Red sky at night, campers’ delight? That might not be exactly how the saying goes, but you won’t give a hoot when goggling at the gorgeous scarlet sunset at Osney Lodge Farm. Plonk yourself down on a camping chair on this tranquil spacious site and gape about you at the pitch-perfect panoramic views…remembering to stay very still so you won’t frighten off any of the rabbits, foxes and occasional deer that wander around the site, not to mention the resident buzzards cawing above…
Once you can make yourself move and the kids are clamouring to be fed, fire up the barbie for supper: self-contained barbecues and raised fires are A-OK here, and the farm sells self-contained burners if you haven’t brought a barbecue or if the kids are insisting on campfire cooking. If you’ve forgotten anything else or run out of essential gear, Osney is a mile down the lane from one of the biggest camping centres in the South-East for easy stocking up.
Pitches here are grass and have all modern amenities: chemical waste disposal, fresh drinking water and separate loo blocks for the ladies and gents. The park is only eight minutes away from the Jolly Farmer pub for traditional beer and cider and a five drive to the 17th century Fox and Hound for some of the best pub grub around. Once you get off your camping chair, that is...
Nearby attractions and activities
Make Lingfield village your first stop when you leave the farm, to amble around the 16th and 18th century buildings as part of a Surrey history tour that can also take in the Old Mill windmill an hour’s walk from Osney, and Leeds Castle, Penshurst Place and Hever Castle reachable from a quick trip in the car. Also recommended is saying ‘Oh yes’ to Chartwell, Winston Churchill’s family home, where the kids can muck around in the Marycot playhouse built for the youngest Churchill daughter.
The kids will also go gaga for Godstone Farm & Playbarn in the Surrey hills, voted the best family day out in the area for 2012 by those in the know. Littlies can help to feed the pigs and ducks, pet the rabbits and learn how to properly groom a pony before clambering on the tractors and trains, tackling the zip slides and getting lost in the mazes. The British Wildlife Centre is recommended for bigger litties into their animals, as it has over 40 different native species to spot and events including keeper talks and photography workshops.
Other attractions in the area include having a flutter at Lingfield Park Racecourse, chuffing along in the countryside on the Bluebell Railway or getting active with countryside walks, sailing, kayaking, golf and fishing all nearby.

Great site, great reception Katie D. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: We booked the night before and arrived quite late but were greeted with a smile and enjoyed our stay. The toilet block was clean and the site was very clean and tidy, lots of space for the lil uns to run around and great plane spotting! Disliked: Nothing |

Liked: Very easy to find. Good customer service. Beautiful views. Very convenient location. The nearby British Wildlife Centre was the highpoint of our holiday. Disliked: The noisy foreigners who appeared on the Saturday night blaring Europop! Luckily they went home the next day. Lack of showers. Farm shop was closed for refurbishment. |

We had a very relaxing few days. Jane G. (Family with older children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: We enjoyed the space and peacefulness of the site. It is good to find a site that is so relaxed about the children playing games, especially ball games and provides enough space. We also enjoyed being able to have a fire pit as the evenings were a bit chiilly. Disliked: The toilets had no lights, but they were clean. |

Mixed thoughts Julia W. (Extended family, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Beautiful view from our pitch and plenty of room. Disliked: Toilets were dirty, no soap or hand towels. On the Saturday evening cars came into the field and were playing load music for most of the night. |

Liked: Staff/owners were really lovely, helpful and supportive. Disliked: The awful group next to us - consisting if two dads and four children. The men drank cans of Tennants Extra all day long, their kids were shouting and screaming until 1.00am whilst the dads laughed and swore until gone 3.00am. |

Liked: A very friendly camp site with a great view. Nice to get back to basics with the simple facilities provided. The toilets were cleaned and stocked regularly although there were no working lights in there. Would recommend a trip to Goldstone Farm which is just a few minutes drive away. Disliked: Bit of a pain needing a key to use the toilet, towards the end of our stay they were left open which made it a lot easier to access, especially for the children. |

Lovely campsite. The owner was a lovely, friendly lady, the field where you could pitch up was huge, plenty of open space for the kids to run around. Debbie R. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: The views were amazing, and we liked the fact that you could pitch up wherever you wanted and had lots of space to yourself. They also allow raised camp fires (you could hire the fire basket from the owner of the campsite), which is rare to find in a campsite these days. Disliked: It has no showers, but for one night it didnt matter. Also the Farm shop onsite has now been closed down, and there wasnt really any other shops within walking distance, so you have to drive to go and get anything you need. Next time we'll remember to take everything we need with us. |
