Heathfield Caravan Park

8.2 Favourite
From £15 (for 1 night, 2 adults)   Why not enter some details and get an accurate price?

It’s stating the obvious, really. A piece of Yorkshire that’s in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and which has walks, history and views galore. And dales and moors, for moody stomping about with windswept hair…No, not Heathcliff this time but Heathfield Caravan Park, set in an unspoilt wooded valley in Upper Nidderdale in the Yorkshire Dales, right on the Nidderdale Way for hiking, biking or cantering along on horseback.

Heathfield Caravan Park is family owned and managed and has pitches with or without electric hook-up, with the showers, loos and other facilities kept spotlessly clean. The pitches come in different sizes to take almost any size of tourers or motorhomes, and most have water at the side of the pitch or within a walkable distance to fill the kettle for a morning cuppa; there’s a shop on site too for stocking up on essentials. For filling up off site, there are two pubs at Pateley Bridge half a mile away.

Nearby attractions and activities

Pateley Bridge is where the Nidderdale Way starts and ends: there are walking, cycling and horse-riding trails along its 53-mile stretch, or you could lead a llama through the dales by hooking up with Nidderdale Llamas. The town is the only one in this dale and has England’s oldest sweet shop and the Nidderdale Museum in the old workhouse.

As it’s Yorkshire, there are historical highlights aplenty: Ripley Castle and its Capability Brown gardens, the twelfth century Augustinian Bolton Abbey with nature trails in Strid Wood and the hunting lodge of Barden Tower, and the dungeon depths of medieval Skipton Castle; the stately homes of Newby Hall and Harewood House both have extensive gardens to wander as well as the usual ornate interiors. A must is Yorkshire’s first World Heritage Site, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, one of the biggest abbey ruins in England and with 500 deer in the medieval deer park.

Yorkshire’s also not short of gorges, caves and geological features to get your rocks off at: the balancing act of the National Trust-managed Brimham Rocks is where the Bee Gees shot the video for You Win Again (teach it to the kids). The limestone caves of Stump Cross Caverns near Pateley Bridge once had wolverines retreating to them in their chase after reindeer and bison; prehistoric reindeer bones are on display in the visitor centre. There’s also the 80-ft deep How Stean Gorge with its roaring waterfalls and Tom Taylor’s Cave; the gorge itself can be explored via the network of footbridges and paths. Malham Cove and Tarn takes in a huge limestone cliff, the Gordale Scar gorge and the Malham Tarn nature reserve – there are several other nature reserves around too, such as Gouthwaite Reservoir and Roundhill Reservoir.

For a well-deserved rest and pick-me-up, head to Harrogate to sup some spa waters and mash a tea at Betty’s Tea Rooms; Leeds and York are also both within driving distance for shopping, seeing the sights and taking in a show or three.

Liked: Had a great bank holiday weekend at Heathfield we,received a friendly welcome for the owners who could not have been more helpful, toilet block was spotless with good powerful hot showers and a small shop with the essentials.
5 mins walks from the nearest pub who did good food and Black sheep ale (who could ask for more).
As dog owners the site was perfect plenty of good walks from the site the river ...

Disliked: Nothing

Liked: Beautiful location with a lovely riverside walk into Pateley Bridge.
Great spot for walking and cycling.
Really pleasant owners who bend over backwards to help.
Nice flat grass field with brilliant dog walk facilities.
Useful little shop on site.
Short walking distance to pub.

Disliked: Nothing really bad but toilet block was basic.
Couln't find a floor level waste water disposal point so disposing of waste water was difficult because had to lift waste water hog up onto a toilet bowl.

Liked: On arriving at reception it was raining, we were met by a young lady who had a beaming smile and a friendly welcome. She told us where every thing was located and said just find a pitch and we could settle the bill before we left. The site was quiet clean and in a great location. The Bridge Inn just down the lane was also friendly and welcoming. If only all sites were like this ...

Liked: What can I say this campsite set in the lovely dales with Patley Bridge half an hours walk along the river side. This is what I can say after a very warm welcome we was given a choice of places to set up camp and as there was 2 tents in our group there was plenty of space between tents. As this site is away from any main road the kids (aged from 9-15) was ...

Disliked: having to take my tent down and leave Heathfield.

Liked: Beautiful surroundings.

Disliked: Supposed booking system. Having paid "unrefundable deposit" a pitch was not reserved for us.
Turned up on Saturday at 7.40pm after pre booking and paying a deposit to find no space to pitch.
The booking said we could turn up at anytime.
Unfortunately the site was unmanned at the time so we left to find alternative accommodation which is difficult at that time on a Saturday. Spent an hour finding another campsite and we ...

From the manager...

I am sorry you had problems with your visit.

The wall is not "falling down", it is in the process of being re-built and dry stone wallers need a small area to lay out stone to see what they have to use.

There was an "out of hours" number on the reception door for you to ring on arrival as reception was closed at the time of your arrival. If you had rung this we would of shown you to the pitch we had reserved for you. I am sure you can appreciate that we cannot be in reception 24/7 on bank holidays as we have facilites to clean and jobs that need doing around the park although there is always a manager on site.

We are more than happy for you to transfer your non refundable deposit to another weekend when we have availability. Please contact us and if we are not available to take your call please leave a message and we will get back to you.

Liked: The owner of the camp was very welcoming. The camp was in a good location not far from how staen gorge. Had everything we needed electric pitch, water, male and female toilets and also a sink to wash all pots. Had washer and dryer and also showers for both male and female. We also found everything we needed on the on site shop. We will definitely return to this site in the future.

Liked: Loved waking up to the surrounding views.

Family bathroom was useful. Plenty of space for kids to run about, we didnt feel on top of other pitches.

It was really great that we could leave the site anytime convenient for us (we had a 1yr old with us), instead of rushing to get packed up and move on.

Staff were very friendly and approachable.

Disliked: If we were being nit-picky, the only thing we couldnt find (in the part we were in) was somewhere to dispose of waste water. Otherwise a great all-round site!
