Steeple Bay Holiday Park
FavouriteIt’s hard to believe that Steeple Bay Holiday Park is just an hour from London; this tucked-away corner of the Essex coast feels wonderfully remote, with its far-reaching watery vistas and sleepy backwaters that teem with birds. Indeed, guests here can congratulate themselves on having impeccable taste: the seclusion of this spot makes it a firm favourite with the rich and famous, who can sometimes be spotted touching down in their helicopters for a stay on Osea Island, just across the estuary of the River Blackwater. Take a boat out from Steeple Bay’s slipway and who knows who you might bump into as you navigate the peaceful creeks surrounding the site...
Steeple Bay Holiday Park has a good-sized, heated outdoor pool - with a separate splash pool for those still sporting armbands - and the pretty grounds contain some great spots for fishing, a children’s playground and a sports field (ideal for working off any excesses in the café and Riverside Bar). As it’s a Park Holidays site, Steeple Bay guests also benefit from a fun selection of activities for children in the “Loopy Club”; the kids’ shows and competitions run into the early evening, and thereafter you’ll find bingo, live music and more in the clubhouse during the holiday season. There’s also an amusements arcade for rainy days.
What about the basics? You’ll find good showers and loos, a sheltered washing-up area, a launderette, small shop and free wifi in the clubhouse.
Nearby attractions and activities
Nearby Maldon is an attractive medieval market town where one of the highlights is Promenade Park, with its free splash park, zipwire, sandpits and pirate galleon, perfect for keeping the kids entertained for a few hours.
Alternatively, there are days out around and about to suit all tastes: cruise along the River Blackwater aboard a traditional Thames barge; sample the plonk at the local vineyards; uncover the area’s rich and diverse history via the many local heritage centres and museums; wander around the winsome Witham gardens, or the show-stopping Royal Horticultural Society Garden at Hyde Hall; or hit the zoo in Colchester, also home to a fantastic new contemporary art gallery, a castle and a museum.
Chelmsford Miniature Railway - The Chelmsford Miniature Railway in Essex offers rides to the public every Sunday between the end of April and the end of September, including special Open Days. A variety of steam and diesel engines are used throughout the season.

Won't be visiting again Joanna B. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: I Have to say our 8 year old daughter really enjoyed our stay at Steeple bay she loved the kids club, the pool, the play ground Loopy and George. The kids club was ''fantastic'' with plenty of activities for the children.( if you have children aged under 6 you will need to stay with them to help out with the craft projects because of the need to use scissors and glue.) 10:30 am - 12 ... Disliked: The whole unkempt appearance of the touring area. The Showers were really difficult to operate and there are only 2 showers and 1 of those was so cramped you could not get yourself and a child in it. This was a real problem over the weekend with queues and the cleanliness due in most part to over use and no way to clean up.I had to ask at reception for the cleaners to go ... |

Laid-back, stress-free camping! Conrad B. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: The clear signs directing you to the various facilities. We arrived long after the main reception closed but the bar staff provided us with our welcome pack, map and tent label and told us to pitch up anywhere we wanted on the tent field! Did'nt really get to use any of the facilities as we were only stopping for one night, but the pool looked clean, the outside play area was full of kids ... Disliked: The nearest toilets to the tent field were horrible - I know you can't expect much when your camping but I've seen better festival port-a-loo's! The floors were constantly drenched from the showers (I hope) and there was barely any paper - this was just the men's; my partner said the womens were worse! It's a shame they were so bad, as the rest of the park seems so well organised and ...
From the manager...
