  • Peaceful rural site on a working farm seven miles from Leominster
  • Three National Trust properties within a 20-minute drive
  • Fishing, farm tours and walks on site
Welcome to a place that’s far away from your daily commute. Far from your to-do list. Far from email inboxes, meetings, bills, deadlines and all the other stresses of working life. In fact out here in your little spot by the lake, surrounded by little but trees and fields, you’ll probably get the feeling that you’re far away from absolutely everything. Actually, that’s not strictly true – you’re very handily only just off the A44, giving you easy access to Leominster and Worcester. And, perhaps more importantly, you’re only a five-minute drive away from a hearty meal in the local pub. Pottering is keenly encouraged around the farm – follow the paths around the lake and up to the top of the property to survey your territory. On a clear day you can see all the way to the Brecon Beacons and Abergavenny. If your wanderings have piqued an interest in the inner workings of the dairy farm, friendly host Tim will gladly take you on a tour and give you the lowdown on daily farm life. Volunteer yourself for a bit of hands-on farmyard fun and he’ll put you to work – perhaps feeding the calves or collecting freshly laid eggs. Guests who are in possession of a fishing licence are welcome to bring it along and arrange to fish in the lake to see if you can hook any of the carp, roach, rudd and perch. It’s all about the peace and quiet here, so Tim and Karen have refrained from filling the place with unnecessary distractions. If you need something to entertain you, there’s usually plenty of passing wildlife to focus your attentions on. Although if you really must keep an eye on that email for peace of mind, you can log on to the site’s wifi service.

Local attractions

Away from the farm there are plenty of ways to enjoy the rural life. Hire bikes from the site to explore the local cycle paths, or head over to the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, half an hour away, for some great walks. Riding lessons and treks are available from a riding centre a 10-minute drive away, or you could drive the half hour to Hereford to hire canoes to take out on the River Wye. There's also more fishing over at Docklow Pools, a five-minute drive from the farm. While you’re in Hereford, stop by the cathedral and visit the Mappa Mundi exhibit to see one of the country’s great medieval treasures – a huge map of the world thought to date back to around 1300. For history on more of a domestic level, wander around the The Black and White House Museum to see furniture, clothing and toys from across the ages. National Trust members can do well around these parts. Visit the medieval manor and orchards of Brockhampton Estate, 10 minutes away, or learn about domestic life at Croft Castle, 20 minutes away, a family home for the past 1000 years. It’s also worth making the 15-minute drive to Berrington Hall to wander around the Capability Brown landscaped gardens. After all that history you may well be needing a drink so head over to Westons Cider Mill, half an hour from the farm. Guided tours here will talk you through the cider-making process from tree to drink, and there are samples to be had at the end.
