Like Topsy, it just growed…The Barn Caravan Park at Lancing, West Sussex opened in 2003 and has been growing and welcoming campers ever since. Fret not though if big campsites aren’t your thing: this is a peaceful medium-sized site and is carefully maintained by owner Joe to avoid overcrowding even in busy periods. Hide yourself away here or take a trip to Brighton about seven miles away; several West Sussex beaches are even closer to hand.
Tent pitches are on grass and come with access to The Barn’s newly installed loos and showers with lashings of free hot water; for outdoor suds, there’s a cold water beach-type shower. There are brick barbecues and picnic tables for guests to use, and a good children’s play area with full-sized football goal, swings, ball game area and a climbing tower slide.
For getting off site, there are buses and trains within a mile; Lancing train station, with a supermarket outside, is about half a mile away.
Nearby attractions and activities
Beaches, beaches, beaches…the nearest beach, South Lancing, is within a short walk, with the beaches of Worthing and Shoreham-by-Sea each two miles’ walk from here. Or head west along the coast to the flumes of Littlehampton’s Harbour Park or to the bountiful resort of Bognor Regis, officially declared Britain’s sunniest seaside resort in 2011. Going east? Brighton probably doesn’t need an introduction, but if you’re looking for recommendations on what to do there, George IV’s Royal Pavilion, Sea Life Brighton or shopping/eating out around The Lanes are good places to start.
The town of Lancing is less than a mile away from The Barn with a nature reserve, Lancing Ring, to its north and restaurants and shops at which to fill your boots and empty your wallet. Worthing is also well worth a look as one of the biggest towns in the area – and the former home of Oscar Wilde and Harold Pinter for those who like their literature. There are a couple of hundred listed buildings in the town to make your way around as well as the biggest museum in West Sussex, an undercover shopping centre and, er, a haunted oak tree. Worthing is also the venue of the annual International Birdman event, where optimists attempt to fly off the end of the pier in the oldest Birdman event in the world.
Along the coast to the west there’s cracking Chichester with its Norman cathedral, festivals and shops; Fishbourne Roman Palace, the biggest Roman home in Britain, is just outside the city. Portsmouth is around an hour’s drive away for days’ worth of activities and attractions like the award-winning aquarium or a trip around Portsmouth Historic Dockyard to see old ships including the Mary Rose; for a true day trip, hop on the ferry to the Isle of Wight or France.
Going inland, nature lovers, sightseers and adrenaline seekers will find heaps of things to do: the market town of Horsham and its birds of prey centre; horse-riding, hiking and historical artefacts in the South Downs National Park; the RSPB reserve of Pulborough Brooks and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust wildlife haven Arundel overlooked by Arundel Castle.
Sprogs have plenty of choice too: take them along to West Sussex’s farm parks and play centres, to Chichester for mountain boarding (not biking) or for a puff on the South Downs Light Railway.

The camp site was great. Spacious and relaxed and clean, well located. Nikki S. (Young couple, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: The owner of the site was friendly and laid back, he was very helpful and gave us some good ideas for things to do in the surrounding areas. The amenities were clean and well maintained, the scenery was beautiful. Located 10 mins walk from lancing station it was easy to leave the camper parked up and catch a train into Brighton, or take a short drive up to devils dyke. I would definitely recommend to ... Disliked: The cold floor in the shower room, it gets a little chilly early morning! |

Liked: Nice campsite showers and WC very clean and nice hot water to shower cold water tap on sink good to wake you up first thing in the morning. Plenty of room for each tent and you are not put right on top of the tent next door. Disliked: needs a few signs to make it easy to find we have a tomtom so no problem for us but with out it maybe not so easy as it,s down a small road. In holland most of the campsites have a few signs on the roads close to the camping to make it easy to find. |

Excellent facilities, friendly warden, superb site close to sea front. Will definitely visit again. Rammatthews (Family with older children, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: Large flat camping area for tents. New purpose built shower block with drinks vending machine and free facilities to freeze ice blocks. Play park for younger children and full size goal for older children. Ideal stop over for Brighton or a longer stay. Very relaxed site with plenty of room. Disliked: There are a few high trees reducing the view of the aeroplanes during the air show weekend. Nothing we disliked about this site. |

A good experience Michael T. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: The toilet block was cleaned several times a day. There's a big area in the middle kept clear for ball games, and a climbing frame. Handy washing up area. Manager very friendly and answered email in minutes. Disliked: Only one toilet in the ladies'. Pitches are a bit on the small side. It's a windy site like most of the British coast. |

Lovely camp site very friendly owner perfect location Mrs Lisa S. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: I like the fact that it is not a huge huge site and i could keep tabs on the children. Although we didn't have Electric hook up, next time i will make sure we book electric hook up. Nice to see that at every electric hook up point there was a brick built BBQ. Look forward to seeing more changes that the owner wants to make when we go back :-) New shower block clean ... Disliked: There is nothing that i disliked! |

Had a good time Melina R. (Young couple, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: This is a basic campsite, which is what we were looking for. The management was friendly, the toilets clean and it is just a 5-10 min walk away from the beach and roughly 10 miles away from Brighton. Disliked: if you want a fancy site this isn't for you. If you want a place to pitch up your tent, this is what you are looking for |

Friendly laid back site, great value for money! giddykipper (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Stayed here for a hot weekend in August. Site is well kept clean and tidy, and the site manager Joe was super, very friendly and helpful. Was pleased to see he has kept site limit sensible and even though site was 'full' ,it was still very spacious and did not have to queue for showers once. Facilities basic but so is the price! Location of site is fantastic, just a 5 minute walk to Lancing ... Disliked: Not much to dislike for the price, except another ladies' loo would be useful. |

We turned up and nobody was there from the caravan park. The caravan park was a small field littered with piles of timber and cordoned off small areas of ground in the middle of it. We had a look at the field and shower block and decided not to stay. deboraho (Family with older children, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: Nothing Disliked: The 'reception' was an unmaned shed.
From the manager...
