General

  • Family and couples' site on the Devon/Cornwall border
  • A mile and a half from Bude and its beaches
  • Fishing, golf, sports barn, farmyard animals and nature trails

'In the countryside, by the sea' is how the Colwill clan describe their site Wooda Farm Holiday Park on the Devon/Cornwall border, which will probably sound pretty perfect to people who dither between both as a location for their hols.

Wooda is a park for families and couples, run by the Colwills since 1975, with lush views of the Cornish coastline and the countryside, and loads to do for days on site, like a fishing lake, pitch and putt, a sports barn with fitness suite and badminton, and activities like archery and tennis in school holidays.

Want to take things a tad more easily? Wander and wildlife watch around Wooda Farm's 40 acres of parkland or take a book to the park gardens.

The kids will likely want to meet the four pygmy goats, chickens and lambs that live on the farm, and when (if) they finally tire of that, they can go and look for pixies among the woodland paths and nature trails or hang out in the games and TV room. For the under-fives, bouncing around the specially designated toddlers' play room with Wendy house, slide, bean bags, ride on toys and a new soft play area should be a bit of a hit.

The Wooda Farm amenities – three shower and toilet blocks with hairdryers and sockets, disabled facilities, undercover dishwashing sinks, campers' kitchen and a washing point for wetsuits – are excellently maintained, and the park also has a well-stocked licensed shop, a launderette and wifi.

Plenty of picks for food are on hand too, with home-cooked meals (and plenty of picks for beer and wine) in the Courtyard bar and takeaway food in the Lodge.

Bringing the pooch? There's even a special shower for mucky pups who've been running around the extensive dog walking area.

A fantastic site 17/07/2018

This was a fabulous dog friendly site which we stayed at for 4 nights, it complimented a similar stay in Devon.
The site was clean and very well maintained and staff were pleasant and more than helpful when offering advice about the local area.
The shower block was very clean and the Courtyard bar also allowed dogs in certain areas which is always a plus. There is a separate dog walking area as well as a woodland.
There is a caravan repair centre adjacent to the site should you need any running repairs or advice.
There is also free WiFi with a good TV reception in the area.
The site is close to Bude (about a 2 mile walk along a country road) and allows a good opportunity to visit other areas along the Cornwall coastline (we visited Port Isaac & Padstow which was about an hour away).
Overall a fantastic holiday and i would definitely visit again.

Shown on map where to go but the site is huge and the pitches not marked clearly ( ours was a grass none electric pitch with no number or numbers on the row in sight) so had difficulty in finding pitch. Narrow roads to get to site

From the manager...

Thank you for kindly leaving a review following your recent stay at Wooda Farm as it was lovely to read that you enjoyed the facilities that we have to offer here.

I am sorry that you had trouble locating your pitch as all guests on arrival are given a park plan and we also explain how to get to each pitch. Non-service pitches on the main park are marked, however non-service pitches within Bramble Park and Upper Meadow are not marked so anyone staying in either of these areas is able to pitch up on an area that suits their needs and all we ask is that they remain within a 10m x 10m area.

Wooda is situated one and a half miles from Bude in Poughill which is no longer than a 5 minute drive from the A39 if accessing the park from the Stamford Hill turning in Stratton. Although we are a little rural we are still close enough to the town, the beaches and from Wooda there are stunning views of the sea. Bude itself is often described as the jewel in Cornwall's crown, the farthest north of all the Cornwall resorts, but the easiest by road.

We very much look forward to welcoming you back to Wooda in the near future.

Large well spaced site with neat hedging; we chose a lovely grass hook up pitch. Shower blocks clean and efficient; shop and staff were great, The Courtyard Restaurant (we ate there twice) served a good choice of food and drinks in a pleasant setting. Lots of games/attractions (tennis, table tennis, pool, golf, farm animals, walks - others in high season). Close to Bude (beach and town) - we took the local bus there and taxi back.

    Disliked:

Pity the Loft Cocktail Bar was open only for limited days when we stayed.
If there had been a swimming pool - it would be PERFECT!

Everything was clean and well looked after. The shop was great with a big selection of useful things you might need camping and very helpful staff. Very powerful showers in the toilet blocks. Tasty food in the restaurant which came out quickly. Children’s cheesy ham pasta was a hit. Lovely views of the bay from pitch.

    Disliked:

We paid for the use of the family bathroom which was a disappointment. The shower wouldn’t fit in the holder on the wall so any pressure change meant it fell off. There were no changing tables in there either. At least you could adjust the temperature in the family ones unlike the ones in the main women’s/men’s showers although they were more powerful.

From the manager...

Thank you for your lovely review following your recent stay here at Wooda Farm. We were pleased to hear that you enjoyed your holiday and the facilities that we have to offer on the park.

We are sorry that you were disappointed with the family bathroom and we have passed your comments onto the maintenance department for these issues to be addressed. With regard to changing tables, we do have an infant bathroom on each side of the park which is free to use and this does have a raised bath and also changing table facilities.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Wooda Farm in the near future.

Directions

From the M5 at Exeter, take the A30 towards Okehampton. Just past Okehampton at the top of a long hill, take the slip road signposted to Bude and follow signs to the A3072. On reaching a T-junction with the A39 at Stratton, turn right and follow the A39 for 100 metres then turn left. After 1 mile, there is a crossroads near the village of Poughill (pronounced ‘Poffle’) - carry straight on and Wooda Farm Park is 100 metres further on, on the right.

Alternatively, leave the M5 at Junction 27 and follow the North Devon Link Road to Barnstaple and Bideford. On the A39, pass through Kilkhampton and after 4 miles you will see a filling station on the right. Take the next right. Drive for 1 mile past the crossroads and Wooda Farm Park is 100 metres further on, on the right.

Note: Google Maps and satnavs are not always correct; if you are following the instructions travelling south on the A39 (from Barnstaple), please avoid Stone Hill and continue on the A39 south until you see the signs for Wooda.

Local attractions

Wooda Farm Holiday Park's location on the Devon/Cornwall border means it's in prime location for exploring the best of both counties, from the surfing and rockpooling beaches around Bude a mile and a half away, to seaside towns and villages like Boscastle and Clovelly, both 15 miles away.

Take to the surf at Bude's Crooklets Beach (the Wooda Farm team can arrange surf lessons nearby or canoeing on Bude's canal), Widemouth Bay within three miles and Crackington Haven eight miles away from Bude. For families, Bude's sandy Summerleaze Beach or the rockpools of Northcott Mouth are top picks; dogs are allowed at both.

If you fancy a walk, it's ten miles along the South West Coast Path from Bude Canal to Crackington Haven – look out for Dartmoor tors at the Tower of the Winds storm tower – and from there further south to Boscastle, Tintagel and Port Isaac. Too tough? Turn left outside the park for the three-mile walk via Poughill village and a cream tea.

Within 20–50 minutes' drive south along the coast, explorers will reach day trips' worth of seaside towns, like Tintagel and its castle within 25 minutes and the fourteenth century fishing village Port Isaac 40 minutes away.

Rick Stein's seafood restaurants at Padstow, the start of the Camel Trail at Wadebridge and the Camel Estuary village of Rock are all 50 minutes away.
