  • Small family-run site among five acres of green Lincs countryside
  • A mile from Sutton on Sea and within walking distance of Huttoft beach
  • Next to a riding centre and 20 minutes' drive from Skegness
Well now, this is a popular little place. 'Fab', 'beautiful' and 'brilliant' are but of a few of the plaudits that have been heaped on small, family-run and friendly South Farm Caravan Park, set deep in the Lincolnshire countryside a mile from colourful Sutton on Sea. Families, couples and solo travellers are all welcome here, and dogs would likely give the farm an approving woof too: many walks are nearby along the countryside lanes and fields, and the walks – and bike rides – of the Lincolnshire Wolds are very close by. The closest beach, Huttoft or Moggs Eye, has miles of dog-friendly sands for the pooch to let loose. If you think the kids would like to canter, riding lessons and a pony club are at the equestrian centre next door to the farm; if they tend more towards a seaside vibe, Skegness is about 20 minutes away. (And if after that you tend towards a gentler vibe, the long wide open sands of peaceful Huttoft beach are within walking distance of the farm.) Facilities at the farm include spotless shower and toilet blocks (these are based away from the pitches and require a walk) and a washing-up area. There's a small tea room open at weekends only and a games room.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Quiet

Disliked: Site needs alot of work upgrading. It's obviously work in progress. Would have been nice to have more interaction with the owners. Didn't seem interested in conversation, only a young man who we assumed was owners son made the effort to be pleasant.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Yes the site is being improved, we have done and still are doing lots of work to the site. My love how can we interact with you when you are out and about enjoying your holiday? Would you like us to have come with you? The times we were about on site talking to other guests you were in your motorhome, we don’t pester our guests while they stay here. I’m sorry you feel as thought we as owners weren’t at your beck and call and in the future we will do better!!

Not bad for a stop over

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Pitch was ok in a nice little area.

Disliked: Toilets were a long way from the site especially as I’m disabled. Luckily I have one in my motorhome. But most people don’t. All in all a good site for a stop over but I wouldn’t stay for a week. Not the sites fault but too far to walk to the beach. Has a little games room and washing facilities.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for staying with us. If you had explained to us upon your arrival that you needed to be near the toilet facilities we could have accommodated you but as you didn’t tell us what can we do?. Yes the toilets facilities are a walk away from the pitches but we never built the site like that and it does tell you on pitch up that there is a walk. Most camper vans and touring caravans do have toilets inside them to use. We can’t help with how “long” the walk is to the beach (20 minutes) most people enjoy this walk but maybe next time you should book a campsite next to the beach.

Lovely peaceful and small site, which is what we wanted. Very clean showers…

Camping pod (adults only, no pets)

Liked: The camping pod had a decent amount of space, with a double bed, a refrigerator a kettle and a toaster. there was also a small cloths rack to hang up coats etc. The pod was comfortable during my stay, with external temperatures at around 8 degrees. The ground was very boggy due to heavy rain, the owners let me park my motorbike on the hard standing behind the pods to prevent it sinking into the ground.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Loved being in the outdoors! loved it being in our caravan with the sound of the wind and rain sending me off to sleep at night...bliss!. checklist: book a hard standing pitch next time; in times of wet weather. Don't forget salt & vinegar for the chip shop chips next time!

Disliked: It was quite a muddy experience but could not have been predicted or prevented. Just so much rain ! hoping to return soon in fair weather.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for staying with us. Yes it does get very muddy here especially our grass pitches but with the amount of rain we have had it’s expected.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Really quiet peaceful & out of the way site. Visited the week before Easter so it was probably quieter than normal but I enjoyed that. Really friendly owners. Obviously doing a lot of work to improve site further but honestly I didn't think it needed much doing. The hard standing pitch we used was everything we needed. The grass pitches were sodden but you can't blame the owners for the weather!!

Disliked: Some people would moan about how quiet it was but I loved it

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The quiet. The price. Nobody bothered us and it was like being in the country and experiencing it…not like being in a well tended garden centre, or maybe like “home from home”,which some parks aim to be like nowadays. There is a danger that sites can become over fussy, over managed and over manicured, so people can’t relax! Families clearly love it and return year after year as there are well established pitches.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for staying with us. Really happy that you enjoyed your stay, we like people to relax this is your holiday and we don’t need to bother you while you’re enjoying yourself, if there was a problem of course we would come and speak with you and if you needed anything you knew where we were. Hope to see you again

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Really good value for money, nice and peaceful site (not at all rowdy which you might expect so close to the madness of Skegness!), friendly owners, lovely 15 min stroll to the beach at Huttoft.

Disliked: Just a minor point but it is a good trek to the loo if you're put where we were, near the play park. A portaloo down the end would be good! :)

Local attractions

This is a smashing spot for family and beach hols, with both Sutton on Sea and Huttoft beaches close by for colourful beach huts at the first and a peaceful relaxing vibe at the second. Skegness is an easy drive along the coast, and Mablethorpe and Ingoldmells are also easily accessible to the north and south. Among the many other activities near the farm are the ambles and pedals of the Lincolnshire Wolds or taking day trips to Lincolnshire's small market towns like Alford, where there's also a war museum and a theatre. Bargain hunters should also get along to one of Lincolnshire's many car boot sales, at Ingoldmells, Skegness and Mablethorpe on the coast and inland at Louth, Horncastle, Gainsborough and Hornbeach.
