General

  • Peaceful Nottinghamshire park, a 10-minute walk from the River Trent
  • Half an hour's drive from Nottingham; 45 minutes from Sherwood Forest
  • Pubs with food, boat hire and fishing within 10 minutes' walk

Fancy a riverside retreat in Robin Hood country? Boat Lane Caravan and Camping has a berth for you. A 10-minute walk to the banks of the River Trent and a pair of popular pubs with grub, this site sits on a spot of prime Nottinghamshire countryside.

They keep things simple at Boat Lane, allowing you enjoy the peace of its spacious tree-lined meadow with minimum fuss. There are hot showers in the well-maintained washrooms, a washing-up area for your pots and pans and everyone has access to a communal fridge for perishables (or Prosecco...). There’s plenty of room for the kids to run about and a playground if you prefer them to stay in one place; dogs, like everyone else and barbecues, are welcome.

The owners recommend a 10-minute riverside walk to the pub at Fiskerton (three minutes by car), followed by a boat ride down and/or across the Trent. The Domesday Book records a ferry crossing here in the 11th-century, so why not make like a medieval in a rowing boat?

If you’d rather explore the waters without tiring yourself, make for Gunthorpe (quarter of an hour) for a river cruise or take your rods to Bleasby lake three minutes away for day permit fishing.

Good pub very close by. We did quiz night on Sunday and had a lovely meal there.
The campsite is close to the river. We enjoyed a good walk all the way down the river to Fiskerton.
    Good location.
Our children enjoyed the play equipment.

    Disliked:

After booking through pitch up, we was "greeted" by an old guy who was rude and made us feel very unwelcome. He told us we were the 14th family to arrive that day that he didn't know about. He then continually complained about people booking on pitch up. We was shown to our pitch (as there happened to be a spare one available) to be then "greeted" by our neighbours, who were as equally unwelcoming, demanding to know how long we was planning on staying as they wanted our pitch for their friends! We tried to use one of the communal picnic tables which was on our pitch to be told by our neighbours that as she had painted it, it was hers and we cant use it.
Facilities (toilets, showers, washing up area) are poor, however they are mostly clean. The toilet and shower doors are too small and there is no privacy!
There is a big shed/building right in the middle of the campsite which is falling down and looks dangerous.
The 1 and only bin on the whole campsite was overflowing so binbags and rubbish was dumped all around it. There is nowhere to recycle anything so bottles, cans, paper all went in with the general waste.
The sign at the main gates states "welcome to paradise". This campsite is certainly not paradise!

From the manager...

I would like to apologise for the confusion caused in relation to your stay at Boat Lane Park, as I hope you can appreciate we are relatively new to Pitchup.com and as can be expected we appear to have encountered some teething problems.

PARK STAFF
I can only apologise if you felt there comments regarding the confusion over your booking was rude but as stated previously Pitch up is very new to us and we are still adjusting to there booking systems

RUBBISH
In relation to the overflowing rubbish, this was due to greater guest numbers them was exspected we have since arranged for additional rubbish receptacles and further collections.

FACILITYS
Thank you for your comments we will take them in to consideration.

BUILDING
We appreciate the building is not appealing in it existing state but this was caused by the heavy winds we experienced earlier this year. The structure has been assessed for health and safty by a engineer and the structure has been deemed safe.

With this in mine we have decided to reduce the distribution to holiday make during this season and arrangements have been made to distmantle the structure during the winter months.

GUEST
As I hope you can appreciate we have no control over the comments of any guest/neigbours that visit the park I can only apologise if they caused offence.

Please accept our apology and thank you for your understanding.

Regards

Michael White

    Pretty surroundings

    Disliked:

The man at the reception was so rude. When I first walked in, I said I had booked though Pitch up and said oh no not another one and proceeded to have a conversation with the man with him (who was lovely). I was so confused as to why he ignored me and started having a conversation with the other man. Then he explained how the head office or something haven’t told him any of the bookings. Then after all the confusion he said luckily there was space of us and his friend showed us around the site and where to pitch up. We went back into the reception to pay and the rude man was there and took our payments and told us next time to contact him directly to book. When he took our names for the bookings, he was vile and rude about my friends name. Which I thought was so unprofessional and rude. Other than that our stay was ok.

Facilities weren’t too great, bin was overflowing in the toilet and there was glass on the floor

Local attractions

A major hub since the days of Robin and his Merry Men, Nottingham (half an hour by car) still draws the crowds. Tour the castle and the caves, take a glass of ale in Ye Trip To Jerusalem (one of many contenders for the oldest pub in England crown), skate on ice at Motorpoint Arena and see how far law and order’s come since the Sheriff’s time in the National Justice Museum.

Sherwood Forest, three quarters of an hour away, harbours no brigands these days; within the nature reserve, country park and Sherwood Pines Forest Park you will find 450 acres of wildlife with among ancient oak trees and a wealth of biking and walking trails taking you through them. Traverse the tree-tops on ropes and wires at Go Ape, or let the kids loose on Robin Hood’s Hideout, an acclaimed natural play area; on your way back, call in at Ferry Farm Country Park a quarter of an hour from the site, to pet the pigs, feed the lambs, zoom about on go-karts and get adventurous on the adventure playground.

If the ancient forest’s fired you up about history, make for Newark (25 minutes) with its castle, National Civil War Centre and Air Museum. Or to feel as if you stepped back in time, take the 45-minute trip to Wollaton Hall, where herds of red and fallow deer roam round a lake in the grounds of a stately Elizabethan mansion.

  • The Lace Market Centre (10.9 miles)
  • Nottingham Castle (11.3 miles)
