General

  • Peaceful back-to-basics site on a working farm in north Cornwall
  • 10 minutes' drive from the beaches and watersports of Bude
  • Historic pub a 20-minute stroll or short drive away

So, you want a peaceful rural retreat, surrounded by open farmland, do you? But you want it to have an ancient pub within walking distance? And you’d like to be only about a 10-minute drive from the seaside?

Then you’ll be wanting a word with Farmer Phil, a cheery chap who’s clearly got an eye for location. Farmer Phil’s Campsite is about as country as they come, being a 75-acre real-life farm with real-life cows and sheep, and surrounded by quiet farmland.

The excellent Red Post Inn is a 20-minute stroll away (in the same place it’s been since the 9th century, history buffs) for home-cooked food and lovely local ales. If you prefer to go the DIY dinner route, farm shops and a supermarket are about a 10-minute drive away, and you’re welcome to light up your barbie.

And those beaches? Well, they’re the fine specimens in and around Bude, around 10 minutes’ drive away. There’s surfing, golf, watersports and walking trails galore in and around town, and the local area is equally well supplied with family-friendly days out.

Being a lover of natural country charms, Farmer Phil hasn’t overly developed his site, installing just the essentials in his amenities area: toilet and shower facilities, plus a washing-up area.

The site was amazing, that great we extended our stay for two extra nights. Phil and his wife are both incredibly helpful and greated us immediately on arrival. The whole time we were there they chatted to us.

One day we went out and came back to see the Phil had cut us a grass path and a space of the car. The care Phil has about his site to and the experience you have whilst there is just unreal.

Oh and this review wouldn't be right with out mentioning the dogs, they are so happy to see you arrive and love fuss. They will wonder in your tent to make sure you have fussed them enough. Which we loved :)

Had a fantastic time, warm welcome, friendly staff, basic utilities but everything you need. Very clean and tidy. We will be coming back. The kids loved the fact that they were on a farm and could see the animals.

Space, Wi-fi, use of fridge, kettle, washer and dryer on site. Working farm so lots of animals around, which my son loved meeting. Farmer Phil was the perfect host - polite, friendly and helpful. He met us at the gate with a warm welcome and showed us to our pitch. Showed us where the facilities were (one toilet and one shower which were basic but suitable) and gave us his number in case we needed anything. We loved waking up to only the sound of the animals. We had the perfect pitch to watch the sunset. This was our first ever camping trip and we will definitely be going again. If you want peace and quiet this is the perfect place.

The only thing I could suggest would be for the site to be signposted from the road.

Poor facilities, one toilet, one shower. Both were not particularly clean. The shower was littered with used and half used shower gel and shampoo bottles.

for the whole campsite there was only 1 toilet and one shower. the washing facilities (if you could call them that) were on the same area as the 1 disgusting toilet and shower. the campsite thought it would be a great idea to put the wifi router and the same area, it was full of teenage boys and young men sat around so when going to the loo there was no privacy at all! we also booked and paid for 6 pitches with electric hook up but we only received 2 pitches with electric with no refund offered. all in all we were not happy campers!

Great campsite not far from beaches of Bude. Friendly owners and lots of extra facilities like tumble dryer and washing machine. We had plenty of space and it’s a beautiful setting.

    Disliked:

Only one toilet and shower so could get busy!

Local attractions

Let’s start with those beaches: the coastline around Bude is a bit of a stunner, with lots of great sandy swathes to visit. Many are dog-friendly, and several are fab for surfing – learn the technique at one of the surf schools around Summerleaze beach or catch the waves at Widemouth Bay or Northcott Mouth.

That’s not it for aquatic activity, though – Bude’s also a great spot for canoeing, windsurfing and coasteering, and Tamar Lakes is 20 minutes away for carp fishing and various watersports activities and lessons. Sticking to dry land, there’s a golf course in Bude and a riding centre around a 20-minute drive away for woodland trots and beachy canters.

Nipper-friendly attractions within half an hour or so include the the Milky Way Adventure Park and the Tamar Otter and Wildlife Centre.
