There can’t be many places where you can polish off a full Monty for breakfast, relax over morning coffee and croissants at a French pavement café, and be back home in time for a good old-fashioned afternoon tea... Hawthorn Farm is the closest caravan site to Dover (four miles away), so it’s an ideal stop for those heading over the Channel; but even if you’re not doing any continental cantering about, it’s an enticing place to stay.
There are 28 acres of stunning wooded grounds to explore, with pleasant walks and bunnies and birds galore, and the site is well-positioned for jaunts around Kent and along the coast.
Hawthorn Farm has a small but well-stocked shop, a café, and laundry facilities. A five minute walk brings you to the local village of Martin Mill, which has a decent village pub, as well as a train station with direct links to London.
Nearby attractions and activities
Don’t miss giving Dover a look-over: there’s plenty to see apart from the White Cliffs (and in any case, you’ll get a great view of those as you set off on a day’s jolly to France, Belgium or Holland). Check out historic Dover Castle, with its Roman lighthouse and secret wartime tunnels; the Dover Museum; the Transport Museum; or Crabble Corn Mill, a working Georgian watermill, museum and tearooms - you can buy some of the mill’s own flour or bread mix as an unusual souvenir, and you may even be lucky enough to coincide with one of the annual beer or cider festivals...
The historic landscape around Hawthorn Farm is loaded with castles, with Tudor fortresses just along the coast at Deal and Walmer, and a bit further inland, one of the most breathtaking strongholds in England, Leeds Castle.
Hawthorn Farm is an ideal spot for an active holiday too, with internationally renowned golf courses, a choice of sea or river fishing, horse riding through the glorious Kent countryside, and swimming either from the local beaches or at the leisure centre in Dover.

Liked: The site, the welcome (a 10), the facilities. but have only given a 5 for customer service because of the lack of supervision Disliked: on 8th September the fact that a group of teenagers were allowed on site and partied until the early hours and worse than that were roaming around in the dark prowling around other campers' pitches. I'm not a killjoy but when you have to be up for an early boat....... |

Liked: Hawthorn Farm was lovely, there was enought tent spaces so did not feel cramped. Shower blocks & washing up sinks were very clean. Plenty of hot water also hair dryer. Shop had all the basics you may need. There was plenty of space to walk the dog with plenty of doggy poo bins!! Staff were friendly & polite. We wanted to stay on another night because we were enjoying it so much & the receptionist was lovely and ... Disliked: I did not like the fact that they did not offer freezer blocks for us tent campers who did not have electric for a portable fridge/freezer. Other campsites have a facility where you pay a small fee & swap freezer blocks so you can replace your own to keep your food cool and they re-freeze yours. There was a train track behind the site with trains running from 7.30am to 10.30pm every hour ... |

Liked: I really loves the setting as you wiggle down the lanes off the main roads..very pretty. Staff were friendly and helpful and it was easy to choose our pitch and get set up. I loved the fact that each individual pitch was seperated by a little folage to give a sense of privacy and a boundary for the children. Facilities were plentiful, clean and practical. Loved the camp site!, so much so, already booked to go back next month. Graeme D. (Young couple, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: All of it!! On arrival, the reception staff were warm in their welcome and friendly, with some banter(even blamed us for the rain which had just started!). As they were fairly quiet, we were told we could pitch anywhere we fancied. Disliked: One issue we found was the site is next to train line. However, once the first couple of trains go by, you start not to notice them any more. |
