Woods, wildlife and the winsome river Wyre: this serene country setting is ideal for anyone with a horror of rowdy campsites (Wyreside Lakes Fishery welcomes families and responsible adult couples only).
Pitch your tent in the verdant fields and sit back to enjoy the beauty of your surroundings. After a spot of carp or coarse fishing at one of the on-site lakes, you can hang up your rod to compare tall tales in the Fisherman’s Rest over some home-cooked grub (weekends only outside of school hols). The clubhouse also welcomes children, provided they’re accompanied, and there’s evening entertainment at peak times.
Aside from the games room and outdoor playground, woodland adventures will the main attraction for mini campers, although the unfettered access to the riverbank means close supervision is required. The essential amenities are good, with disabled provision and baby-change facilities, and there’s a shop for vittles, camping and fishing essentials, and a launderette.
Onsite fishing prices start at £8 (equipment not included) for a full day's coarse fishing on one rod. Carp fishing is also available.
Nearby attractions and activities
The area caters to a diversity of sporting tastes, from golf to quad biking. There are swimming baths five minutes away in Garstang, or you could trot over to the Bay Horse School Of Equitation for some pony trekking, or pay a visit to the Salt Ayre Sports Centre, which has a large pool, gym and various indoor sports and exercise classes. Morecambe has a bowling alley and laser gaming, too.
With easy access to the M6 and A6, it’s a doddle to get to some of the North’s most popular places. Ten minutes away are the cobbled streets of the historic university city of Lancaster, with its castle prison and maritime museum, plus interesting shopping, watering holes and eateries, a cinema and more. Follow in Eric’s footsteps in Morecambe Bay (there’s a statue of the comic on the seafront) - if he brings you sunshine, you can hit the beach; if not, check out the newly restored art deco splendour of the Midland Hotel. Also within easy reach are the glorious landscapes of the Lake District, seaside frolics in Blackpool, walking and wildlife in the beautiful Forest of Bowland, and the picture perfect Wensleydale town of Hawes (say “cheese”...)

Liked: The views which are lovely. Toilets/showers are very clean. Onsite shop which is good if you run out of essentials. Had a bar/restaurant which is great if it rains and you are struggling to get food cooked. Small park for young children.
