Robin Hood Caravan and Camping Park

Set in prime north Yorkshire countryside on the outskirts of the pretty village of Slingsby, Robin Hood Caravan and Camping Park is a pretty, family-run site with a good range of essential amenities. There’s a clean and cosy toilet and shower block with hairdryers and shaving points, plus a licensed shop, laundrette, and a pleasant children’s play area.

The site offers both hardstanding and grass pitches for caravans and motorhomes, and the spacious, unregimented grassy area for tents means that campers can choose freely where to pitch, according to whether they prefer flat or sloping ground, shelter or open space.

Nearby attractions and activities

This is an ideal base from which to explore the lush landscapes of Yorkshire, from the Wolds to the Moors. It’s also dead easy to get to the dramatic Yorkshire coastline and the resorts of Scarborough, Filey and Whitby, which all offer lots to see and do.

For ramblers and cyclists, the Cleveland Way and Wolds Way both pass nearby, and there is astonishingly diverse territory to explore, from wild moorland to dense forest, with plenty of lovely villages (and excellent pubs) in between.

Harry Potter fans and locomotive lovers alike will enjoy a trip aboard the The North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which chuffs its way across 18 miles of lovely scenery and includes a stop at Goathland, the terminus for the Hogwarts Express.

Fifteen miles away is the beautiful ancient city of York, where visitors can yomp around the city walls, be humbled by the majesty of the Minster, or take in one of the myriad museums and attractions. The National Railway Museum and Castle Museum are both highly recommended, and bloodthirsty bairns will enjoy York Dungeons and the growling Vikings in the reconstructions at the brilliant Jorvik Viking Centre. The quaint streets are jam-packed with tea rooms, restaurants, bars and interesting independent shops: try Stonegate, Swinegate and the medieval Shambles for the best of the shopping.

The breathtakingly beautiful Castle Howard is very close by: take in the eighteenth century architecture and interiors, roam around the gardens, woods and lakes, and keep the kids amused with a boat trip or a romp around the adventure playground. The packed events programme includes regular arts, crafts and produce markets, concerts and themed weekends.

Also nearby are the Eden Camp World War II museum, Flamingoland adventure park and zoo, Dalby Forest and the treetop adventures of Go Ape.

Liked: Friendly welcome.

Clean and warm shower and toilet block (lots of reviews said these were a long way from the tent pitches, but I can't understand that as it was only a couple of minutes walk along a flat path).

Great pub within five minutes walk, serving great food and beer.

Even on a hot bank holiday weekend, the site was clean, quiet and well maintained.

Easy travelling distance from loads of things to ...

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: Electricity

Disliked: The toilets are next to the static caravans where the tents have to walk 2 fields to get to toilet through the next it was pitch black. Our youngest child luckily was 13 but they were still terrified to walk the distantance to the toilet block from 9pm without an adult with them

Many Thanks for your comments. The toilet blocks are a 4 minute walk away from the tent area - as stated in many reviews of the park. Sadly, at present this is something we are unable to overcome due to planning regulations. There is low level lighting on the driveway to and from those facilities, the area around the shower block is well lit and both fields that have electric in them are lit. Having said that, we would expect parents with small children to accompany their children to the toilet block no matter what time of day or night.

If you would like to discuss my comments further I happy to do this by phone or by email.

Liked: The pitch was clean and spacious. We didn't feel on top of other campers. The showers and toilet facilities were very clean which is always a plus. The owners were very friendly and helpful and site is situated in a lovely little village just a short drive from castle Howard.
There is also a little play area for the children, which is clean and well maintained.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike really apart from the weather !!!!

Many Thanks for taking the time to review our park.

The Grapes Inn, Slingsby was opened under new ownership on 17th August. The pub is within walking distance from the park on Railway Street, Slingsby. I'm sorry you seem to have been unable to find it. Other pubs in the local area include The Blacksmiths Arms - Swinton, The Malt Shovel - Hovingham, Cresswell Arms - Appleton-le-Street and The Queens Head - Amotherby.

I do hope you will visit us again one day so you are able to visit one of the many pubs in our area.

Liked: Clean site, and toilet block. Friendly and helpful people running it. In a good location, nice pub in the village. The pitches were holding up remarkably well considering the amount of rain. Nice play ground for the kids.

Disliked: Overflowing bins (I know they're collected on a Monday and I stayed on a Bank holiday, but would it hurt to have a few more to stop this?) The entire site appears to be backwards, i.e. to get to reception you have to go right through the camp, and the shower/toilet/washing up facilities are in the mobile home area with the tents being furthest away. Just minor quibbles really.

Many Thanks for taking the time to review the park for us and for future guests.

I'm sorry that you found the bins to be overflowing during your stay with us as we put several plans into operation to stop this from happening. Firstly, we arranged for extra collections with our local council so they were emptied on the Friday afternoon prior to your arrival. Secondly, we were able to bring a skip onto the park (out of visitors view to reduce the visual impact) and so any bags that were left beside the bin were moved every one to two hours and thirdly on the day of departure all campers were given a black bin liner with instructions on where to leave their waste.

We had hoped this had been a success as we received no complaints of overflowing bins over the weekend. It is something we will continue to look at. If you have any suggestions I am happy to discuss this by phone or by email.
