  • Off-grid eco site in Cornwall, 15 minutes' drive from the coast
  • On the edge of Luxulyan Valley, 10 mins' drive from the Eden Project
  • A 10-minute walk from the Clay Trails walking and cycle paths
Now this one's worth making some noise about… A five-minute drive from the Cornish village of Bugle, Canna Farm is a haven of peace and solitude, close to surf beaches, the famed rainforest biospheres of the Eden Project and tours and tastings at the St Austell Brewery… what more does anyone need? Perhaps a simple eco-friendly base to see it all from? One with bags of space, hedgerows, stone walls and long grass giving a sense of privacy are what you'll get at Canna Farm, along with individual and communal firepits. Have a chat with the folk on site to order in fab local produce plus all the kit you need to get a barbecue on the go. The farm is in a canny location for getting out and about around Cornwall too: it's a 10-minute stroll from here to join the Clay Trails, a network of routes linking mid-Cornwall’s mining heritage with top rural scenery and wildlife, and just on the edge of the rather gorgeous Luxulyan Valley (appointed as a World Heritage Site for its mix of scenery and industrial heritage). It's also five minutes to the A30, giving easy access across the county from Bodmin Moor to Land’s End, and, if using public transport, about the same to catch buses and trains from Bugle. Bugle's also the place for more eats, drinks and practicalities: there’s a symphony of useful stuff here including a shop, a pub with food, a fish and chip shop and a Chinese takeaway.

Foxes Den bell tent

Liked: The place is in a great setting . Peaceful and Clean and well kept. I really enjoyed the serene landscape and the simple life at the farm. Nikki was so helpful with useful tips and hints to explore the area in and around st austell and Charlestown and further what to see in Lands end and St Ives. Really enjoyed cycling and walking. As a novice camper , the bell tent was a great base , u just bring ur cooking equipment and towels and it takes the hassle out of setting a tent if u are not ready for that. All in all loved the stay and will come back for sure.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: This is the nicest campsite I've stayed at in a long time. A real campsite too - peaceful, big pitches, eco facilities with as little disruption to the surroundings as possible and a little farm shop on site. Nicki is also lovely and has clearly put a lot of work into making the site as great as it is!

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Everything, the location was a perfect spot for exploring Cornwall. The site was well equipped with everything we needed. The toilets and showers were clean. The playground was just the right size. Nicki was the most welcoming host, providing us with space to relax, wood for the firepit and a few essentials from her little shop.

Disliked: Nothing at all.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Wonderful little campsite. Friendly and helpful owner. Despite the fact that it rained and blew a gale almost every night of my stay, the pitch drained well and did not get muddy. The shower was warm, the composting toilets were always clean, the spring water tasted great. If you want a nice relaxing get away I would definitely recommend this camp site!

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: The location was good be fairly central Cornwall, the pitches were nice and there wasn't too many guests, its a more intimate campsite. Finally the shop and the host were super helpful, refreezing my ice packs and havig use of their homemade firepits.

Disliked: Shower was great, but there is only one and people did all seem to congrugate around its use at the same point in the day.

Local attractions

Pace yourself and visit the Eden Project more than once for more than one type of adventure: as well as the biodomes to see, there's jumping, swinging, falling and zipwiring all on offer at Eden's Hangloose Adventure. Canna Farm's equally well placed for another major attraction: it's half an hour to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, which are a touching tribute to human endeavours as well as a fab horticultural feature to wander around for hours. For watersports and more sedate seaside activities, it's a 15-minute drive to Carlyon Bay and St Austell and half an hour to the popular coastal spots of Par Sands and Pentewan beach. For a different perspective on the sea, make for Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre (20 minutes) to see a variety of strange stuff salvaged from the waves. If it's clifftop hikes and trots along the dunes you're into, link up with the South West Coast Path at Charlestown, or pick it up at Par Sands and walk the wilder spaces of the Polperro Heritage Coast, finishing off with a swim at Readymoney Cove (half an hour by car). Depending on age and tastes, there's plenty of indoor entertainment on offer as well, from tours and tastings at St Austell Brewery (15 minutes), to meeting the feathered inhabitants of the Screech Owl Sanctuary 20 minutes away near St Columb Major.
