General

  • Spacious and grassy site set on the banks of the River Trent
  • Watersports centre and several theme parks a short drive away
  • Riverside walks and bike rides, boat trips and restaurants nearby

Gunthorpe Camping is a small family-friendly site set on a level grassy paddock next to the River Trent. There are several good bars and restaurants within a short stroll, and you can take riverside walks and bike rides direct from the property.

The grassy paddock is open and surrounded by hedges and mature trees, providing guests with privacy and plenty of space to spread out. It's a simple site that focuses on giving visitors a peaceful and comfortable stay in the countryside: the grounds are well-maintained and the showers in the bright, clean washrooms provide plentiful hot water.

Friendly dogs are welcome throughout the year, as are barbecues, so it's all systems go if you want to grill up an alfresco feast by the river banks.

Canoeing/kayaking, fishing and boat trips are available nearby on the River Trent, and for a gentle intro to the area and its charms, you could hire bikes for a cycle trip through Colwick Country Park (20 minutes' drive), a pleasant combo of woodlands, lakes, meadows and playgrounds where you can swim, fish, walk, sail and spot wildlife.

Please note

Bookings must not be for more than 7 consecutive nights.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Very quite and well located place for capming with friends and family. The tent was perfect, we asked for fire pit and we were given fire pit and also benches to sit outside. The premises was secure and fitted with a door allowing access by entering the code.

There are couple of nice pubs around and you can have a nice walk by the river.

The Bell tent was excellent and very clean with a Double Mattress already fitted inside and electricity available along with a Kettle. Despite what some reviews say, the showers are working and were of good quality, just the painting to finish.

    Disliked:

No real hot water !! And dirty facilities in construction (you're building it for now so I understand it's temporary but you should lower the price during works)

From the manager...

Dear Benjamin De Mercurio

Unfair comments after we had to ask you not to go into somebody’s tent that you didn’t know. That is never acceptable.

Local attractions

Despite the industrial past and present, Nottinghamshire has many fab natural landscapes: the wetlands at Skylarks Nature Reserve, a 20-minute drive from the site are as rich with feathered life as any you'll see on the TV nature channels.

If you're seeking more intense thrills, there's go-karting a quarter of an hour away in Netherfield, a massive array of high octane stuff (not all of it watery) at the National Watersports Centre (20 minutes) including Segway rides, high ropes, wakeboarding and rafting.

Then there's Sherwood Forest and Sherwood Forest Pines Park 40 minutes away: a leafy combination of legend, history, nature reserve, country park and adventure centre, with hiking and biking trails taking you through the 450 acres of ancient oaks and wildlife. Adventure-seekers can see it from the tree-tops on ropes and wires at Go Ape, and the kids can clamber about at the award-winning natural play area, Robin Hood’s Hideout.

For family antics out of the forest, Sundown Adventure Park (20 minutes) has rides and themed playgrounds for the under-10s; Twinlakes Park offers birds of prey shows and creepy critters along with its waterpark and rollercoaster rides and for the real big-ride fanatics, it's an hour and a half to Alton Towers.

It's half an hour to Nottingham for tours of the castle and the caves, stopping for snifters in Ye Trip To Jerusalem (it might be ye oldest pub in England) and ice-skating at Motorpoint Arena.
