Electric grass pitch (large)

Liked: Location

Disliked: Well where do I start, not that we were but if you are expecting to find the facilities as advertised like shop, coffee shop, games room etc nothing is available, its all run down, derelict and has been closed for sometime. Grass Pitches not cut, tall wet Grass. Main toilet block closed leaving small block with one shower and toilet for gents and two toilets and showers for ladies but not clean and had to provide your own toilet paper, notices on walls and doors to keep facilities clean or they would be shut. No mop or cleaning materials provided even if you were inclined to do the cleaning for the owner. Bins around site overflowing with fly infested dog bags and there was a fly infested dead rat in the road outside reception that was also closed. The washing up area, grey waste and chemical disposal were disgusting. The site appears to be busy but they look like seasonal or residential pitches, that's all that seems to be catered for here. This was one of the most expensive sites in the area and its a disgrace. I wish I had read the reviews before I booked as many like this but luckily we were only staying for 2 nights, any longer and we would have left early.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Bus from outside camp site straight into St Ives

Disliked: The worst campsite I have ever been to, no one on reception we had to ring the owner and wait for him to come down to check us in, we also booked the site as a shop and pub were shown on the pictures however we were told that this had not been open for a few year on arrival which was a disappointment as there was nothing about. We were then given a pitch however no one else really arrived during our stay so we could of been given a better pitch or chosen our own. Showers were cold and facilities were dirty, few times had no toilet roll. Also had to pay 50p to use the hair dyer, which was not a problem however to use my own hairdryer and straighteners I had to pay to. Very pricey for a very bad run down camp site very disappointed

Electric grass pitch (large)

Liked: Very disappointing site !

Disliked: Unfortunately we only stayed on the site for 1 night out of five ! Should have read the reviews as a few people felt the same . Toilets and showers dirty and many of them out of order . Washing machine and driers broken . Luke warm water in the washing up area . The site advertises a coffee shop which was no more than a run down shed with a coffee machine !! Which didn’t work ! Also offers a shop which didn’t look it had been used for years .

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Nice peaceful location, far enough from St Ives to not caught up in traffic to and from it. Large pitches so plenty of space to spread out, set up awning etc

Disliked: Everything on site was closed, which I hadn't known, as it was getting the end of the season for this site (mid September). This had a slightly negative impact as there were no staff to ask questions, and they were unresponsive to calls and emails. The welcome email for my visit, with all the instructions I needed, arrived two days after check in.

Local attractions

The art galleries, craft galleries and inns and restaurants of St Ives are all easy to get to from the site, as it's only five minutes' drive from the town centre. Parking can be a bit tricky in town in high season, so save stress – and cash – by taking the bus, running five times a day from right outside the site. St Ives's beaches are among the many highly scenic swathes of sand around Higher Penderleath Caravan and Camping Park and the Land's End part of Cornwall, almost all with easy access to spectacular walks along the South West Coast Path where short stretches or longer hikes in either direction are easy to find. Penzance five miles from base is a 20-minute walk from Cornish landmark St Michael's Mount, the tiny tidal island linked to the town of Marazion by causeway. Further along at 16 miles is Land's End, via Porthcurno and the smashing cliffside Minack Theatre.
