  • Romantic and secluded Herefordshire hideaway in a wildlife haven
  • Chilled prosecco waiting in the yurt on arrival
  • Stunning views, two miles from Kingsland village
Hide away in the Herefordshire countryside at Acorn Yurt, developed for loved-up couples looking for luxury and peace. Acorn Yurt is a quiet horse-breeding farm where guests can be sure of countryside peace and an outdoors hol with luxury included. It's in an area with lovely scenery and lots of wildlife to see and hear: look out for red deer trotting around or up for red kites gliding… The yurt interior is French-inspired and has a full-sized bed, woodburner and comfy seats. All bed linen, towels, wood, gas (and even loo roll) is included; just bring your good self and a torch, and maybe something to chuck on the barbecue. A bag of wood is provided, with more available to buy if you run out. For sorting meals, the kitchen is next to the yurt and has a gas stove, sink, plenty of storage and crockery and cooking utensils, plus a collection of essentials in the cupboards. The loo is behind the kitchen and there's a nearby building with charging points, shower, a fridge and a freezer. Getting your romantic break off to a good start is pretty much guaranteed here: the kind folk that run the place make sure that all guests are greeted by a chilled bottle of prosecco and some pretty faux-silk flowers waiting in the yurt to set the tone. Nearby, Kingsland village (two miles away) has two good pubs, a garage, a shop, a post office and a church.

Route directions

The site is within view of both the Welsh Borders and Shropshire, but still in Herefordshire. From Kingsland centre, turn next to The Corners Inn, leaving the inn on your right. Follow road out of village for about 1 mile, and just over the brow of a hill, you will see a small crossroads with some grey metal railings. Here turn left towards Mortimers Cross and Lucton. Follow lane for about 3/4 of a mile, and after going around a sharp right handed bend, pass first a cottage then a farm both on your right. After passing the farm, look for woodland on your left, about 200 yards further along. Turn left through the woodland into the Acorn Yurt drive which has a sign showing Fowden Farm. Follow drive up to house and park here. From Lucton, turn off main road directly besides the school, a grand Georgian building. Follow this lane without turning off, passing the right turning back for Lucton village. Continue down for about half to 3/4 of a mile, and look out for woodland on your right. Turn down into this woodland driveway, with the sign indicating Fowden Farm.

Local attractions

You won't find theme parks, waterparks or busy noisy attractions in the area around Acorn Yurt, just a pile of peace and quiet set in miles of cracking countryside. Close by is the National Trust-managed stately home of Croft Castle, with views over the adjacent counties and long walks through its ancient woodland. Also anciently, the medieval town of Ludlow is just over the hill and well worth a lazy day around its castle, markets and cobbled streets. Or just take to the car and drive leisurely around the local villages, many with the Herefordshire black and white houses, and most with something original to see.
