  • Award-winning back-to-basics site five minutes' drive from Bewdley
  • Five minutes' drive from West Midlands Safari Park and Go Ape
  • Awnings and barbecues welcome on the large 17 x 19-metre pitches
If you’re the sort that shuns sites with noisome activities, seeking instead simple pleasures and peaceful places, you may have hit the jackpot at Blackstone Meadow Holiday Park. Turn directly off the A456 just outside Bewdley for three acres of level pasture, with each of the super-sized pitches gifting you a hefty slab of space. Let the kids run free, put up an awning… even set up a grand outdoor dining area if you wish (candelabras optional but always appreciated). Blackstone is surrounded by greenery and with the River Severn flowing a few minutes’ amble away. Rural ramblings are easily achieved here: start at the wildlife nature reserve just over the road before striding forth on the network of bridleways that radiate out into the surrounding area, or trot up to town in around 25 minutes along a quiet and scenic path to Bewdley's several excellent pubs. The site's also but a few minutes’ drive from two golf clubs, the West Midland Safari Park, Go Ape at Wyre Forest, and trips on the Severn Valley Railway. When you’re finally tuckered out from whatever activity you selected, retreat to your pitch to sizzle your supper over the barbecue coals (must be raised off the ground) and cosy up for an evening of outdoor eats and perhaps a bottle or two from the Bewdley Brewery. Please note that as a back to basics site, Blackstone doesn’t have toilets or showers. This site only accepts guests over the age of 14.

Liked: Just stayed here over the weekend on Snowdrop. What an absolute lovely site, pitches are massive and your not intrusive on your neighbours, as with all the other reviews on here the alpacas are so relaxing to watch them roam freely. Pip and Paul made us feel very welcome, will definitely be going back.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Back to basics site, with water and electric per pitch. Pip and Paul were friendly and made us feel welcome. The Alpacas make quiet but intriguing neighbours! Pitches were flat, some hardstanding, some grass. A 20 minute walk along the river or via road to the beautiful town. Bus stops and train station all within easy walking distance.

Disliked: Not so much a dislike, but more to make future visitors aware. The road is noisy, particularly between 9pm and 11pm when the nighttime racers start their engines up. Unfortunately we've come across this many times when a site has good access from a main road, and not much the site can do about it. If you go prepared, it shouldn't spoil your stay.

Poppy electric grass touring pitch

Liked: The location. Easy to find, and only a short walk from Bewdley town , either via the quieter , (but could be muddy), riverwalk, or along the main road, (pavement all the way) . The site is screened from the road, is quiet and very clean, with wide pitches.Ignore a bit of road noise, you can't have everything. The main attraction was the herd of alpacas who graze around , gentle animals who keep a discreet distance , no need to worry about them. You can even take away some of their manure..apparently it's great for your garden, and is, literally, hoovered up every day . We're only annoyed that we forgot to ask for some, but as we'll be back it's not a problem! Pip, the joint owner and alpaca keeper in chief was very friendly and keen to help with whatever she could. An enjoyable , if short, and damp, stay. Thank you.

Disliked: The weather, who ordered that rain, and in that amount?

Local attractions

Settle in for a stay here and you’re well placed for nearby attractions to keep guests happily occupied for days. Head to the Wyre Forest National Nature Reserve, five minutes or so away in the car, to explore one of the largest oak woodlands in the country on foot, by bike or on horseback. A great family day out nearby is the West Midlands Safari Park, also around five minutes’ drive away. Pick from drive-through zones to see elephants, lions, zebra and rhinos, or walkthrough areas where you can see penguins, become a landing zone for lorikeets and stay a safe distance from a collection of creepy crawlies including a glow-in-the-dark scorpion. Train fanciers of all ages won’t want to miss a trip on the steam-powered Severn Valley Railway. Hail it at Bewdley and head to Bridgnorth, where you can visit the ruined castle and continue the trainspotting with a ride on the Bridgnorth Cliff Railway, the oldest and steepest inland electric funicular railway in all the land.
