- Quiet site in central Cornwall, 15 minutes' drive from the coast
- Within a half-hour drive of Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan
- A 5-minute drive from the Clay Trail's walking and cycle paths
Tropical rainforest biosphere experiences? In south-west England? Why not? The fab site of Canna Farm in Cornwall is a 15-minute drive from the world-class attraction of the Eden Project.
Despite the proximity to such big-name wonders, this is a delectably quiet rural site, a five-minute drive from the village of Bugle and 20 minutes' drive from the coast. The village has a shop, pub, takeaway and fish and chip shop, and there are couple of other country pubs within a few miles.
If you'd like to leave the car at home, it's easy to travel around by public transport as there's a railway station in Bugle.
It's also one of the starting-points of the Clay Trails, a network of short and well-signed walking, cycling and horse riding routes through central Cornwall's China Clay Country, leading visitors through sweeping countryside and mining history.
Back at Canna Farm you can spend the evenings gathered with friends and family (and canine companions) around the communal firepit: grill up a feast over the flames (or on barbecues, both are permitted) as you plan the next day's rambles.
There are hot showers in the washrooms and eco-friendly composting toilets.

Thanks John for your insightful and constructive review. If all else fails, I don’t quite know how you can rate us a 2 for location. Many give it a 10/10 as it’s within walking distance of the Eden Project, 5 minutes from the A30, 15 minutes from the sea, 20 minutes from sandy beaches - pretty much anything you can think of in Cornwall is accessible from here. We’ve had people staying on here that were initially going further afield, but liked it so much they used it as a base camp and travelled all over and returned each night.
From the manager...
Hi Matt, sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay. We provide a location with beautiful views, easy access to much of Cornwall where there are many things to see and do. Our campsite it safe with plenty of space for kids to roam around, build dens, toast marshmallows or do whatever they like. However, you do have to bring your own activities other that as this isn’t Butlins.
From the manager...
I would have thought the majority of campsites are in fact fields. I’m not quite sure what you were expecting there! Our fields (there are two) do boast beautiful views from whatever position you decide to pitch. We offer as facilities, the basics, no where in our literature does it say anything else. We have a composting loo, a spacious hot shower, fresh spring water brought up every day for drinking or washing up, and the provision of fire pits that you are able to use for free.
From the manager...
Sorry for the lack of water. Generally 50 - 75 litres is brought up every day. We are a small campsite, with limited pitches, so that amount of water generally suffices each day. We aren’t on mains water, that is pure Canna Spring water, so it does have to be treated sympathetically. We can’t just drain it. Water is a valuable resource and if everybody thinks of others and don’t waste it, It should be ample. But I apologise for running out at that moment in time. You are welcome to ring down and mention the fact tho. Again, if we don’t know there is a problem, we can’t fix it.

With the biodomes so close, and an array of slightly stomach-churning jumping, swinging, falling and zipwiring activities on offer at Eden's Hangloose activity centre, you could easily pace yourself and visit more than once.
Canna Farm is equally well placed for another major attraction: it's half an hour to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, which are a touching tribute to human endeavours as well as a horticultural wonder in their own right.
For watersports and more sedate seaside activities, it's a quarter of an hour to Carlyon Bay and St Austell and half an hour to the popular coastal spots of Par Sands and Pentewan Beach. For a different perspective on the sea, make for Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre (20 minutes) to see a variety of strange stuff salvaged from the waves.
If it's clifftop hikes and trots along the dunes you're into, you can link up with the South West Coast Path at Charlestown, or pick it up at Par Sands and walk the wilder spaces of the Polperro Heritage Coast, finishing off with a swim at Readymoney Cove (half an hour by car).
Depending on age and tastes, there's plenty of indoor entertainment on offer as well from tours and tastings at the St Austell Brewery (15 minutes) to the feathered delights of Screech Owl Sanctuary, twenty minutes away.
