What a stunner… Hall Carleton Farm is a family site set on a working farm on the Irish Sea coast of Cumbria in the Lake District National Park – and with spectacular views across the fells from the farm and an orchard facing west towards the dunes on Drigg beach. This is a peaceful spot, around a mile from the village of Holmrook, a couple of miles from the sea at Drigg, and with direct access to Hadrian's Cycleway or National Route 72, 174 miles of trail running alongside the entire Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site. The coast path passes by the site enroute to Ravenglass, Holmrook and Drigg; fishing on the River Irt, swimming and boating at Wastwater and climbing at Great Gable and Scafell Pike are within easy day trip distance too. Amenities include a water tap, a chemical disposal point, a private shower room with electric shower, sink and toilet, and an additional toilet and basin. Three pubs are in Ravenglass, five minutes' drive away.

Local attractions

Bring your bike and set forth to conquer as much of Hadrian's Cycleway as you can possibly manage: this splendid route takes in Roman forts and spectacular coastal scenery, small villages and busy market towns, mainly on quiet roads or country lanes. Start from the site to access the 34.8-mile run from Ravenglass to Maryport, passing Glannaventa Roman Bath House, Ravenglass, Saltcoates, Holmrook, Drigg and Seascale. Not up for pedalling quite so far? Take the bike – or car – for a day in the handsome coastal village of Ravenglass, to to take the kids to the play park or pootle around the harbour and Muncaster Castle and gardens. Or make for the beaches at Drigg or Seascale, two and a half and five and a half miles respectively from the farm and both reachable by bike, car or on foot. Other famed Lake District activities and attractions are within easy driving distance, like Wastwater lake (20 minutes' drive), hikes from Eskdale (25 minutes), or climbing at Great Gable and Scafell Pike, 35 minutes away. And if you like your sightseeing with the minimum of effort? Hail the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway steam train for a scenic chuff through the Cumbrian countryside and Eskdale valley from Ravenglass to Dalegarth.
