Campfires allowed
See all facilities…Conveniently positioned between Canterbury and Dover, we offer camping in our paddock (one acre in size) from mid August to early September. The site is located off road (accessible by car), down a bridle way and offers wonderful views over the wooded North Downs. As it is off the road the site is very safe for children who will have plenty of space to play and explore. There are lots of nooks and crannies for building dens and having adventures!
The site is a haven for wildlife and birds and you can be assured of complete peace and quiet. Pheasant Cottage Camping is ideal for walkers, horse riders and cyclists with direct access to miles of footpaths and bridleways.
This is camping the old fashioned way - with water and chemical toilets available. We also allow camp fires in designated places on site. Basic supplies like bread, milk, eggs and bacon are available from the cottage door (just on the other side of the bridleway). The nearest village shops are approximately 2.5 miles away. There are two pubs within 35 minutes' walk or five minutes in the car, both of which do good food at a reasonable price.
As there is livestock in the fields nearby, regrettably we cannot accept dogs. To maintain the peaceful atmosphere and protect the environment, we limit the number of pitches to just six so it is important to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Nearby attractions and activities
The historic sights, shops and restaurants of Canterbury are just five miles away. Visit the cathedral, explore the river by boat or try the Canterbury Tales experience. Howletts Wild Animal Park is only 20 minutes away and provides an enjoyable family day out. There is easy access to the seaside (sandy at Dymchurch and shingle at the old fashioned seaside town of Hythe). Dover Castle is also well worth a visit. For riders, the nearest stables are just a couple of minutes away down in the valley

Liked: We travelled with another family with small children. We had 2 girls aged 8 & 5! Both of how absolutely loved it. Especially the trees that they could climb. We had a very warm welcome and although I have rated the facilities as excellent it's really back to basics. Water point and 2 very clean portaloo type tents. The facility to have a camp fire allowed the girls to have toasted marshmallows. Highly recommend Disliked: Nothing |

Basic, good location, cheap enough but OK. Kimberley T. (Young couple, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: We stayed one night for a camping trip near cycles trails we booked this site the day before on a whim. We cycled to Dover from the site which was about a 50 mile round trip in all following route 17. Some of the hills are tough with 20% gradient. Owner friendly enough and although we didn't take advantage of any of it he said that eggs, bacon, bottle of wine in freezer available ... Disliked: Site is on a hill but that can't really be helped because of the location.
From the manager...
Thank you for taking the time to review. As it is in the North Downs, the site is on sloping ground although some parts are flatter than others. Just to clarify, the supplies we offer (ie eggs bacon, milk) are not included in the camping fee but charged more or less at cost as a convenience to campers. Our 'fridge is always at the disposal of those who want to chill beer or wine ( no charge!) |

Really beautiful helen w. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: A beautiful campsite. Very small - there were only three other tents. Owners were very helpful - first thing they told us was we could put a bottle of wine in their 'fridge if we wanted to. Disliked: What's to dislike?

Directions
From the A2
Travelling From Canterbury
If coming from Canterbury direction, come off A2 at the turning signed Barham, Kingston and Bishopsbourne. Turn right off the slip road and pass under the bridge. Then turn right and immediately left (a staggered junction). The road is signed to Bishopsbourne. *Follow the road straight past the church (on right) and up the hill. Continue for approximately two miles until you come to a T junction leading onto Westwood Road. Turn right and pass the newly restored windmill on your left. Take the first right on sharp bend and then the track to the left of the wrought iron gates. Pheasant Cottage is 50 yards down on the right. Cars can be parked next to your pitch but would advise parking near the entrance if it is wet or likely to be so.
Travelling From Dover
If coming from Dover direction on A2, take Bridge and Barham turning and turn right off the slip road. Continue for about half a mile and then take a left turning, signed to Bishopsbourne. Then follow the directions above from the asterisk*.
