We do like those parks which have been run by the same family for generations and welcoming campers/caravanners for decades…Mainly because, like at Pensagillas Park at Cornwall’s St Austell, park pride prevails to provide a pristine place for those pitching up.
Pensagillas has been run by the Kent family for six generations and has had campers and caravanners staying here since 1970; it’s all looked after and laid out to be tidy and attractive, with trees, hedging, shrubs and a tarmac roadway connecting with grass meadows. The tent, tourer and motorhome pitches are in a five-acre field at the end of a private drive, with Cornish countryside views to hand anywhere you pitch up.
Once you’ve sorted your berth, have a stroll around the park meadows and woodlands, give an enthusiastic greeting to the farm animals or explore the farmland at the other end of the private drive beside the camping field: there are footpaths leading from here as well as fields to wander. And bring your rod: there’s an old mill with stream on site for contemplative casting off (and/or picnics), and a two and a half acre coarse fishing lake on site to land roach, tench, golden rudd and carp of up to 28lb.
Pitches at Pensagillas Park come with a choice of electric hookup and there’s fresh water close by; the well-maintained shower block comes with covered outside areas for washing up and a laundry room with washers and dryers. Wifi is available on site.
During high season, there’s a takeaway and a cosy bar serving beer and cider, with more tipples and food available in the local village a couple of miles away.
