We’re coming over all poetic. But how can we not when writing about a lone yurt in a southwest-facing field on a Cornish farm? We’d probably be breaking into verse before we’d even unpacked.
The poetic pitch is Albion Farm Yurt, in a secluded corner of on a smallholding at Mylor near Falmouth, where the owners have perched it as an environmentally-friendly alternative to a holiday cottage. It’s all rather clever really – the yurt is handmade on Bodmin Moor using a traditional Mongolian yurt design and coppiced wood, with woodburning stove and gas cooker inside. The sides can be peeled back to let the air in, and there’s a roof light too for yurt-based stargazing. And it’s all surrounded by trees among a large grassy area and local wildlife, which means staying here is back to nature but with stacked with home comforts. Something that also makes us feel a bit poetic…
Cooking/eating irons are provided and there’s a fridge and freezer in a building close to hand. You’ll also have your own cabin right next to the yurt, with camping loo, shower, basin, electric lighting and a towel rail. Albion Farm is ten minutes’ walk from Mylor village, where there’s the Lemon Arms pub, shops, butcher and fishmonger; the waterside thirteenth century Pandora Inn is a 15 minute walk from your pitch, along a creekside path.

The yurt is 16ft in diameter with a ceiling height of 10ft or so. It feels spacious and sleeps four and a cot comfortably. It stands on a level wooden deck with a wood-burning stove in the centre, and carpets and rugs on the floor.
The bed is a low king-size chestnut wooden platform with a warm comfortable orthopaedic mattress. We supply a duvet, sheets, pillows and slips for the double, but we ask that additional guests bring sleeping bags or bedding (normally kids). A cot is available if needed.
The pine wooden doors are more secure against the elements than canvas tent flaps. There is a gas cooker suitable for use in the yurt - alternatively, use the kettle on the wood-burning stove or cook under the stars on the camp fire. All cooking and eating utensils, including a cafetiere, are provided.
There is a hot shower, basin and camping WC in a separate cabin immediately adjacent to the yurt with electric lighting heated towel rail. There is a fridge and freezer in a separate building close by. Rates include wood, linen, gas, and electric.
