General

  • Rural Cornish farm with on-site fishing
  • A 20-minute drive from Bude
  • Farm shop, takeaway and site barbecue

Cornwall, fishing, fab views, lip-smacking farm produce and pasties made to order… tis no wonder that guests wax lyrical about Chelsfield Farm, about 20 minutes from the beaches and watery activities of splendid Bude.

Set on a smallholding within 17 acres deep in rural Cornwall, this family farm comes with spectacular views towards Dartmoor, immaculate amenities, and a handsomely set fishing lake at which to land carp and tench for a small fee. (Not a fishing fan? Bring a book and a picnic to the lakeside instead.)

Resident horses Dolly and Connie are part of the farm menagerie, along with a flock of sheep, free-range chickens, turkeys, geese and guinea fowl, all on a wide open green space with large, level and well-drained pitches and plenty of room for kids to play (send them to find the tree swing and you'll likely not see them for hours). Amenities are well looked after and include a toilet and shower block with free electric showers, a washing-up sink, several water taps and a chemical waste point.

Owners Marianne and Alan strongly encourage barbecues here, so it's just as well that Chelsfield also comes with a smashing farm shop, stocked with first-rate produce including locally farmed meat, fresh free-range eggs and other bits and pieces to sizzle up on the site barbie while looking across to Dartmoor.

If you'd rather not cook, the farm takeaway serves breakfast baps, burgers and hot dogs, as well as sandwiches, pies and pasties all made to highly tasty order.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

6 man tent, with Gazebo and EHU.

Alan and Marianne are the most welcoming hosts I've ever met. So friendly and nothing is to much trouble. We booked for 7 nights and ended up staying for 10.
The pitch sizes are comfortable, not crammed in on top of each other, Campfires and moonlight a plenty. There's plenty of exploring for the kids and the view of the countryside is lovely to wake up to.
We had some biblical rain at one point, and the field drained really well,( I've been at sites where a drop of rain turned into a mudbath!) Most pitches seemed to be level.

Amenities :- One communal 3 shower/ 3 toilet porta cabin with a washing machine on the main camping part and also a separate segregated toilet/shower tucked in behind the lodges.- this is the shower block we used even though we were closer to the communal one. Reason being there was hot water at the sinks.
They are both well maintained if a little dated, but hey your camping not staying in the Hilton.
Chelsfield Farm is the perfect place to base your Cornwall adventures from.
Would we come back ? Most definetely.

    Disliked:

My only critique would be the communal toilet sinks and the washing dishes area need to have hot water.

The owners were very friendly and welcoming. The farm shop was open long hours and well stocked. The toilets were clean.

    Disliked:

The bins were over flowing I think this May have been because the bank holiday. There was only one shower in the men’s toilets and the light wasn’t working which made it difficult to shower. There were a lot of children who were extremely loud at times so I wouldn’t recommend this campsite for couples but it’s brilliant for families.

Camp fires allowed which sealed our decision to stay at Chelsfield Farm.
Our kids LOVED your breakfast sausages and we all enjoyed your burgers too.
Fishing lake was an attraction for us too, as girls really enjoy fishing and catching lots of little carp made for memorable afternoon bonus they caught a big one!!! 5lbs

The farm owners were really friendly welcoming people nothing too much trouble if you need help and they do a barbecue Saturday nights but we'd already bought our own food but next time will join in. Our pitch was really quite large for our tent gave us lots of space for the car and moving around. The showers and toilets were just over the path from us but there are lots around to choose from, the showers are electric so hot showers and really clean and the toilets are really clean and there is sinks to wash up and get water for drinking from. we could have a campfire in our pit and allowed music on at a sensible volume, the scenery around is so pretty and the site is so relaxing, there is wifi and swings for children to play on and a lake, also animals on the farm, will definitely come back next year.

Local attractions

North Cornwall, north Devon and Dartmoor are all easily reachable from Chelsfield Farm, for days around coast and countryside, wildlife watching and walking, cantering around on horseback and fishing via shore and river. Tintagel Castle, the Crealy Great Adventure Park and other top Cornish family spots are within a short drive.

Most folk know nearby Bude for its surf, but you'll find a fair bit to do around town and out of the water too, from cantering on its coastline to potters around its old harbour or letting the kids loose at the town's six-storey indoor play centre.

The spectacular South West Coast Path runs from Bude to Crackington Haven and from there onto Boscastle and Tintagel, or you could hike in the other direction 15 miles to Hartford Quay via the Hartford Peninsula and then – if you dare – another 10 miles onto the tiny cobbled town of north Devon's Clovelly.

Other activities all around include sea fishing, clay pigeon shooting, birdwatching, and spotting local wildlife like red deer, roe deer, foxes, badgers, frogs, newts, toads, squirrels and hedgehogs: it's very much recommended that you bring your paintbox and your camera...

Must see

  • Tintagel Castle (14.2 miles)
  • RHS Garden Rosemoor (20.3 miles)
