We are Jo, Gill, Zanna, Rob and Donnie Miles and we share this peaceful spot with sheep, horses, pigs, cats and dogs, Braveheart the miniature horse, Rodney the gipsy cob and Norman the donkey. Jo and Gill will look after you during your stay.
Surrounded by woodland on all but one side, Sunninglye has brought its seven Feather Down tents into a shady hilltop copse, with each tent facing outwards, with views across the surrounding fields and woodland. Our guests are always pleasantly surprised by the peacefulness of the setting and the children love the tractor-wheel sandpit and various swings where they can play safely, all dotted between trees.
Seven to eight year olds might like to explore the farm while attempting to conquer the Sunninglye Challenge, which will occupy them for a good couple of hours, taking them round the farm and teaching them about it as they go along. A certificate awaits those that complete it.
After a day spent exploreing, sustenance will be a priority and we offer plenty of help, from frozen home-cooked meals to re-heat on the wood-burning stove, to Jo's celebrated cakes, to the ingredients for pizzas cooked in the bread oven. All of this can be pre-orderd, and some is available ad hoc during your stay. Pets are welcome at Sunninglye provided they are kept under strict control around our livestock.
Nearby attractions and activities
As part of its natural evolution, our family-fun farm on the Kent/Sussex borders is quietly adapting in a way that protects and enhances its wildlife, while still being home to our small flock of sheep that lamb in April.
Near to the pretty copse where the Feather Down tents are located is Rocky Field, home to our naturewatch hideout, where badgers, foxes and deer can be spotted and, further on, where you’ll find our pond for net-fishing, building a raft, or launching the rowboats. This is also the setting for the Brunch Adventure, where you receive the ingredients for a peaceful, filling meal. Beyond is the Brooks, a meadow carpeted with bluebells in spring that’s divided by the upper reaches of the River Teise.
Our farm is set in the High Weald of Kent on the Kent/Sussex borders, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We are just 20 minutes from the M25 and 30 from the coast. Known itself as ‘the garden of England’, this part of Kent is also home to some of the country’s finest gardens, including Penshurst Place and Gardens, and Sissinghurst Castle Garden, which are each within an easy half-hour of Sunninglye.
Right on our doorstep, and renowned for its shopping is the historic spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells. Although there is plenty do to at the farm itself, there is a wealth of relaxing, beautiful places to visit nearby, including Bewl Water reservoir for outdoor education and activity courses, Bedgebury Pinetum and Groombridge Place Gardens and Enchanted Forest – the setting of ‘Pride & Prejudice’ and the keeper of endless magical possibilities for play and discovery.
Sunninglye is a very special place to us, and it has been our much loved home for over 40 years. We hope you’ll accept our invitation to come and enjoy it with us.
