Simply messing about in boats is a breeze at Penmarlam Caravan and Camping Park, on the Fowey Estuary in Cornwall. Lucky enough to have your own boat? Launch it straight onto the sparkling waters from the slipway adjoining the site. More cabin boy/girl than captain? Test your sea legs by hiring a kayak, or jump aboard one of the scenic ferries to Fowey and beyond...

Even if you're a confirmed landlubber, we reckon you’ll like the cut of this site's jib: the pitches are generous enough to give everyone a wide berth, and the facilities most definitely ship shape. The park shop is chock-a-block with kit and vittles at reasonable prices (the lovely wardens will even order your favourite morning paper for you during your stay), plus there's free wifi, immaculate showers and loos with Platinum Loo of the Year grading, a laundry room and an information centre to help you fathom out all the local attractions. With a great foodie pub and a waterfront café just a stroll away, you can go with the flow when it comes to the catering, too.

All the pitches at this dog-friendly site have electric hook-ups, and there are several of the fully-serviced variety too. Better still, you get to choose your preferred location on arrival: the top field has first-rate views over the surrounding countryside, while the pitches lower down are more sheltered and screened with shrubbery. Whichever you choose, we reckon your holiday at Penmarlam will be plain sailing all the way...

Nearby attractions and activities

Guests often give the car a few days off at Penmarlam Caravan and Camping Park and leg it around the alluring coastal paths instead: there are some gorgeous coves, cliffs and bays in the immediate vicinity. Alternatively, it takes just a few minutes aboard the ferry from the neighbouring village of Bodinnick to reach the pretty town of Fowey, veritably buzzing during its annual regatta week in August, but a lively spot at any time of year with its cornucopia of cafés, pubs, shops and restaurants, and a popular family beach at Readymoney Cove.

With many other excellent beaches within easy reach, this is prime territory for sea fishing trips and water sports of every description.

The Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are the closest of the top attractions, both just a few miles away, but you’re really well placed at Penmarlam to reach all the delights of Cornwall: animal sanctuaries, historic homes and gardens, theme parks, castles, museums, and glorious towns such as Polperro and Looe.

Liked: This is one of the best sites we have stayed at. I have never written a review before, so that says something in itself. The site owner and wardens were very friendly and helpful, and the site & facilities were immaculate. The site shop was well stocked and well thought through. We had some great walks from the site, as well as launching our canoe from the quay down the lane. The Ferry Boat Inn is ...

Disliked: Nothing to dislike at all!

Liked: Clean, well kept, quiet, relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Fantastic site.Shop is well stocked, and shower block is clean and well laid out.

I can understand how people who want to be 'entertained' won't like it. There's no on-site entertainment or bar.
There's no restaurant either unless you walk down to the boatyard in the summer where you'll find Trevalans who do an excellent lunch all year round and a fabulous (and ...

Really pleased you like coming back, and we love to see you - don't forget the Old Ferry Inn for food it's only 10 mins walk and the new owners are doing outstanding food - and if you eat in the Restaurant (same price as in the bar) you have fantastic views over the harbour and Fowey.
If, like you, people are using the slipways and pontoons Trevalans (now renamed The Quay Cafe) is a delight - though of course the other option is to cook al fresco on-site and chat with friends (plently of food and wine in the shop- and Hogs Pudding for Matt)
Look forward to seeing you both soon. Marcus

Liked: The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
The site was really peaceful.
We were able to do some fantastic walks from this site.
The facilities were excellent.
We met some lovely people who go back to this site year on year, so I think that says a lot about a site.

Disliked: We had no dislikes.

Liked: The wonderfully clean showers and toilet block, friendly staff, the well stocked shop. Perfectly manicured pitches that I know, even in busier times, they leave to rest so that they can recover if the grass is a little patchy, so no pitching your tent in a muddy hole. Marcus and his staff really care about their customers and remember us by name. We've been four times now, usually as a couple but we will ...

Disliked: Nothing to dislike about the campsite it's lovely as is the area, however you do need to watch the ferry times on the way back from Fowey in the evening. We did get stranded as they are unclear. However this is out of the campsites control.

Liked: Clean, little noise

Disliked: Price, lock code for loos, showers, try pushing a code pad in the dark at 1.30am dying for the loo!!!!! You feel that by staying there that they are doing you a favour, not friendly at all, very old decor for top money, showers cold and VERY SLOWWWWWW all the time. Wrong side of the river, you are trapped.

We are very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. We do encourage our guests to bring anything they would like improving to our attention at the time so that we may resolve any issue if possible.

By way of explanation we have code button locks on the toilets and showers like many other Parks, including the 2 clubs, for your personal security and to ensure that our guests are not waiting for a shower being used by someone who is not staying or paying on the Park.
The showers themselves are themostatically controlled to run between 40°c and 38°c depending on ambient temperature. I am surprised you found them slow as we have very high water pressure.

I cannot understand your comment about 70's decor as the buildings were constructed in 2004 and fully refurbished, re-tiled, and redecorated in 2012 and the curtains and decorations are all brand new this year. This can be seen on the photographs on the main page or on our own website.

Again I'm very sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay and wish you had brought this to our attention at the time so that at the very least we could have apologised at the time.
