General

  • Spacious site in Sennen, with sea views from most pitches
  • 15 minutes' walk from Sennen Cove and a 5-minute drive from Land's End
  • Pubs and a seaside fish and chip shop within 15 minutes' walk

And now, the end is near… about five minutes down the road, in fact. Yes, it’s almost the end of the road here at Mayon Camping in Sennen, about a mile and a half from Land’s End. The road in question is the A30, the main road that runs from Exeter across the whole of Cornwall and will handily deposit you at the very gates of the site.

It’s a fair bet to imagine that guests visiting this area are in search of the sea, and the site happily obliges with some smashing views out over the big blue from its grass pitches. There’s heaps of space in the fields so you should have no problem finding a suitable spot to plonk yourself down, light up a barbie and spend the evening munching on bangers while watching the sun disappear into the sea.

Food supplies can be acquired with minimal fuss from the small supermarket next door, but if you’d prefer to have your eats prepared you can take a 10-minute trot to the village pub or wander down to Sennen Cove, 15 minutes away, for a seaside pub; both serve up top-notch local food and ales. Also down at the cove are a great little fish ’n’ chip place and an award-winning beachside restaurant.

Should you wish to leave the car behind for your days out, you can hop on the bus from the stop that’s just outside the gates – local services pass by along with open-top buses that can transport you to Penzance and St Ives in style on a sunny day.

Back at the site, facilities are kept low-key to maintain the chilled coastal atmos, but toilets and showers have been provided in a portacabin a short walk from the pitches.

    View was amazing!

    Disliked:

Didn’t once speak to the owners. It felt like as we’d paid they didn’t see any point in coming to see us. So wouldn’t say it was a friendly campsite compared to others we’ve been too.

From the manager...

Sorry to hear that you felt that once you had paid we were not interested in you anymore. That is not the way we work, we were on site at all times chatting away to lots of campers giving advice were the best places to go, how to get to the destination. Lots of campers used to come over every evening on their returns just to let us know how they had got on.
So I'm sorry if you thought we had ignored you that was not our intention at all

Beach is close but down a very steep hill. Site is close to Lands End via an easy road walk or a spectacular coastal walk - well worth the extra time.

Some may say this site is too basic, but we loved it! Great location and walking distance to the beach.Shop and pub close by. You can literally pitch up anywhere in the field, which is huge! Fresh drinking water tap available at both sides of the field and the toilets and showers were exceptionally clean and well maintained with hot running water. I can't fault it and would def stay again. Great price too!

Very clean toilets and showers. Good washing up area. Dog friendly! Good base for day trips including going to Land’s End which is only 1 mile or so up the road, definitely walking distance, with a pub on the way. Amazing views of the sea and fields. Sennen is a short downhill walk with a lovely seafront town.

    Disliked:

My only fault is the lack of recycling available. There’s 3 can bins but no plastic which is a massive shame considering BBQ food all tends to come in plastic bases. BUT that is my only issue, we will definitely be returning.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review
Just to let you know as we didn’t want to many bins lying around. The waste company that picks up the bins go through the rubbish and recycle for us which we pay for ourselves
The company is called H & A recycling
Hope this sorts this for you

Local attractions

You can’t possibly come this far and not make it to Land’s End, a mile and a half down the road – it’ll take you five minutes to drive down there or half an hour to walk it. Once you’re there you can wander on the paths for views out towards the Scilly Isles, visit the First and Last House and pop in to the RSPB Discovery Centre for expert wildlife-spotting tips: not only birds but also dolphins and porpoises can be seen from here.

Also down at Land’s End are a bunch of kid-friendly attractions: meet the animals and watch crafts in action at Greeb Farm, step into the animated world of the Shaun the Sheep Experience and seek out the dragon’s lair at the interactive Arthur’s Quest. In summer, look out for the fireworks that are launched down here a couple of times a week.

For beach times, you can walk to Sennen Cove in 15 minutes on a quiet footpath. There’s a great big sweep of sand down here and some great surfing to be had, too. If you need some tips or a bit of a technique boost, sign up for lessons at one of the surf schools. Wander a little bit away from the beach and you can join the South West Coast Path for to find further little beaches and coves, including dog-friendly Gwynver beach.

Elsewhere along the coast, you can visit St Michael’s Mount, 25 minutes away, to see the medieval church and castle on a rocky island; walk over at low tide or hop on a boat if the waters have risen. Down in Porthcurno, 15 minutes or so from the site, head to the open-air Minack Theatre, built into the very cliff face with jaw-dropping sea views. Shows take place during the summer season only but you may well stumble upon a rehearsal if you visit at other times.

A 20-minute drive north from the site takes you to the Geevor Tin Mine, where you can don a hard hat and head underground to learn a bit about Cornwall’s mining heritage. While you’re there you can also pan for gems, wander around the abandoned buildings and get hands-on at the interactive museum.
