Student groups welcome
See all facilities…“It’s not proper camping unless there’s a campfire”, as Prometheus said when he nicked Zeus’s fire for a singalong with some tent-dwelling ancient Greeks. The flame-loving trickster would have approved of this Etherley Farm, where campers are free to get their embers blazing without reprimand (poor old Prometheus suffered a rather harsh punishment for his fireiness).
Caravans, campervans and tents are all welcome, with a free choice of location within the roomy field. The site has basic facilities including water, individual showers and a toilet block, but no electric hook-ups.
Although the poultry farm at Etherley is not open to visitors, guests can bag some of its mouthwatering produce for their barbie: chicken, burgers and sausages are all on sale (just drop the owners a line stating what you’d like when you book). Campers can also purchase wood for their fire on site.
Please note that Etherley Farm does not take dogs.
Nearby attractions and activities
There are some lovely foodie pubs very close to the site, and the area is great for walking: the sweeping views of the North Downs from Box Hill, six miles from the site, are not to be missed.
Guests who want to keep things local can visit the nearby National Trust property of Polesden Lacey, or take a tour of the country’s biggest vineyard. Those prepared to venture a little further will find a vast number of attractions and activities across Surrey and in London (a 50 minute train journey from Dorking).

I shall use it again and I recommend it highly. Paul U. (With friends, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: the location, the set-up, the friendly and helpful staff, the access to the woods and nature trails, being able to have camp fires and the value for money. Disliked: that I only stayed for two nights. |

It is a wide open site. Toilet block was in good or Pamela W. (Group-mostly male, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Easily accessible site. The toilet blocks are in good order with lighting. Dry wood and kindling were available for purchase at a reasonable price. The use of wood chips to soak up some the moisture and to make the area less muddy was an excellent idea Disliked: The site though very spacious is not particularly level and drainage is a bit of a problem with all the wet weather.
From the manager...
Thank you- Agree with the wet- we cannot order the weather & we are on clay!] |

Nice location, friendly owner, facilities basic but functional Andy P. (Solo traveller-male, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: This is a basic inexpensive campsite on a working farm. The owner was friendly and very helpful. There is a small shop that sells farm produce, mainly poultry. Open fires are allowed, and the shop sells big bundles of seasoned firewood, including kindling, fire starter and matches, at a reasonable price. There were no clear tent pitches as I arrived at the end of a very wet season and the grass had not been cut ... Disliked: The toilet and washing facilities were pretty basic and limited to two showers and a small toilet block. The water in the shower was barely tepid at the time I used it, nor was there any hot water in the sinks in the toilet block. The hand towel in the toilet was rather grubby. |

Liked: that we could build our own campfire Disliked: the noisy ducks, though i got used to them |

Liked: The real countryside feel to the site - and to be able to free-range tent pitch. It was good that we were able to have 'proper' campfires too. Disliked: Seeing big burnt patches where other campers had lit campfires without having turfed the grass first. |
Facebook Twitter Google Plus |
Liked: There was a small group of us 10 in total with 5 tents. Aged from 4 to 50. We camped on the second field opposite the toilets and showers. Disliked: There is a couple of things i disliked. I came on my own from kent to this site, in the evening, it was still light, but I couldnt see the wooden sign for the farm. My friends were alreay there but I couldnt get a signal on my phone, I found a pub inn on the green the landlady let me use her phone to contact my friends, her son then offered to show me ... |

Basic and simple campsite Laura S. (With friends, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Being able to pitch our tent anywhere we liked and next to other friends who were also staying. Disliked: Showers were very hot, too hot to stand under when they were working, they cut out completely if anyone was using the other 2 showers.

Liked: At this particular destination, I loved everything in general terms. The owner of the farm was a very lovely woman, who was kind, and, willing to help in anyway she could. She also sold great fresh duck, eggs and other meat. In addition, her items where greatly priced and worth the money and overall the campsite was perfect. You could pitch up where you wanted and you could have your own fire as well. The ... Disliked: I didn't dislike anything, even the rain all weekend was fun because the campsite was so enjoyable.

not impressed at all tcallashtt (With friends, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: going home Disliked: The fact the grass was not cut on camping field so we got soaking wet feet and trousers. The showers cut each other out as water force was not strong enough. noisy animals in a nearby barn, very smelly ditch right outside discusting portaloos that kept filling up with very smelly water .
From the manager...
Topping the campsite grass is a problem when the site is wet and busy, as the tractor can churn up the field. Also we can also get complaints about loose grass everywhere. |

Two big fields to choose from, I liked the fact that you could freely choose anywhere, the pitches are not allocated so you can go where you want. The kids had a great time! It´s so dark the sky was incredible. Natalie G. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: No allocated plots. Disliked: The price of a small bag of wood and firelighters. Six pounds seemed a bit over-priced!

Basic farm camping, but nice atmosphere Simon N. (Young couple, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Countryside location, away from towns or busy roads. The lack of hard standings or hook-ups means this is a nice relaxed tent-oriented site with a relaxed atmosphere, no loud music or rowdy groups who seem to have bought their entire house with them. Good value for money. Friendly owners. Facilities cleaned regularly. Disliked: Toilets and showers were basic, but not unpleasant. Could have been more and the water could have been warmer. Site became rather muddy, but with the weather we've been having that's not something you can really complain about. Parking was very tricky, again presumably due to the mus making the fields unuseable so everyone parked in the lane.
From the manager...
Thank you- We try hard to keep on top of keeping everything clean but not easy in the wet! as with the fields - but most of you just got on with it that weekend- good for you! |

great suzannepatrick94 (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: We could have a proper campfire! The woods backing on to the field were great for the kids to go exploring. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Clean facilities with soap, toilet roll and towels. Very reasonable prices. Disliked: Not being able to drive the car onto the field as it was too muddy, a circumstance beyond anyone's control!
From the manager...
Thank you- It has been a challenge arrangeing cars off the field!! |
Facebook Twitter Google Plus |
Liked: The simplicity of the site meant it was a authentic camping experience. It had the facilities to cater for the first-timers amongst the group. Disliked: Not much not to like here. I spite of the weather, the site held up well - so don't let the rain put you off!
From the manager...
Thank you- keeping everything up together in the wet is not easy, nice for it to be recognised! |

Disliked: My only comment would be that maybe another female toilet should be concidered as when the changeing rooms were in use there appeared to be more ladies waiting to use the one toilet where as the mens had more cubicules , apart from that ,there wasnt any issues .
From the manager...
