Sun Haven Valley Holiday Park

7.7 Favourite
From £13.50 (for 1 night, 2 adults)   Why not enter some details and get an accurate price?

Peace, perfect peace. Escape the crowds for some quality shut-eye at this impeccable site tucked among the trees and bordered by a babbling brook: there’s no pub, club or evening entertainment, and a strict no noise policy applies after 10.30pm. The scenery and the facilities at Sun Haven Valley Holiday Park are great, and it’s a mere ten-minute saunter down a shady woodland path to reach the glorious Mawgan Porth beach.

Children are welcome (there’s a good playground and well-equipped games room) and campers will find some thoughtful touches around the site, such as the library and optional private bathrooms.

For the ultimate bucolic idyll, book a pitch backing onto the trout stream and keep your eyes peeled for otters, herons and kingfishers...

Nearby attractions and activities

Aside from its acres of golden sand, rock pools and caves, Mawgan Porth has a café, supermarket and pub, as well as a small surf school, crazy golf and pitch and putt (more serious golfers will find an 18-hole golf course only a mile away).

It goes without saying that there is great walking in the area, not least along the South West Coastal Path, and Sun Haven’s friendly owners will happily supply guests with suggested routes for all abilities.

Anglers can fish for carp, tench and bream in the lakes next door to the park, or try and net a trout from the brook; there are plenty of other well-stocked lakes in the area, and regular sea-fishing trips depart from the likes of Padstow and Newquay. Both these towns can be reached in about 15 minutes by car (or hop on a bus outside the park gates) and offer a wealth of things to see and do.

Fantastic campsite, beautiful area, very relaxing & child friendly.

Liked: Free book borrowing service, just what I needed for a couple of days camping.

The park is perfect for little ones and the guinea pigs/ducks & donkey also made for a memorable stay.

Beautiful area, babbling stream by the pitch. So relaxing.

Also the showers & toilets are very clean, toaster available to use very handy. Hire of a family bathroom would be good for a week long stay.

Disliked: Loved everything.

Good quiet stay with beautiful views, pity about the rainy weather!

Liked: -The bathrooms, hot water at all times and always a free shower cubicle.
-The quietness after 10pm, everyone was asleep early enough to have an early start in the morning
-The views from the field were amazing
-Space to ourselves in the open field-felt less crowded than the main camp site
- Able to freeze your icepacks and borrow the sites packs/milk bottles in the meantime

Disliked: -The walk to the beach felt longer than 15mins (although I didnt time it.)
-The walk to the bathroom from the open field pitches (would be great to have a shower block there, although it did not take very long to walk there, the entrance was very muddy by day 2).

Peaceful site but not the cleanest

Liked: The grounds of the main site were kept beautifully clean and tidy. My 4 year old son loved the ducks, chickens and guinea pigs and we had to pop along and chat to them each morning and evening :)

The play park was lovely, although over run in the early evenings with older teens often heard to be swearing and seen to be spitting on the floor, not something I wanted my 4 year old to ...

Disliked: Open park...not perfect but nice and quiet, the field was uncut so the grass was over your ankles and as we have had quite a wet summer this year it was deep, thick mud, quite difficult to get your car out of the field. I had a ‘phobia’ of the portaloo’s at first (from past experience of this elsewhere), until I realised that they were actually cleaner than the main toilets on the ...

We apologise for Ms Shaw's experience on her THREE night stay. The showers are not "often" flooded – the non-slip flooring slopes gently to a common outlet which has been blocked twice in the last six years of which was once this summer - if this was during her stay then I suppose one night out of her three may constitute “often” to her. It is a shame that customers who find faults don't report them to reception so that we can fix them rather than just complain in retrospect. Ms Shaw would have walked past reception and the warden’s residence to get back to her tent, but it was a Dutch couple who came and told us of the problem, and the drain was cleared within minutes, with the offending item of clothing thrown away. Similarly with the teenagers. Teenagers can see a warden coming and obviously will change their behaviour, but as we have very few on the park (it's mainly a young families park) they usually congregate in one group and we will talk to them on behaviour reported to us (as we have done this year) but there is little more we can do without a customer being willing to anonymously identify the individuals concerned. The ladies toilets and shower block are one room and are cleaned each & every day along with all the facilities. The cleaning process takes between three and five hours to do the block with one or two cleaning staff - we also do "quick" cleans at 7.30am and 9-10.30pm - and we are normally complimented on their cleanliness, but I am not sure how many visits Ms Shaw made in her three days(especially if she was also using the portaloos) or at what times . Obviously in a wet summer, people are walking in muddy footprints as the cleaner finishes. We note that whilst the toilets and showers were reportedly "not the cleanest", but not so dirty that there was any need to report the fact or spend £2 for a private lockable bathroom with bath, shower, loo and baby changing table and thereby avoid them totally.
The camping field is our summer overspill field and fields unfortunately get wet in wet summers – on an open field 150m x 50m there is enough room to walk around muddy spots caused by car traffic and the entrance has an underlying hard-core. I also wish that we had wall-to-wall sunshine this year that would have enabled us to cut the lawns shorter and more often – at times grass cutting has been delayed several days by the rain.

We apologise for the temporary repair on one of our 25 toilet roll holder, but it clearly worked well enough for no-one to report it. When it was reported (on Mrs Shaws departure on a feedback form , it was replaced) . I have been to check the window sills – which at five foot off the ground, three inches wide and behind the toilet cistern may escape a cleaners attention – but these have since been cleaned, though the metal window frames need painting – a job that has been delayed as the staff have spent so much time helping campers in a very, very wet summer.

A very pleasant stay!

Liked: Beautiful venue. Pitched in a 5m Bell Tent next to the stream with EHU. The sound of the stream on an evening was very relaxing. The Owner and his Son were very welcoming and helpful if we had any questions. The amenities, toilets/showers/fridge were all kept clean. The walks from the campsite were very easy and we saw some amazing sights! We would definately stay again.

Disliked: There was only one issue we had which was the price of using the laundry room. We stayed for 5 nights and inevitably needed a couple of items washing, towels, walking trousers etc. It cost us £3.99 for 1 load, and a futher £1 for 10 minutes in the tumble dryer (which only seemed to warm the clothes rather than dry them). Also the windy single track roads to and from the campsite. This ...

Liked: The quiet, peaceful but not dull. The ducks and guinea pigs the children can feed/pet. The play park kept the children very happy and is next to the wash area so you can still keep an eye on/hear the children. Nice hot showers and no long queues and you can hire a private bathroom (£2 for 30 mins) if your little one like mine is scared of the shower. Lots of space for ...

Disliked: The 'open park' is actually a field acrross from the main park which is obviously used for farming when not for campers. We had to go across to main park for showers, dish washing and toilets (portaloos are for night time emergencies only) which was sometimes a 10 minute walk with the 2 yr old. This also meant the beach was not a 10 minute walk away. The tumble dryers aren't as good as ...

Disliked: The August overspill pitches are on the other side of a quiet road to the main facilities. We got used to this quickly however.

The sign in the portaloos suggest that campers walk to the main toilet block 90 metres away and reserve the portaloos for night times /emergencies.( We have been to campsites where the toilet block is a walk further than this 90m ). However not everyone can be bothered and when this is ignored the three cleans a day cannot keep up - what a shame some people cannot flush the loo or put their dirty paper towels in the supplied rubbish bin. We emphasise our enforced silence at 10.30pm and that we will not tolerate music that can be heard off of the pitch ( e.g radio, car stereo) . Anyone who breaks this will be asked to leave - IF IT IS REPORTED TO US

Liked: Almost everything about it, the location was amazing, it was so peaceful and relaxing and the woodland walk to the beach was really nice. The silence after 10:30pm policy was very nice especially as we had my youngest son with us.

All in all a great holiday.

Disliked: it was quite a remote camp-site to get to though there was bus that passed by there gates which was handy.

Directions

Get directions

Follow the A30 down past Bodmin to the Newquay turn-off.

Take the off-ramp at the “Highgate Hill” junction, signposted Newquay A392 & Wadebridge A39, to join the roundabout underneath the A30. Turn right, taking the A39 towards Wadebridge.

At the next roundabout ¾ mile on, again follow the A39 towards Wadebridge.

At the next roundabout 2 miles on, turn left on the A3059 towards Newquay

Some 2¾ miles on, just past the garage ( still there in 2009) turn right on the B3276 towards St. Mawgan, Mawgan Porth and Watergate Bay.

Drive on to the T-junction (2¾ miles on ) & turn right on the B3276 towards Mawgan Porth & Padstow.

Follow the road & you will go downhill & round a sharp turn into Mawgan Porth at beach level.

Cross the bridge and a hundred yard or so further on, just before you start to climb the hill there is right turn (Chapel Road) that leads inland away from the sea. This is the only road leading inland from Mawgan Porth beach. Turn right into this, with the crazy golf course/pitch and putt on your left.

A quarter mile further on you will pass through a very sharp 'S' bend and we are half a mile beyond that on the left. Please note that this last half mile is a "Cornish lane with "Cornish Hedges" (6ft stone walls covered with turf) and this is effectively a single way road with passing places. We note that the local bus company travels it hourly in single deckers & once a day with a double decker bus. If you call us we can tell you what time the hourly bus will be travelling that last half mile.

We are on the left-hand side of the road – a double width entrance with a 13-foot arch over it supported by stone pillars, so if you are in the right place it’s difficult to miss.

Reception is just inside the gate on the left. We look forward to seeing you and hope you have a pleasant journey!

Terms and conditions

Please read the park terms and conditions below and the Pitchup.com terms and conditions.

Families & Couples only. We have no club, no bar and a very strict silence after 10.30pm policy.

Please note: we are in the quietest countryside, there is no background noise at night so a silence/no-noise after 10.30pm policy is enforced by patrolling wardens. If you cannot take this please do not come - you will be asked to leave if you disturb others. During the day, noise may not be made that can be heard from outside the pitch or that is to the annoyance of others - so this excludes use of TVs in awnings, radios, CD/music players - particularly if 'car-based', musical instruments etc.

Payment card details must be confirmed to the park within 5 working days or the booking will be considered as cancelled by the putchaser.

FAMIILIES WITH TEENAGERS

Please note we have no club, no bar and no evening entertainment and only a small games room. Please consider this carefully as we may not be a park particularly suited to your teenagers unless they are surfers happy with a beach 10 minutes walk away. Children under 16 yrs old must be back at their accommodation by 9.40pm.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN

Children under 16 yrs old must be back at their accommodation just after 9.40pm or accompanied by an adult. Parents are responsible for their children at all times and must familiarise themselves with the site and signage on arrival. Children must not use the toilets/wash area as a playground. The playground is suitable for children from 5 to 12 years old, but parental supervision is essential.

DOGS must be kept on a lead at all times and only exercised off the site. The dog may not accompany children walking around site. Dogs are not allowed in our caravans unless they are shown on your invoice and are not allowed on the main lawns at any time. Dogs must never be left unattended in either our or your accommodation/vehicle and fouling, excessive noise or aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated. You may be required to produce a ground spike and lead on arrival. Should the rules be broken we will require that you remove your dog from the site.

CANCELLATIONS

Submission of the Pitchup.com booking forms a contract to purchase a holiday and the 'lead name' will be liable for the full amount. Cancellations are not possible and the full balance will be due.

WEATHER & FORCE MAJEURE

Please note that we are not responsible for the weather. There are no refunds for bad weather, force majeure or for the consequences of such events. You will be liable for payment and we advise you take out holiday insurance to cover this. You cannot bring a tent that requires a "footprint" of more than 5m in both directions.
