  • Peaceful rural site just outside the village of Hogsthorpe
  • 20 minutes' drive from the beaches of Skegness and Chapel St Leonards
  • Well-stocked fishing lake on site, with bait and tackle available
Fishing-inclined folks, pack your kit and head to Ivy Lodge – this rural Lincolnshire site has its own well-stocked lake for leisurely days spent dangling your rod in the water. (If you prefer to travel light, bait and tackle are both available on site.) As tempting as it may be to lounge by the lake for days on end, you’d do well to leave it behind for at least a little while, as there’s much to explore in the surrounds. The seaside towns and sandy beaches of Skegness, Ingoldmells and Chapel St Leonards are within a 20-minute drive, as are scenic walks in the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Peace and quiet are the keywords at this well-kept site, so no long list of facilities and entertainment to distract from the relaxed rural vibe. All the basic amenities are covered though: a kitchen, washing-up area and freezer are available for guests to use, as is a shower block that receives a good thorough scrub on a daily basis. Barbecues are welcome for those of you who’d like to sizzle up a sausage or few; if you fancy washing grub down with a pint there’s a cosy country pub a 10-minute trot away in Hogsthorpe.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Pretty sure, quiet and clean. Also pleasantly small with a lovely lake in the middle with surprisingly friendly fish!

Disliked: Dislike is too strong. I would recommend that the toilets and showers be made unisex, as there were only two showers (1 X ladies, 1 x men) and two toilets (again 1 X ladies, gents). These were identical and separate so no obvious reason for segregation. I had to queue for the ladies' loo whilst the gents was available.

2 bedroom static caravan (no pets)

Liked: The site itself was fine. Pleasently laid out around a large fishing pond.

Disliked: The caravan was sort of modernised and had everything that you needed, but ut wasnt very clean. Mouldy duvets, pillows and tbe double bed mattress cover was stained and coveres ib hairs. Not what you expect.
