General

  • Cornish estate set around a 17th-century mansion
  • Heated pool, library, writing room and regular events
  • A 36-acre woodland and garden setting, with spotless amenities

Verily, you’ll very much like Trewan Hall Camping Site between Padstow and Newquay in mid-Cornwall.

This lovely little place has been developed on an old Cornish estate around the 17th-century mansion of Trewan Hall, and carefully maintained with traditional building techniques to blend in with its 36-acre woodland and garden surroundings. And speaking of gardens, they’re lush – have a look at the site pics...

The Hill family has added all sorts of little touches to make this a top family site, like entertainment varying from local rock/brass bands to shows in the Long Barn in the summer holidays, all professional and free of charge, and the 25-metre covered heated pool, also available in high season.

Available at all times are a large field for ball games in front of the Hall, barns for table tennis, a barn with pool table set aside for teenagers and adults, and a library and writing room. A fully-stocked shop is open nearly 14 hours a day in high season (and shorter hours in low season).

There are two different areas to pick a pitch from: one aimed at families near the play park, shop and barns, and the other more secluded in a bigger field – in both, you can pitch up where you like to have plenty of room, with the owners managing bookings so that there are always more pitches than people and what’s on offer never feels overcrowded.

Trewan Hall also has a woodland playground.

The indoor swimming pool is open between 30/06 and 01/09.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

All: access to the swimming pool is not included in the rate and is charged £0.70 per person per session.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 30/06 and 01/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

The maximum touring unit length allowed, including drawbar, is 8m (26'3").

The pool is an outdoor pool covered by a large plastic dome, making it an indoor pool when needed.

The dome can only be taken down when there's been a consistent period of good weather. Conversely, it can only be put up when a long period of poor weather is forecast. The site therefore cannot guarantee if the pool will be covered or uncovered during your stay.

Beautiful campsite and lots of potential activities. Shop well stocked.

    Disliked:

Nothing disliked, but there were unexpected costs that I didn’t realise - the pool was 70p per person per swim, we had to buy table tennis bats and balls, ice packe refreezing had a charge over weight and the boys were disappointed the billiards/snooker table only for adults.

Beautiful grounds. Felt like we were camping in the garden only a national trust house! Very friendly helpful staff, clean and good sized swimming pool, well stocked shop with sensibly priced items, great evening entertainment. The showers were fantastic and no push buttons to keep them on!

    Disliked:

Very hard to say because it was all fantastic. The only thing we did say would be nice would be a few more taps around the site and possibly some drainage pots to pour away your boiled water from your pasta!

Perfect location within easy reach of North or South Cornwall, excellent facilities and good evening entertainment. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Perfect place to stay with older teens who can appreciate the grounds and historical location, at night the starts are extremely visible from the bigger pitching site and has a wonderful relaxing atmosphere. My wife and I have already agreed to return next year.

Excellent camp site - lovely grounds, excellent swimming pool, kid's play areas, evening entertainment and plenty to do. Helpful and friendly staff. Visiting food vans. My grandson said it was the best camp site that he's been to - and he's been to quite a few!

    Definitely go again.

It's a pretty campsite with a lovely green field just for the kids to play so they don't have to play their ball games by the tent. A nice park for the younger ones and a heated pool they preferred to the cold sea. My kids would go back just for the pool. The facilities were clean with nice showers. The entertainment was really good. There is a food van in the evening but I never used it. My favourite thing about this camp site is come 10/11pm it's quiet. Everyone was friendly and the shop has everything you might forget.
Nearly forgot the library. Very cute with books, board games and wifi.

Local attractions

Trewan Hall is near the centre of Cornwall with easy access to the north coast beaches and within easy driving distance of most of Cornwall’s attractions. For a short stroll, head into the old market town of St Columb Major a mile away, where there’s a 15th-century church, surf store, antique shop and fish and chip shops galore.

Sand fans will be in heaven in this part of Cornwall: the closest beach to Trewan Hall is Mawgan Porth four miles away; gorgeous Watergate Bay is 10 minutes’ drive away, or head to the Seven Bays clustered around the village of St Merryn, a few miles from Padstow and within 15 to 20 minutes’ drive of the site.

Two top Cornwall spots within 10 miles are Newquay, where you should wriggle into your wetsuit for some of the best surfing in the country (surf schools are all over town and nearby for the uninitiated), and Padstow for the Camel Trail and Camel Estuary Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Zipwires, biodomes and more can be had at the Eden Project 15 miles away.
