Nearby attractions and activities

One of the attractions of the Isle of Wight is that so much is crammed into a relatively small area, and guests can easily get to all the major sights simply by jumping on a bus outside the park.

Budding zoologists are spoiled for choice: as well as the Owl and Monkey Haven, there are tigers and big cats at the Isle of Wight Zoo, alpacas, penguins and meerkats at the Seaview Wildlife Encounter, and over 200 species on view at the Amazon World Zoo Park. There’s also a donkey sanctuary at Carisbrooke Castle, where visitors can see where King Charles I was banged up (instead of bawling, he went bowling, and you can still play on the very same green).

Historical types should also check out Osbourne House, the seaside palace where Queen Vicky, Bertie and brood used to come to top up their tans, or take a tour of the mosaics and Roman jewellery on display at Brading Roman Villa.

If the sun is shining, the obvious choice is Sandown beach, for sandpies and swimming, followed by dodgems on the pier, or a visit to the animated dinosaurs at Dinosaur Isle. It’s also worth taking a boat trip to see the iconic chalk stacks and lighthouse at the Needles, or going loco on the Havenstreet Steam Railway.

For oohs, aahs and eeks, Blackgang Chine has loads of exciting and eccentric rides and exhibits crammed into 40 acres of Victorian gardens, and there’s a toboggan run, 3D maze and more rollercoasters at its sister theme park, Robins Hill.

If it’s raining, Dad could be dispatched to Ryde to take the kids ice-skating or bowling, while Mum pays a visit to the jewellery collection at Isle of Wight Pearl (and maybe comes home with a piece made from the contents of an oyster that she personally plucked from the “Pick a Pearl” pool...).

Liked: Whitecliff bay is a lovely location. We camped for 2 weeks, the campsite was at full capacity. Unfortunately there were problems with noise (up to 2am) and cleanliness of toilets, which could have been resolved with increased staff. However, the site offers (across a road) many activities including an outdoor evening film show in a beautiful setting.

Disliked: Unfortunately the toilets / showers were dirty and no management of the site at night, led to late night parties - which did have a negative impact on our holiday experience. However, this may have just been whilst we were there, the site itself has plenty of potential.

Cancellation policy

As soon as you know you need to cancel, call the Holidays Hotline using the number in your confirmation email and confirm the cancellation in writing. The letter must be signed (where possible) by the person who made the booking. If you have not taken out our cancellation plan (available on request when your balance is paid), cancellation charges are calculated as follows from the date your written instructions are received:

43-55 days 30% of holiday cost*
29-42 days 50% of holiday cost*
8-28 days 90% of holiday cost*
7 days or less 100% of holiday cost*
* and Ferry and Cancellation Plan Premiums

If you have not arrived by 9am on the morning after your break was due to commence or contacted the Park concerned to confirm when you will arrive, we will assume that the break is cancelled and the total holiday cost including the cancellation plan and insurance premiums will be forfeited.

It may be necessary to cancel your holiday due to illness, accident or change of circumstances. If you have taken out our cancellation plan, payments arising from cancellation may be covered as detailed below:

Park Cancellation Plan

The Park Cancellation Plan is designed to protect guests from payments made towards the holiday cost, in the event that they are forced to cancel their holiday on the Park. It is strongly recommended on all holidays where the total holiday cost exceeds £30. The cost of the Plan is £4 per person (self catering) and £2 per person (caravan and camping), per booking regardless of age.

Holidays with a total cost of less than £30 are not covered under this scheme and refunds in respect of these holidays cannot be made. The scheme covers holiday cancellation only. Guests are advised to arrange their own insurance cover for personal possessions, vehicle breakdown, emergency expenses, medical expenses etc. Refunds under the scheme will be made in respect of cancellations provided the following conditions are met: Notification of cancellation is made immediately and in any case before the date of arrival and confirmed in writing. A doctor’s medical certificate or other evidence is provided to show that the cancellation was unavoidable. Only members of the party specified and their immediate families are covered. The cancellation must relate to actual and certified illness, death or accidental injury, jury service, court of law witness summons and, provided the person is over 21 years of age, redundancy.

Please note that your deposit paid to Pitchup.com is non-refundable.

Payment of balance

Whitecliff Bay will send an additional confirmation by email with the balance due on the holiday and date payable. Your balance is due eight weeks before arrival, or as soon as possible after the booking has been made if arrival is for within eight weeks.
