With a resident otter, owls, badgers, buzzards, woodpeckers and deer, Cosawes Park must rank as one of the prettiest spots in Cornwall, tucked into an idyllic valley between Truro and Falmouth, near the village of Perranarworthal.

Owned by the same family for several generations, it’s perfect for holidaymakers looking for a site with top-notch facilities but no unnecessary bells and whistles; there’s no noisy clubhouse or children’s playground, just oodles and oodles of drop dead gorgeous Cornish countryside to explore.

Cosawes Park offers a mix of well-maintained grass pitches (with electric hook-ups nearby) and serviced hardstandings, including several that are spacious enough to take very large motorhomes, RVs and fifth wheel trailers. The site can also accommodate motorcyclists (but no hens or stags, please - peace rules here).

The immaculate ablutions block, which has just won Loo of the Year, has toasty underfloor heating, plus separate disabled and family bathrooms. There’s a farm stall selling high quality local produce a five-minute walk away and several good foodie pubs nearby. The site also offers super-fast wifi.

Nearby attractions and activities

The South West is stuffed with things to do - too many to list - and Cosawes Park is convenient for all the top attractions.

Many guests give into the temptations of the award-winning Eden Project, whose utopian greenhouse biomes transport visitors to tropical rainforests, mediterranean olive groves and other exotic locations; other patches of paradise can be found at the various National Trust gardens nearby.

Slither down to the atmospheric Lizard peninsula for stunning coastal scenery and gorgeous little fishing villages. Head a little further and you can tick Land’s End off your list too; you’ll find a handful of decent attractions, shops and eateries clustered on the headland.

Otherwise, there are family theme parks aplenty; both Flambards and the Crealy Great Adventure Park come highly recommended. Little ones will also love DairyLand Farm World, where they can make lots of furry friends, get to grips with the mini tractors and romp around the soft play zones, or Paradise Park wildlife sanctuary, which also has a great “jungle barn” indoor play centre.

Henry VIII had impeccable taste in picking out locations for his fortresses, and Pendennis Castle in Falmouth is no exception. It has fab views, impressive interactive exhibitions and a good tearoom, natch. Nearby, on the harbour front, is the Maritime Museum, where you can find out all about the sea-faring heritage of Cornwall.

Finally, the area surrounding Cosawes Park is naturally blessed when it comes to outdoor pursuits: this section of coast offers excellent sailing, and there is good walking and cycling in all directions. Try Bissoe Cycle for a good range of bikes and trailers for hire, and trails that run along converted tramroads and railway lines.

Idyllic camping - tranquil, beautiful, perfect!

Liked: The campsite itself was maintained extremely well - toilets and separate shower block were spotless. Welcoming and helpful site manager - let us choose our pitch. Other camp users polite and friendly. Beautiful setting - ideal location as feels rural but yet not far from Falmouth. A perfect camp site for anyone wanting a site without the clubhouse/playground/cafe type facilities.

Disliked: The only disadvantage I could see was that if the camp was at full capacity, then for us it would have felt not so idyllic as we like to have as much privacy as is possible on a campsite. The tent pitches we were on would have been too close in proximity to each other we felt.

Liked: We've just returned from a fortnight's break at Cosawes and we really can't rate it highly enough.
We arrived on a Sunday to find that the warden had moved us to a bigger pitch ( as a large group had cancelled). We have a large Cabanon Aruba frame tent with bedroom annexe and this fitted perfectly. We were on pitch 52 which gets bathed in sunshine in the morning and is then in ...

Disliked: Very little !!!
