Set in prime north Yorkshire countryside on the outskirts of the pretty village of Slingsby, Robin Hood Caravan and Camping Park is a pretty, family-run site with a good range of essential amenities. There’s a clean and cosy toilet and shower block with hairdryers and shaving points, plus a licensed shop, laundrette, and a pleasant children’s play area.
The site offers both hardstanding and grass pitches for caravans and motorhomes, and the spacious, unregimented grassy area for tents means that campers can choose freely where to plonk their pegs, according to whether they prefer flat or sloping ground, shelter or open space.
Nearby attractions and activities
This is an ideal base from which to explore the lush landscapes of Yorkshire, from the Wolds to the Moors. It’s also dead easy to get to the dramatic Yorkshire coastline and the resorts of Scarborough, Filey and Whitby, which all offer lots to see and do.
For ramblers and cyclists, the Cleveland Way and Wolds Way both pass nearby, and there is astonishingly diverse territory to explore, from wild moorland to dense forest, with plenty of delightful villages (and excellent pubs) in between.
Harry Potter fans and locomotive lovers alike will enjoy a trip aboard the The North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which chuffs its way across 18 miles of lovely scenery, including a stop at Goathland, the terminus for the Hogwarts Express.
Fifteen miles away is the beautiful ancient city of York, where visitors can yomp around the city walls, be humbled by the majesty of the Minster, or take in one of the myriad museums and attractions. The National Railway Museum and Castle Museum are both highly recommended, and bloodthirsty bairns will enjoy York Dungeons and the growling Vikings in the reconstructions at the brilliant Jorvik Viking Centre. The quaint streets are jam-packed with tea rooms, restaurants, bars and interesting independent shops: try Stonegate, Swinegate and the medieval Shambles for the best of the shopping.
The breathtakingly beautiful Castle Howard is very close by: take in the eighteenth century architecture and interiors, roam around the gardens, woods and lakes, and keep the kids amused with a boat trip or a romp around the adventure playground. The packed events programme includes regular arts, crafts and produce markets, concerts and themed weekends.
Also nearby are the Eden Camp World War II museum, Flamingoland adventure park and zoo, Dalby Forest and the treetop adventures of Go Ape.

Liked: It was the first trip out this year and found the site great for us the showers and toilet block very clean and the owners very friendly ,will be going again when the weather is a bit warmer . Disliked: nothing |
Facebook Twitter Google Plus |
Liked: Electricity Disliked: The toilets are next to the static caravans where the tents have to walk 2 fields to get to toilet through the next it was pitch black. Our youngest child luckily was 13 but they were still terrified to walk the distantance to the toilet block from 9pm without an adult with them
From the manager...
Many Thanks for your comments. The toilet blocks are a 4 minute walk away from the tent area - as stated in many reviews of the park. Sadly, at present this is something we are unable to overcome due to planning regulations. There is low level lighting on the driveway to and from those facilities, the area around the shower block is well lit and both fields that have electric in them are lit. Having said that, we would expect parents with small children to accompany their children to the toilet block no matter what time of day or night. If you would like to discuss my comments further I happy to do this by phone or by email. |

Overall a great campsite. Very clean and friendly Melanie R. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: The pitch was clean and spacious. We didn't feel on top of other campers. The showers and toilet facilities were very clean which is always a plus. The owners were very friendly and helpful and site is situated in a lovely little village just a short drive from castle Howard. Disliked: Nothing to dislike really apart from the weather !!!!
From the manager...
Thanks very much for the comments. I'm really sorry the weather wasn't great during your stay. We had booked it in advance especially for you but it's delivery was delayed :-). Hopefully we will get some great weather next time you visit us. |

Liked: Clean and spacious. Disliked: Not really near any pubs as stated.
From the manager...
Many Thanks for taking the time to review our park. The Grapes Inn, Slingsby was opened under new ownership on 17th August. The pub is within walking distance from the park on Railway Street, Slingsby. I'm sorry you seem to have been unable to find it. Other pubs in the local area include The Blacksmiths Arms - Swinton, The Malt Shovel - Hovingham, Cresswell Arms - Appleton-le-Street and The Queens Head - Amotherby. I do hope you will visit us again one day so you are able to visit one of the many pubs in our area. |

Nice site in a nice village. richardcowlishaw3 (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Clean site, and toilet block. Friendly and helpful people running it. In a good location, nice pub in the village. The pitches were holding up remarkably well considering the amount of rain. Nice play ground for the kids. Disliked: Overflowing bins (I know they're collected on a Monday and I stayed on a Bank holiday, but would it hurt to have a few more to stop this?) The entire site appears to be backwards, i.e. to get to reception you have to go right through the camp, and the shower/toilet/washing up facilities are in the mobile home area with the tents being furthest away. Just minor quibbles really.
From the manager...
Many Thanks for taking the time to review the park for us and for future guests. I'm sorry that you found the bins to be overflowing during your stay with us as we put several plans into operation to stop this from happening. Firstly, we arranged for extra collections with our local council so they were emptied on the Friday afternoon prior to your arrival. Secondly, we were able to bring a skip onto the park (out of visitors view to reduce the visual impact) and so any bags that were left beside the bin were moved every one to two hours and thirdly on the day of departure all campers were given a black bin liner with instructions on where to leave their waste. We had hoped this had been a success as we received no complaints of overflowing bins over the weekend. It is something we will continue to look at. If you have any suggestions I am happy to discuss this by phone or by email. |

Friendly site. Enjoyed our week long stay. Louise P. (Extended family, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Location was good. 10 mins from town. Easy access to most major routes from York, to Scarborough and surrounding area. Plenty to do within 1 hour travelling distance. It was clean and well kept. Although facilities were furthest from tent area they were kept clean and there was no shortage of hot water, loo rolls etc.. .Play area was great for kids. Owners patrolled site regularly to ensure no rowdy/ late night disturbances. Staff always ... Disliked: Only one facilities area. Could have done with being more central to site as was closest to static vans than tent area. (Area contained 2 washing up sinks, mens, womens and disabled shower/ loo block. Chemical toilet disposal area.) Please be aware this is a small site and facilities were sufficient during our time there- though I suspect when the site was fully booked the que for the use of facilities would have been fairly ...
From the manager...
Thanks for your review Louise. I'm really glad you enjoyed your stay with us despite the torrential downpours you had to endure whilst you were here. We were actually fully booked for two of the nights you stayed with us so glad to hear you didn't see any queues as you suspect you may. Hope to see you all again another time. |

just back from our third visit this year WHAT A CAMPSITE!!!! ianthompson3954 (Extended family, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: Been to this campsite about six times in all just returned from our third visit this year cannot fault this campsite in any way we always stay on the top field with electric hook up,, i agree with some campers that it is near a main road but after about a hour or two you tend not to notice the noise of the traffic (not that bad actually). The camp in my opinion is managed ... Disliked: not really a dislike but a fair walk to toilet block if you are in top field
From the manager...
Thanks very much for your great comments Ian - we hope to see you again once you've survived Benidorm ;-) As someone that always wants to go into the top field the walk obviously doesn't put you off! |

Ideal location for the Proms Willoughby (With friends, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: - Walking distance to Castle Howard Disliked: - Would have been nice to walk to somewhere that served food
From the manager...
Thanks very much for your comments. The Proms is always a great weekend for visiting - some guests have been visiting us for the same weekend for the last 10 years. With regards wanting somewhere close that served food you will be glad to know that The Grapes has now reopened and will be serving food as soon as possible. We also had The Pizza Farm onsite the night before the Proms so this may be something to look out for when you stay again. Hope to see you again at next year's Proms if not before. |

Not very impressed at all Helen W. (Family with older children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Leaving so that I could find a useable loo! Disliked: The filthy toilets & showers. On the Sunday & Monday they were not in fit state to use - disgusting.
From the manager...
Thanks for taking the time to comment Helen. Sadly you didn't make any comments about the toilets whilst you were actually staying with us as I would have liked to have seen them in the disgusting state you remark upon. Had they been as described we would have taken immediate action within the facilities themselves and against the member of staff responsible for cleaning them. Unfortuantely, by letting us know via a review a couple of weeks after you stayed we haven't the opportunity to do so. |
Facebook Twitter Google Plus |
Liked: Spacious pitches Disliked: All bins were overflowing.
From the manager...
Many Thanks for your comments. All bins were emptied by our local council at 6am on Monday so they did look full on Sunday afternoon. We were also able to disperse rubbish from the tent area into other bins around the park. |

Generally OK but don't think we'll be going back Jonathan G. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Good location well suited for general site seeing in this area. Disliked: The main camping field is adjacent to the B1257 and the sound of trucks thundering by is a little annoying.
From the manager...
Many thanks for your review. If I could address some of the points raised: We live in the house onsite so there are managers/wardens here 24/7. Quiet time is 11pm and this is strictly enforced as we, personally, walk around the site from 10pm - midnight checking that this is being adhered to. The computers were dumped by guests! Thankfully another guest witnessed them doing it so we have been in touch with those guests about their "waste" The bins are emptied by our local council at 6am on Monday morning so they are often very full on a Sunday - we do disperse rubbish around other bins to make sure that none of them are overflowing. The Grapes Inn, Slingsby will reopen on Friday 17th August and we are assured that food will be served. There is also a Sports Club in the village which is open each night serving drinks. We also have a list of other local of pubs/restaurants in reception - some of whom offer discounts to our guests. If you would like to discuss any of the points raised I would be happy to do so. Please contact me by phone or email |

top place, not too far to feel isolated, far enough for tranquility sh6437 (Family with young children, 2 reviews, 0 photos)
Liked: very good site for kids (especailly those with scooters) nice and clean, tidy and with some interesting environmental features. Disliked: nothing, except for the muddy patch by caravan 10..
From the manager...
Many Thanks for your comments. Happy to say that the rain seems to have stopped for now so the muddy patch by caravan 10 has dried up. Having seen the way some parks were affected by the recent torrential downpours I am happy to say that small patch of mud was the only way in which we were affected. |

Electric hook up pitch Sara W. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: The spaces of the pitches, the playpark & that we were allowed to have the rest of the party of friends side by side. Disliked: That the toilet & washing facilites were so far away, not good when you have young children.
From the manager...
Many Thanks for your comments. As I have responded in the past, the toilets are a 5 minute walk away from the top of the tent field. We do ask that guests pick their own pitch within a given area so guests can chose how close they are to the facilities. |

Liked: the camp site was set out every good, toilet block was very good, camp was clean and tidy Disliked: we loaded the satnav with the postcode which took us to the exit of the camp this was not very well sign posted for Robin Hood camp it. Hoping for a quiet afternoon the RAF had numerous fly pasts accompanied by the helicopters jointing in and the gardeners decided to cut the grass it was noisy to say the least.
From the manager...
I'm sorry that your sat nav advised you to go to the wrong entrance. We are aware that satnavs do take guests in the wrong direction hence our warnings on this website and others. We do also have a clear set of directions on the PitchUp.com website, our own website and in our brochure advising you to go to the main entrance. Clear signposts around the village also point guests in the direction of our main entrance/exit. The rear entrance is for private access only hence no signposts. As much as we would like, unfortunately we are not in control of the RAF flight/practise schedules. I might mention that this is a rare occurrence and has never been mentioned in other reviews on this website or others. We are however in control of our grass cutting, which is scheduled to be done mid week – never before 10am or after 4pm - thereby minimizing disturbance for guests. Obviously this has to be done to maintain our high standards of tidiness which you commented positively on. If you would like to discuss any of the points raised I would be happy to do so. Please contact me by phone or email. |

Stayed for 2 nights over Easter bank holiday. penny-chatfield (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: The site has a very pleasant atmosphere with small shop on site and shower/toilet block which was more than adequate for us. The layout meant that we were in the top field with our tent and so a bit further away from these amenities but this was no big deal. There is a childrens play area and more than enough open space for the kids to run around in.We were only one of ... Disliked: The site is very close to the B1257 Malton road and as we were in the field nearest to the road it was at times very noisy!! That is really the only down side.
From the manager...
Thank you very much for your comments. |

Liked: The location was great, close to Castle Howard and York. The Malt Shovel Pub in Hoveringham is also worth a visit, the food and service are excellent. the facillities were clean and well maintained Disliked: The noise from the main road was annoying on Friday evening, but wasn't noticeable on the Saturday night. The toilets are a good 5 min from the camp-site, but there is a short cut if you pitch up on the left hand side of the field.

Liked: The park was right next to the tent field which was ideal for the kids. They could go to the park and we could keep an eye on them from the tent.
