General

  • Spacious site in Sennen, with sea views from the pitches
  • 15 minutes' walk from Sennen Cove and a 5-minute drive from Land's End
  • Pubs and a seaside fish and chip shop within 15 minutes' walk

And now, the end is near… about five minutes down the road, in fact. Yes, it’s almost the end of the road here at Mayon Camping in Sennen, about a mile and a half from Land’s End. The road in question is the A30, the main road that runs from Exeter across the whole of Cornwall and will handily deposit you at the very gates of the site.

It’s a fair bet to imagine that guests visiting this area are in search of the sea, and the site happily obliges with some smashing views out over the big blue from its grass pitches. There’s heaps of space in the fields so you should have no problem finding a suitable spot to plonk yourself down, light up a barbie and spend the evening munching on bangers while watching the sun disappear into the sea.

Food supplies can be acquired with minimal fuss from the small supermarket next door, but if you’d prefer to have your eats prepared you can take a 10-minute trot to the village pub or wander down to Sennen Cove, 15 minutes away, for a seaside pub; both serve up top-notch local food and ales. Also down at the cove are a great little fish ’n’ chip place and an award-winning beachside restaurant.

Should you wish to leave the car behind for your days out, you can hop on the bus from the stop that’s just outside the gates – local services pass by along with open-top buses that can transport you to Penzance and St Ives in style on a sunny day.

Back at the site, facilities are kept low-key to maintain the chilled coastal atmos, but toilets and showers have been provided in a portacabin a short walk from the pitches.

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Fantastic view over the sea. Easy walk down to the beach - and other walks too. New toilets & showers - very clean and well kept. Good clear signs. Plenty of room. Pitch where you like. Shop and chippie nearby. Buses to the entrance. Very friendly hosts who took the trouble to check everything was OK.

No noisy club house or pool. Plain, simple and excellent.

New site opened this year. Hope it thrives as we want to go back!

probably the cleanest toilet and shower block you've ever been in. Owner very nice and helpful. Took on feedback and about minor things.

    Disliked:

The only issue we had, and it's really minor, is that when we arrived there was no one around and there is no office building as such, it's a camper van, which is kind of disguised on a camp site. When we notice it had a letter explaining to just set up and someone would be around each day morning and evening.

The campsite was within 10-15 min walking distance from the beach. Nicely kept toilets/showers. Whenever I went to the washroom the owner was there cleaning, tidying up...we stay during the busy bank holiday weekend. We were greeted by the owners when we started to pitch up the tent; we received a very warm welcome and were given some useful information.
The fish and chip shop, the convenience store and the pub were all within walking distance. There was a bus stop right in front of the campsite. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay for a few days.

    Disliked:

Nothing to do with the campsite: some people should learn to tidy up after themselves in the washrooms.

Absolutely loved it. What a gem. Found it by luck. Last minute search as we left from London to Cornwall at 3 in the morning. We stayed 10 nights. Quiet and well run by lovely couple. We pitched away from the showers and loo. Beautiful panoramic views of countryside and the sea. No noise. We over slept every day as it was so quiet. Loos clean and showers hot. Only time it got busy was on the bank holiday, but we expected that and even then it was absolutely fine. The couple who ran it were on site, so any noise it was dealt with quickly. Perfect location for some of the lovely beaches nearby. Porthgwarra ( with resident seal ) Porthchapel, Porthcurno all a short drive away and not forgetting Sennen Cove a 15 minute walk. Fantastic for surfing and body boarding. The shop next door, stocked pretty much everything you need and they even stored our freezer blocks for us. Didn't like the pub up the road but some people loved it. We liked the one on the beach at Sennen cove, a little further to walk but worth it. Busy but well run and you can walk off your meal up the hill. There's a surf shack on Sennen beach too, which on a hot evening is perfect for a cold beer and pizza with fantastic views. I put 5 stars for wifi. There isn't wifi but theres is 3/4 G . This year was their first season. Ive know doubt it will be busier next year. We wish the couple all the best and hope its a great success.

What a peachy campsite in a perfect, hard-to-beat location where you can walk down to Sennen Beach, the pub, cafes, handy well-stocked shop, excellent fish and chips and just watch the sun-set over a bbq. The campsite is spacious and friendly. We had an amazing trip over the August bank holiday and never felt crowded - just chilled and relaxed. Very helpful and accommodating owners. Super hot showers and clean, well managed toilet block. WE WILL BE BACK. Missing it already.

Local attractions

You can’t possibly come this far and not make it to Land’s End, a mile and a half down the road – it’ll take you five minutes to drive down there or half an hour to walk it. Once you’re there you can wander on the paths for views out towards the Scilly Isles, visit the First and Last House and pop in to the RSPB Discovery Centre for expert wildlife-spotting tips: not only birds but also dolphins and porpoises can be seen from here.

Also down at Land’s End are a bunch of kid-friendly attractions: meet the animals and watch crafts in action at Greeb Farm, step into the animated world of the Shaun the Sheep Experience and seek out the dragon’s lair at the interactive Arthur’s Quest. In summer, look out for the fireworks that are launched down here a couple of times a week.

For beach times, you can walk to Sennen Cove in 15 minutes on a quiet footpath. There’s a great big sweep of sand down here and some great surfing to be had, too. If you need some tips or a bit of a technique boost, sign up for lessons at one of the surf schools. Wander a little bit away from the beach and you can join the South West Coast Path for to find further little beaches and coves, including dog-friendly Gwynver beach.

Elsewhere along the coast, you can visit St Michael’s Mount, 25 minutes away, to see the medieval church and castle on a rocky island; walk over at low tide or hop on a boat if the waters have risen. Down in Porthcurno, 15 minutes or so from the site, head to the open-air Minack Theatre, built into the very cliff face with jaw-dropping sea views. Shows take place during the summer season only but you may well stumble upon a rehearsal if you visit at other times.

A 20-minute drive north from the site takes you to the Geevor Tin Mine, where you can don a hard hat and head underground to learn a bit about Cornwall’s mining heritage. While you’re there you can also pan for gems, wander around the abandoned buildings and get hands-on at the interactive museum.
