It’s bottoms up at the tranquil Golden Lion Inn Lakeside Camping on the shores of Stithians Lake, where you can enjoy a tipple and some top-notch pub grub at the inn just a flower bed away, either in the oak-beamed bar in front of one of the three log fires, or al fresco overlooking the award-winning gardens. And there’s no need to worry about not catching your zzzzzzz’s after an evening out – the pub is food and family-oriented so there’s no concern about shenanigans after closing time.
There’s a choice of electric and non-electric spots on the all-level pitches for your tent, tourer or motorhome, and the site also has internet access as well as fishing and (non-motorised) watersports available. It’s within easy reach of local towns Redruth, Falmouth, Helston and Truro, and is less than an hour’s drive from the award-winning Eden Project.
Nearby attractions and activities
If you can drag yourself away from the Golden Lion Inn, you’ll find loads of active options nearby. This area is said to be among the windiest in Cornwall, so grab your wetsuit and go to the Stithian Lakes Watersports Centre, just 100 yards away from the park and with sailing and canoeing as well as windsurfing hire and tuition. There’s also a climbing wall, trim trail, children’s play area, Wow balls and fishing available, or you can take a lakeside walk or a picnic if the day’s a bit too still for surfing.
Relax on the beach or catch the waves there instead – north and south coast beaches are a 15 minute drive away. Hire a bike at the site and check out the local cycle trails or go mountain biking, or at a canter with the horse-riding available nearby. Golf, tennis and the attractions Poldark Mine and Flambards Theme Park are also within easy reach.
Stithians Showground is just five minutes away and has regular events throughout the year, from the Stithian Show in July to the West of England Steam Engine Society with Steam Rally, the VW Owners Club and the YFC Country Fair in August, as well as events organised by local groups including horse shows and dog agility clubs.

Liked: Peaceful! The lake made it all very serene yet it offered countless activities for the whole family. There was a lovely playground round the corner and the pitches were a good size and nicely sheltered. The food in the bar was excellent and the welcome wonderful. A lovely family atmosphere. The site is close to so many attractions and activities so it's really convenient. We loved it so much we have already booked for ... Disliked: Nothing! |

Liked: It's a picturesque, small camp site close to a lake. You do feel like you're in the countryside, unlike some of the larger sites. Disliked: Pitch 1 is tiny! Luckily we were able to move after the 1st night but we do not feel it should be counted as a 'proper' pitch. With our 4 man tent we were nearly on the path and had hardly any space around the tent for stove/chairs, etc. Perhaps it should be kept aside as a spare in case anyone turns up with no booking (and a small tent!). I know somebody else ... |

Liked: The privacy each plot allowed everyone there. It was central for all attractions in south Cornwall, everything within an hours drive. Nice clean showers and toilets, which we found to be very spacious at no extra cost. Very friendly and helpful staff at the Golden Lion. Disliked: Only thing we disliked was it is in the middle of no-where, therefore with out a car there's not a lot to do of an evening. |
