  • Small touring park less than five minutes' drive from Seahouses
  • A five-minute drive from Bamburgh Castle and 20 from Dunstanburgh
  • Spacious farmland site where dogs, families and barbecues are welcome
Breathe easy on a break spent at Westfield Paddock Caravan Site, a small, privately owned and peaceful touring park for those with on-board facilities. On the edge of the gorgeous Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the family-run park is surrounded by gorgeous farmland with lovely views, and it's family-friendly too. Dogs are also welcome as long as they’re well behaved; an enclosed paddock is next to the pitches where they can scamper about off lead. Other strolls include one towards the village of Seahouses about a mile away for a chip supper, although you can also stay well fed and watered with the assistance of the pubs and restaurants within the local area. Food shops are within easy reach when you're foraging for yourself, and barbecues are permitted at the park. Set the grill up at your pitch then head over to the service area to sort errands with amenities including chemical waste disposal, a water tap and rubbish and recycling facilities. Also on site is a handy information caravan stacked with leaflets to help you decide on days out – which might include wildlife-spotting boat trips to the Farne Islands, a round of sea-view golf or outings to the stunning coastal castles at Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh… Bringing bikes along (or hiring locally) is a fine idea too – the area’s well served for bike paths, and the Sustrans Coast and Castles South route passes by the park.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: The really Honest professional customer service, explained why our pitch was no longer available. Offered a full refund but as we were visiting family that wasn't an option. Carol arranged another site which turned out to be nearer to where we needed to be. Definitely would book again going to be a really great site once the new owners have settled in

Disliked: Site could do with one spare hard standing pitch for emergency so pitches don't have to be cancel

Liked: Because of heavy rain the site was flooded but the owner quickly texted us before we arrived and transferred us to Seafield Caravan Park in Seahouses. Excellent and well done for looking after us so well😊

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Location but that was all

Disliked: Absolute nightmare this was nothing but a muddy field for a few gravel patches patches to pass as a hard standing. Not fit for purpose at all van sinking in mud when driving in and trying to get onto the pitch both sides of hard standing was just a mud bath so soon as you get out you in a led bath. Tried to contact owners who have ignored me

From the manager: Hello Stu Thank you for you review although feel we must respond to some of your facts as they are incorrect. You booked a 'Fully serviced grass and gravel touring pitch' which is exactly what you were on, obviously there is was a grass short drive to get on to the pitch and due to the horrendous weather the UK has been experiencing recently, there is rain water around the park and mud. The hard standing you refer to is this the grass and gravel pitch you booked? As for 1 star for Wifi , child friendliness, cleanliness, facilities and activities, we feel this is totally unjustified, the park is situated in an AONB, what is there not for families, children and adults alike not to enjoy? A beach within less than a 1 mile walk, surfing, castles, swimming pool, spa , steam room all on your doorstep within 1 mile?? Accommodation as a 1 star also, it was your own accommodation you were stay in? Confusing?

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Loved the clean site and hard standing pitch.

Disliked: Lack of toilets and showers. But as a new site it’s ok. Also noisy, inconsiderate other campers playing loud music at 8am on Sunday morning. Hard standings a little too hard for awning pegs!

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: The location, some of the pitches had privacy hedges! A thoughtful dog walking area, fenced off on the hedge of the site, good approach road, short walk into Seahouses, best CL in the area in my opinion.

Disliked: Not having a we, we knew this when booked but think if they added this it would outrank any cl for miles around!

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Sunny weather so our all grass pitch didn’t turn into a mud bath

Disliked: Booked a gravel and grass pitch 11 months in advance but when arrived at site we had been allocated an all grass pitch. Even though there were two empty gravel and grass pitches the owner was adamant that we had to have the all grass pitch. She said the gravel and grass pitches were being kept for two larger caravans that were arriving next day. All pitches on the site were the same size so we suggested that one of those caravans could have the all grass pitch and we could have the gravel and grass pitch. The owner said in her terms and conditions there was no guarantee to pitch type allocation but she gave us 3 options 1) a full refund and we could go elsewhere ( it was 4.30pm on Sunday and we had travelled 7 hrs getting to site from home so obviously didn’t want to set to and look for somewhere else!) 2) To move to one of the gravel pitches after the larger caravans had left as they were only staying 2 nights. 3) Put up with the all grass pitch. We reluctantly chose this option. After about 45minutes when we had set up our caravan on the all grass pitch the owner phoned us and said she had juggled the future bookings around and we could now have the gravel and grass pitch!!!! We were tired from our journey and the last thing we then wanted to do was relocate onto a different pitch! We prefer and always book gravel or hard standing pitches. We don’t like the idea of muddy grass if it rains and as we don’t have an awning we have no where to put muddy shoes. Luckily we had a dry sunny week. So be warned- if you prefer a gravel and grass pitch because you don’t want all grass don’t book this site as there is no guarantee what pitch type you get.

From the manager: So here is the "bad" review we were threatened with when unfortunately we were unable to immediately swap pitches around. The two referred to were available for 1 night before they were booked off for others arriving - The reviewer, staying 7 nights, told us they weren't prepared to move pitches during the stay to achieve what they wanted, so it took some time to work out if we could re-jig other forward bookings taking into consideration lengths of stay, sizes of vans etc, to facilitate a 7 night stay on one of the other pitches. This guest arrived 3rd September and it took moving others staying upto and including 20th September to facilitate a pitch move for their full stay. When offered the change about an hour after they arrived, they declined - thankfully we hadn't actually made the changes on the booking system - What a waste of an hour working it out and an hour actually doing it that would have been. Anyway with dry weather seems the review didn't have much to worry about. By the way our site terms and conditions which are sent when we confirm the Pitch Up notification, state that hardstandings are not guaranteed, Just incase future visitors were wondering we have grass and gravel pitches - Pitch up has pre-templated pitch descriptions and we use "grass and gravel pitch" as the closest to our sites' facilities.

Local attractions

Stick around Seahouses for the golf club, horse riding and afternoons at the spa, or set off for sandy times on North Sunderland’s shores (all about five minutes’ drive). Wildlife-spotting boat trips to the Farne Islands leave from the village, with chances to peer at puffins, seals and dolphins during the tour. Bamburgh Castle’s about the same distance from the park as Seahouses, and a beachside walking road from the site means it’s possible to reach it with a ramble of around three miles. More golf, with views across the coast, is to be had at Bamburgh Castle Golf Club (5 minutes’ drive); alternatively, continue explorations of stately structures at Dunstanburgh Castle – another beachside fortification dating back to the 14th century – and Alnwick Castle (under 25 minutes away). Alternatively, take trips to the historic Etal Estate (yet another stunning structure in the area) and take a ride on the most northerly narrow-gauge steam train in England, the Heatherslaw Light Railway (35 minutes’ drive).
