on every corner, but there’s still plenty to do in the scenic fishing village: take the kids to Pecorama and its miniature railway, go below ground for a tour of the Beer Quarry Caves, explore the East Devon Area of Natural Beauty or simply relax at the beach. Speaking of beer, grownups might like to try a pub crawl with a difference: you can join the South West Coast Path where it passes through Lyme Regis, stopping in at the seaside pubs that dot its length – the path is suitable for all ages so, with kids in tow, you might want to trade in the round of pints for a few soft drinks.
