'Green' camping on partly cleared moorland (heather regeneration project) in south-west Cornwall, overlooking the sea, near the small town of St Just and Sennen beach. This is 'Wild West Penwith' so be prepared for all sorts of weather, wildlife and birds, and compost toilets! It's near a very minor road that 'wiggles' from farm to farm for about three miles between St Just and Sennen.
We aim to keep our prices on the cheap side. There is a large dry barn as a communal space where you can socialise, read, or make music or a cup of tea on a wet day. The low level climbing frame, the trampolines or a game of football will keep the kids amused in the evening, while you relax and watch the sun set over the western ocean.
Water is provided by a modern hand pump from a deep borehole - it's clean and very cold. We pass it through ceramic filtration to provide some drinking water on site, and we have an (unheated) shower set up in a 'tipi' made of shower curtains. There is a screened wash area and a sink. We also have a communal fire pit and (if you stick some firewood under the tank!) a hot tub. The newer of the two compost toilets has 'luxuries' like a door, a roof and a seat!
Nearby attractions and activities
Sennen and Gwenver beach are great for surfing. The area is wonderful for walking (especially amongst the wildflowers in the spring) and cycling. Lands End, Penzance, the Tate Gallery at St Ives and other attractions are near enough for a rainy day.
We are surrounded at three miles distance by sea in three compass directions, with many wild coves and secret places to explore. There are rock pools to swim in, bays to snorkel with the seals or fish, the coastal footpath (and its links), artists' studios, cafes, ancient sites, stone circles and monuments, and of course the local celebrations in St Just (Lafrowda) and Penzance (Maisey Day). Folk clubs, real ale and good honest ethical food, fresh fish, trips to the Scilly Isles, surf schools, kayaking, horse-riding and birdwatching are also within reach.

Liked: Beautuful location and views; barn great if cold/rainy and meant kids had a table to eat around; trampolines and things for kids to play on, very friendly and easy going. Great starry skies and fires in the evening. Feels like effort has been put into making a nice, natural, relaxing space. Disliked: Nothing! Not the place if you require a hot shower every day, but there is a hot tub if you make the fire! |

A back to basics site in a beautiful spot with lots of charm Kerry S. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: The children loved playing in the barn. I loved the views and sunsets. Disliked: Can be windy! And the lack of facilities would probably stop me from staying more than a few nights. |

An adventure gtd. Jenny B. (Family with older children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Friendly, quiet, remote, fab views. Nick was most helpful in advice. It is WILD camping and that is what we wanted - boy scout adventure with a ten and fifteen year old. We made the most of the fire pit, the trampoline, the musical chimes, the barn for warmth and a lovely ambiance (not to mention when the weather got tough and our leaky tent could not offer shelter the barn was our refuge at 2am ... Disliked: The weather one evening; but the barn was our refuge. |

Great value basic but good fun, it's what you make of it. Lisa S. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Had a 3 night stay and had a great time, the site is very basic but that's what you pay for. Disliked: The weather but hey you can't buy that!!! |

Liked: Most of all, I liked the price. The field was basic but with running water, a gas stove, a toilet and a make-shift shower it was more than worth the £5 it cost for the night. Disliked: Nothing |

Back to nature - a very friendly campsite chrisholty (Family with young children, 1 review, 2 photos)
Liked: Being so Green - compost toilet, hand-pumping water. Disliked: I really like this sort of camping, but it's not for everyone. No hot showers, laundry etc... You need to enjoy living a simple life close to nature while you're there. |
