See all facilities…Remember when you were teeny and used to dream of finding a snug hideaway in the woods, just for you and a few friends (if they hadn’t annoyed you too much that week)? You’d have your own camping hut among the trees and the birds, and no-one would be able to find you and you wouldn’t have to go to school for that maths test…
Now that we’re all growed up, the maths test is a quarterly appraisal and the teacher is the boss, the urge to escape with a select band of outlaws still surges up on most of us occasionally. Which is why Woodland Park Camping Huts in Shropshire is such a stonking site: tiny, peaceful and made up of five snug camping huts set around a woodland pond, where you’ll be free as a bird from the niggles and stresses of everyday life.
Speaking of birds, there are loads of them – and accompanying beasts – to spot in the adjoining woodland: sit around the campfire to listen to owls hooting at night, or keep your eyes peeled for badgers, polecats, squirrels and foxes. You might also see a kestrel or buzzard or two, but do remember to look up…More domestically, the site is on a working dairy farm so you may be able to take the kids along to see the cows being milked by prior arrangement.
The spankingly clean and well-maintained huts at Woodland Park all come with bunk beds, table, bench, electricity and lockable doors: bring your own bedding to snuggle down in. Guests are welcome to cart along their own cooking equipment, but the site offers camping packs for hire with cooking bits and bobs; campfires are allowed at designated times in the Woodland fire pits and barbecues are also welcome as long as they’re kept off the ground. Each hut comes with its own picnic bench overlooking the water and there’s car parking a short stroll away.
Amenities are kept to the highest standards so that no stress spoils your hideaway: the loo and shower block is brand-new and has lashings of hot water available via tokens from reception, with a washing up area added too.
Nearby attractions and activities
Let the kids loose in the woods for nature-spotting and general frolicking: there are swathes of walks in the surrounding area, with cycling, mountain biking and cantering along on horseback all nearby, as well as sailing and watersports if you want to dip your toes.
The market town of Ellesmere is five minutes’ drive away with its famous 48-hectare mere; there’s a visitors’ centre where you can spot herons and other mere locals, and there’s also a steam boat trip, rowing boats to hire and fishing available. The town has tons of other things to do too: try the sculpture trail, teeing off at The Brow Golf Club or some all-important retail therapy; there’s a food festival each summer to sample the local produce.
Fifteen miles away from Woodland Park is the medieval town of Shrewsbury, the birthplace of Charles Darwin: options here include taking a boat or canoe trip along the River Severn which runs through the town or visiting the many historical attractions. With over 600 listed buildings in the town, we think you’ll find something you’ll want to see, but if you’re feeling a bit spoilt for choice, Shrewsbury Castle, Shrewsbury Abbey and the mansion Attingham Park are definite must-sees, as is Wroxeter Roman City, once the fourth-biggest city in Roman Britain.
The historic town of Chester is also well worth a day or two's amble: take a bus or boat sightseeing tour through its medieval streets or along the River Dee, browse around the cathedral and castle or try the Dewa Roman Experience. The kids will go ape at the 7000 animals at Chester Zoo, while grown-ups may prefer to check out the equine delights of Chester Racecourse.
For other day trips, try the theme parks of Alton Towers and Drayton Manor, fooling around at Hawkstone Historic Park and Follies, or crossing the border to North Wales for castle cruising at Chirk and Powis and strolling around Snowdonia National Park. The beaches of the North Wales coastline, Rhyl and Prestatyn, are just over an hour away.

Liked: Everything about woodland park was great, the staff were so friendly and helpful. The location was beautiful and the camping huts were amazing. I booked the back to basic hut "sqwirel" which consisted of a kitchen area with table, camping stove, pots & pans and fold up chairs. Bedroom downstairs had 4-bunk beds which are children's blow up beds fitted in perfectly, plus the 4 children got to be together which they loved. Upstairs were ... Disliked: I can honestly say that I didn't dislike anything about woodland park, its such an amazing place that doesn't dissapoint. |

A great family get away, superb site and facilities, friendly staff SNAppycAmper (Family with older children, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: This was a great find. We haven't come across this concept of huts like these anywhere else, and now can't understand why not. It's a lovely well kept site in a great location for some good family days out. The huts are provided with quite a few helpful things such as plenty of plug sockets (10!), coat hooks and a clothes horse as well as table and chairs. The fire pit outside ... Disliked: Nothing at all, but we do think the bunk beds would have benefited from rails on the upper bunks and if the site had been full there would most likely have been queues for the washroom as there is only one toilet + one urinal in the men's; 2 toilets in the ladies section. |

Liked: Surroundings were brilliant. Staff were very friendly. Overall we had a great experience and the huts/site were more than we expected. Would recommend to anyone that wants a break for a couple of days. Disliked: No dislikes. |

Liked: I would recommend this site to anyone. The lodge was great, the new toilet block was clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was fab seeing the cows being milked and the calves on the farm. We will certainly be going back. Disliked: Us getting lost trying to find the pub so ask staff for directions or take a map! Nothing to dislike about the site. |

Lodges Jordan R. (With friends, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: We went to the lodges for my 18th Birthday, I thought getting out my hometown will be a memorable birthday and it so was. The lodge itself was brilliant, was so much bigger than we expected. We stayed in the 7 berth although it could of fit so many more as all 7 of us slept upstairs with the 3 beds and used the floor. We drank and had music playing and everything was just ... Disliked: I couldn't get the heater we paid for to work, although I was a bit tipsy to care. However, sober in the morning I had managed to turn it on and go back to sleep for an hour so we woke up to a warm lodge. This wasn't the companies fault and the female employees who worked there were very helpful, If I had just called them they would of came down. |

Loved the hut! secretsheep (Family with young children, 1 review, 3 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: our magical hut in the woods. We all loved our campfire with toasted marshmallows. We enjoyed building bridges, shelters, fishing, walking, sitting, talking, chilling, warming. Lovely, lovely venue. Disliked: The path to the toilets could have been better. We either had to walk through another hut's 'garden', or stumble over stumps around the back. A minor complaint, as the toilets themselves were immaculate. |

In one word AMAZING! loren1banks (With friends, 1 review, 2 photos)
Liked: everything about it, from the start when we got lost and the campsite where so friendly in helping us find our way, the instructions when we got there were lovely really down to earth people, quaint quiet and just beautiful scenery, i literally could of stayed longer. Waking up with a hangover didnt seem so bad waking up there. Disliked: if i am completley honest not much i didsliked about it maybe a clearer instruction of where to put the rubbish and the cows where loud in the morning but that was really anything that could be helped. maybe better signposting on the way as we did get lost but then we should of took the sat nav :P |

Liked: Camping huts were fantastic, clean and just the right size! Great 1 night break away, the local area is beautiful - lots of walks! Will be returning very soon but for longer! Fire Pits are great very cosy - and also great for keeping away all the mosquito's! Disliked: The water was so so HOT! No warning signs! Would of liked more information in the cabin - possibly a welcome package including information on local shops, local walks near by and any other useful information. |

excellent break in the Badger camping hut michelleraeburn (Family with young children, 1 review, 1 photo)
Liked: The facilities were amazing and it is such a lovely site, the kids made friends and we had a camp fire each night. Generally brilliant and would come again. The woods were plenty of entertainment for us all, so as long as you have an imagination and love of the outdoors, you'll love it too. Disliked: The only issue for us was that there wasn't a double bed, and with only a double airbed and sleeping bag we had to pitch up on the floor, but the dog liked it! |

One night stay in a 7 berth Camping Hut John W. (Family with older children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Great fun one night break for me and my 15 and 10 year old Sons. The Hut was great with proper lighting and double electric sockets in abundance ! Disliked: We didn't use the bumks in the downstairs bedroom but there were no ladders to get up to the top bunks ... I thought that was strange. |

Fantastic fun in woodland Camping Hut!! Maria P. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Absolutely loved everything. Loved the location of the camping huts, tucked away in the woods overlooking a little pond, the huts themselves are spotlessly clean and though are basic, it has all you need if you want to experience camping without the hassle of putting up a tent! Our party included 7 children, ages ranging from 8 to 14 and they had an absolute blast! was great that the y had space to run around ... Disliked: Didnt dislike anything about it!! The only thing that we had a problem with was passed on to the staff who rectified it straight away.......there is nothing you could really dislike about Woodland Park. |

Brilliant! Emily C. (Young couple, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: We stayed here with our dog for 3 nights. Everyone at the farm was very friendly and helpful. We loved the firepit and the whole set-up is lovely. The woods are great for walking in and our dog had a blast. The toilet/shower block was immaculate - showers are operated by a £1 shower token, which gets you a long, hot, powerful shower! Disliked: If, like me, mosquitos find you irrestible, I recommend taking insect repellant as the huts are very near to a pond. |
Facebook Twitter Google Plus |
Liked: The huts had only been open for about a week when we arrived. Tracey who works on the site greeted us and did a fabulous job of showing us around, she was very friendly and knowledgeable about her working environment. The hut we stayed in was great, very clean and had everything you need for camping with the huge added bonus of not worrying about putting up the tent! The kids aged 4 and 7 ... Disliked: The only thing that I would comment on is the top bunks in the huts don't have any ladders so the children and myself couldn't sleep up there as we couldn't get down easily, my husband who is taller was fine though!
From the manager...
We have since added ladders to all of the bunk beds and also an extra slat to the side of the top bunk to stop anyone falling out! |

Liked: Fantastic and peaceful location. Disliked: The smell that sometimes lingers in the area..but it is aaded bonus as it is a working farm..but aside from that i cannot pick up any negatives so far.We have decided to keep it as our family best kept secret... |
