St Albans, Hertfordshire’s only city, has been welcoming visitors from far afield for over 2,000 years. The cathedral still dominates the skyline of the city and is best known for the shrine of St Alban and its medieval wall paintings. Beyond the cathedral you can relax in the green oasis of Verulamium Park, 100 acres of tranquil parkland close to the heart of the city and see the architectural heritage of St Michael's village and Fishpool Street.
- Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Albans
- The de Havilland aircraft heritage
- Roman theatre
- Willow farm village
St Albans is rich in heritage and tradition, evidence of which can be found down every street and arcade. Stop and look up at medieval windows, doorways and timber-framed buildings.
The busy city centre market on Wednesdays and Saturdays is one of the largest in the south-east of England, with 160 stalls. Established over 1000 years ago, the colourful street market extends through the heart of St Albans, offering an enormous variety of products from foodstuffs, flowers, gifts, clothes and souvenirs to crafts and more unusual items.
Don't miss the farmers' market on the second Sunday of the calendar month and the regular continental markets, which offer goods and produce from various European countries.

Best place I've been to for a long time Julie_Heather (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: On arrival i was greeted and shown various lovely spots by the owner all close to the stream where we could pitch our tents ( this is a first). She then showed me and the kids around the campsite and even offered to have her husband cut some wood for the camp-fire that we were planning to have in the evening. Her husband was a lovely chap who helped us unload all our gear from the ... Disliked: I really cant say that i disliked a thing about this place. |

In response to this review which I think is important to address - the campers did show at the end of the season. Possibilities of openfire?? – the campers were shown the allocated areas for the open fires and as they could not start a fire, owner provided them with a instant firelog (for free) In addition, as the campers had a child, the owner went over to the woods, cut some logs and brought them over so that they would enjoy their evening around a campfire. The previous reviews say that the campsite grounds are better than a golf course, so naturally if cars were to drive across the campsite, the reviews would change to camping in a muddy field. The car park is located 400 feet away from the furthest spot (which is the best spot – where the campers wanted to stay) however, there are camping spots available next to the carpark area and yes.. there is another open fire allocated area here as well. Campers have a clear view of the sky at night time, you have large open fire areas, Surrounded by woodland, campsite is within a private estate (and not just on a field) – so good security, St Albans is a really vibrant city offering so many things to do, 5 mintues drive to the M25, M1, A1, owner moves all the campers gear over to the area they choose to stay and even asks if they need a hand to put up their tents, its advertised as wild camping even though you have access to bathrooms, showers, kitchen with microwave… and some people are still not happy. Yes, the M25 is half a mile away and because sound travels at night, the campers can hear it. However, Really???…. How many cars use the M25 at night? Price… Please feel free to use one of the other campsites – I really pity their review lol.. |

the campsite was like a manicured golf course and we almost felt guilty putting the pegs in but the owner josh could not have been more hospitable and made us feel extremely welcome and his olympic sized breakfasts were legendary. quiet, spacious, clean, friendly tolcser (Young couple, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: The owner of the place is just awesome. He helps you out with anything you need, even gives you a lift to town and guides you around. The campsite is simple but amazing. There is a huge grassy area, plenty of space and firewoods in the forest. :) Disliked: Some sort of water facility near the tents would be good and a bench around the fireplace would be handy. :o)
