Haw Wood Farm is a quiet site with spacious pitches to allow you to stretch out and relax, on the edge of the Suffolk Heritage Coast area and within easy reach of Aldeburgh, Southwold, Snape Maltings, Walberswick and Dunwich as well as the Suffolk Coast NNR and RSPB Minsmere.

We welcome dogs and children but ask that you keep them under control and clear up after them. Leads are optional for children of course!

We're next door to a pay and play golf course, and bicycle hire is within easy reach. If you're just kicking back, look out for our many wildlife residents including a turtle dove. We look forward to welcoming you to the Haw Wood Farm site.

Nearby attractions and activities

Whether it's walking, cycling, watching the wildlife or birds, or strolling on the the beach or in the forest, we have everything right on our doorstep. With cycle tracks and walking paths galore, you can be in the forest one moment and on the coast the next. The wildlife is something to behold with some beautiful wild deer which can be seen on the fields and, in Dunwich Forest, there's a growing herd of Dartmoor ponies introduced in 2008. The RSPB reserve at Minsmere is a paltry ten minutes away and if you're a keen ornithologist, an absolute must-do before you leave.

Never far from a postcard-pretty village, a building of architectural interest or a magnificent church, you'll also find plenty of pubs serving the local Adnams ale and good home-cooked food. At night, we have, reputedly, the clearest skies in Britain and star-gazing becomes a whole new world!

Liked: The space to pitch up, the availability of fresh water in numerous locations and plenty of hot water.
The little shop is also very useful and stocks the essentials.

Disliked: I expected from the name "Haw Wood" for a wood for the children to play in but alas there is no such wood.

Liked: Lovely rural setting, very friendly and helpful staff. Laid back vibe. Good location near to many local attractions.

Disliked: Toilet blocks a little dated and at times a little dirty, but all the amenities were there.

Thanks for the review, very much appreciated. We try to keep rules & regulations to the absolute minimum & maintian the relaxed atmosphere, Hawwodd has gained over the years.
Keeping on top of the toilet block is challenging. The re-furbishments carried out last year certainly improved them but are only intended as a short-term solution as we have plans to build a brand new toilet/shower block, shop & office in the very near future.
We hope to see you again soon.

Very peaceful setting and within spitting distance of Southwold.

Liked: The tranquility and location, easy to find and so close to the coast. Cyclists paradise! The owner (and dog) are extremely friendly and accomodating, nothing was too much trouble. We had a great time with plenty of space for our pitch. Looking forward to returning when the fishing lake is finished.

Disliked: A bit pricey.
I know previously that people have complained about the toilet block but we thought it was ok, what do you expect, it is a field after all!. it has plenty of hot water and the toilets work and it doesn't smell, what more do you need?

Thanks for the comments Rob & nice of you to give "Henry" (named after the vacuum cleaner, you didn't meet Dyson the labrador) a mention. We do have an on-lead policy on the site but I'm about the guiltiest person of all as Henry loves to socialise by playing ball with the kids & share a BBQ with anyone he can. He's the friendliest dog I've ever known with people & other dogs alike & the number of friends he's made out-weighs the very few complaints I've had to keep him off the site. I've adopted the rule that I'll make efforts to keep him off the site & round him up if anyone complains, With this in mind, If you are thinking of making a booking & don't fancy a four-legged guest for breakfast, let me know & I'll keep him off the site. If, on the other hand anyone would like a part-time pet during your stay, I'm sure he'd be absolutely delighted!!
PS, We've had a re-think on the fishing pond. The pond at the sites entrance has been landscaped & is due to be seeded this coming week. We also plan to add some family picnic areas surrounding the area. With this in mind we have decided to make the larger pond opposite our house available for small fishing parties. Call us for further details.

All the best, Dave.

Liked: Haw Wood has a relaxed inviting atmosphere, we could park wherever we liked. The site was flat and the surrounding countryside/farmland added to the feeling of 'being away from it all'. It was Easter (the coldest for 50 years!) so there were only a few families and couples, consequently the site was quiet - which suited us. The dog walking area was huge!

The owner was welcoming, friendly and helpful. The immediate surrounding area, Southwold ...

Disliked: The shower and toilet block were ok. If we were to give it a star rating it would be 2/3. The water was instantly hot and toilets clean. Wonder how it will cater for large numbers in the summer - there might be queuing for the for showers given the capacity of the Park?

There was an unfenced pond close to entrance which we assume will be fenced at some point.

Thankyou Iris, lovely to hear you enjoyed your stay even though the weather was so poor. The site's even nicer when it's warm!

I'm glad you mentioned the lack of rules, it's a policy, Sue & I intend to maintain. If we could print just one sign to hang on the entrance gate saying: "SITE RULES, don't be daft". we would. All we ask is that people respect our site, other people, give the sinks a bit of a rinse after use, spend a couple of quid in the shop & say hello to the resident campsite dog "Henry" if you see him.
PS, The new fencing is going up around the pond this week.

Thanks again & see you again soon.

Dave & Sue.

Liked: This was only our 2nd family camping trip so i dont have much to compare to.
The site is very laid back. When we arrived there was a sign on the reception saying he was busy and find a pitchnand let him know later. We did not recieve a long list of rules! Nice. Was a good location for visiting southwold and surrounding area. The shower block has been updated. Hot showers. They are cleaned ...

Disliked: While the shower block has been updated the showers they are small with no where to putyour clothes. There isna hook on the wall so make sure you take a bag to hang on it. There are also only2 showers so i can imagine it gets busy. The furthest point from the showers is about 200m. One night the showers were a bit cold. The staff apologised and saidmthey were having trouble with the water ...

We are working hard to make improvements at Haw Wood Farm with a list of on-going projects. This included re-plumbing & re-furbishment of the existing toilet block.

Managers Dave & Sue have focused efforts on maintaining the relaxed atmosphere & have been pleased at the feed-back from customers both old & new.

Thankyou for al your comments, they are very much appreciated.

Liked: Pitches were of a reasonable size.
Location good for getting about.

Disliked: Toilet blocks - many of the toilets did not flush right, often there was no toilet paper, and the whole blocks looked as if they needed at the very least a very good clean.
They do say that there will be a new toilet block next year, but until then I would not return.

Thankyou for taking time to add your comments. As a result we have addressed the issue by re-plumbing & re-furbishing the existing toilet block. The work included new toilet flushing systems, locking, industrial toliet roll dispensers, new showers & water tanks to maintain water pressure & temperature.
