Surrounded by spectacular scenery, Rivendale Holiday Park has a range of accommodation on offer: hardstanding electric pitches for tourers and motorhomes; camping pod and family camping pod, and a fully accessible three-bedroom pine lodge with wheelchair ramp and wheelchair-accessible shower room.

The 37 acre site has a mixture of pasture, woodland and various wildlife ponds including a newly opened fly fishing lake which won a David Bellamy commendation for environmental excellence: there is a wide variety of wild flowers and wildlife on site. The fly fishing lake is ideal for beginners with few obstacles around the banks.

Campfires are allowed in certain areas provided they are contained within firepits (and subject to conditions). BBQs are allowed throughout the site (subject to conditions).

The amenity building offers an underfloor heated toilet and shower block and launderette.

The converted stone stable building houses an on-site bar and restaurant with the café open daily from 9am-5pm serving a selection of hot and cold meals.

Liked: Myself, my partner and our dog had a very enjoyable and relaxed stay.
The staff were very welcoming, friendly and accommodating.
The site was very well maintained and all areas clean and tidy.
There are plenty of toilets and showers that were spotless
The pitches are very spacious and private.
All in all an excellent site that we would highly recommend in a beautiful area close to the tissington trail, perfect for walkers and cyclists.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

Very good site, excellent location

Liked: Underfloor heated showers, real ale in the pub, log fires, fantastic fresh ground coffee in the cafe, most of all the numerous walks and cycle trails direct from the park into Dovedale - a real walker & cyclists paradise. Also the huge number of things to do when it was wet Chatsworth, Gullivers Kingdom and so on.

Disliked: Although everything was very clean, some things were a bit untidy - the shed roof with a tarp on it, construction equipment in the car park. Not disastrous - just unnecessary.

The road a very main a road quite noisy with lots of bikes and lorries at all hours, it's quite close to the main road. Was really let site down was customer service and range of goods in shop. From the manager...

Thank you for your comments. The toilet building is cleaned at least once per day (low season), twice or 3 times per day high season. We have been short of staff which has resulted in some part time help which has been trained............but not quite there yet, for which you have our apologies.
Usually, road noise does not intrude into the pitching area because it is seperated at its nearest point from the road by wooded embankments and cliffs which shield it from the prevailing south-westerly wind. However, if the wind is (unusually) blowing from the North you can get some road noise carried on the wind, which it does for miles because there is very little background noise.

Liked: Lovely setting in a former quarry with modern facilities and a bar, shop and cafe.

Disliked: Very poor customer experience spoiled the trip for my family and the family we visited with.

On arrival I was told they were too busy to deal with me and despatched me to a spot with instructions to come back the next day to pay.

Most importantly, all weekend the hot water did not work and, except a couple of short occasions, the showers and taps were cold. When we brought this to the attention ...

From the manager...

This is now some time ago, but there was an intermittent electrical fault with the boiler that was hard to trace - until it finally expired. When it did, our staff drove around frantically over the weekend trying to find bits for an industrial heating system for our electrcian & plumber - which is why we had hardly any staff left to empty the bins etc etc. To add to the fun it was muddy and, amazingly, some people were taking their dirty pets into the shower building, which was cleaned twice daily - but you would hardly have known it. We put a sign up apologising for the hot water problems in the toilet building and bought a brand new boiler for thousands rather than wait weeks for new part. A nightmare for us. Our apologies for any inconvenience.

By car

The post code to programme into your sat nav is DE6 1QU. Please note that some of our guests have found they are taken into the village of Alsop: once you are on the A515 Ashbourne to Buxton road do not turn off until you reach the Rivendale entrance which is accessed directly from the main road.

Travelling north

Leave the M1 at Junction 25, taking the A52 towards Derby. At the Derby ring road, follow signs for Ashbourne A52. In Ashbourne follow signs for Buxton on the A515. Do not take the Alsop-en-le-dale turn off – simply stay on the A515 for a further half mile and find Rivendale is on the right hand side.

Travelling south
Leave the M1 at junction 28

Terms and conditions

Please read the park terms and conditions below and the Pitchup.com terms and conditions.

1. A contract exists as soon as we have issued a confirmation and the signatory becomes liable for the total fees. Your deposit with Pitchup.com secures your booking and is not refundable - if you have not paid a deposit you have not booked a pitch. The balance of all bookings must be fully paid 28 days before the start of your holiday, or after your booking if the holiday is within 28 days. If the balance is not paid in time we are entitled to cancel the holiday and Pitchup.com will retain your deposit.

Deposits and balances are only refunded where we are unable to provide the booked holiday and have had to cancel before the holiday is due to start, and the cause of the cancellation was something that could be foreseen and was within our control. Unforeseeable events beyond our control include (but are not limited to) terrorism, war, natural disaster, fire, disease, government quarantine, interruption of utilities, extreme weather conditions etc.

We recommend you arrange insurance to protect against loss.

2. Liability is only accepted where guests suffer injury or loss as a result of our negligence.

Bring a torch: we have low lighting levels so you can enjoy the night sky.
Wear sensible footwear: Rivendale is an elevated, natural location with uneven rocky surfaces, often icy or snow-bound in winter.
Your party must be covered for personal and vehicle third party liability. All vehicles must have a current MOT and conform to the Road Traffic Act. The Highway Code applies on the site.

5. Dogs welcome in certain areas of the park but there are strictly dog-free zones in the interests of health, safety and guests who are not dog lovers. Dogs are not permitted in the bed and breakfast rooms and certain of the holiday caravans. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. Dog owners are asked in the interests of child safety and the amenity of the other guests to ensure dog mess is kept off the park. Equipment and disposal points are provided within the dog walking area: please ensure you make use of these. Large dogs of a frightening nature are not accepted via Pitchup.com.

6. For the sake of other guests, no noise after 10.30p.m. – radios etc. are unwelcome at any time if played in the open or so loudly they can be heard by neighbours. Please keep noise to a minimum before 9.00a.m.

7. Cyclists to ride with care and concern for everyone. Cycling is only allowed on the roads, not between pitches.

8. Children under 6 years old must be accompanied by an adult all times in the park and within the buildings. Parts of the park are hazardous by virtue of their steepness, possibility of rock falls or because building works are in progress. These areas are identified by warning notices. No liability is accepted for visitors entering these areas or allowing other members of their party to do so deliberately or neglectfully.

9. Unrelated mixed groups and all-male and all-female groups in excess of four persons are not accepted via Pitchup.com. The park management reserves the right to cancel or terminate a holiday booked where a group has failed to disclose all material facts as required by the booking form or where we receive information that the persons are likely to breach park rules. We may also require any person breaking the rules or creating a nuisance to leave the park at once. In those circumstances the company shall not be under any liability to the persons involved to provide the accommodation, goods or other services promised in the contract or any form of compensation for the same.

10. Loss or damage for which any occupier of the pitch or accommodation is responsible must be paid for in full before departure. Guests will provide credit or debit card details and acknowledge that we may use these to debit the reasonable costs of making good damage.

12. Open fires are prohibited anywhere on the park. Camp fires and barbeques contained in a metal fire pit off the ground are allowed in certain areas on the park - not all areas - provided they are contained so as not to allow hot ash to fall onto the ground, do not endanger property and are away from combustible material. Liquid or gas accelerants (e.g. petrol, diesel, blow lamps) must never be used to start fires or barbecues. Nothing other than clean wood or charcoal may be put on to a barbecue or fire. Guests are responsible for ensuring that none of their own party (or any third party) makes contact with hot metal, wood embers etc - particularly as a result of their leaving the fire pit/barbecue unattended in a dangerous condition. A responsible adult must be in attendance at all times with a lit fire or barbecue. In the event guests discover an uncontrolled fire, they should follow the procedure described at the fire points. Emergency telephones are inside laundry and reception.

15. Removal of caravans/motorcaravans/tents (defined as ‘units’ for this clause).

Units left on pitch beyond the period booked will be charged at the current daily pitch rate. They may be taken off pitch and immobilised pending settlement of any accounts. The removal charge is £10, and storage off pitch is £5 per day. Removals in these circumstances are carried out at the owner’s risk. Also, we are not liable for damage to immobilising equipment or units, where it is incurred restoring mobility to a unit.

16. Free and chargeable events

Each year a number of events are staged free of charge or for an entrance fee for the benefit of seasonal and touring customers. No warranty is implied that sufficient tickets or room are guaranteed for every person on site at such events. Tickets are issued on a first come, first served basis from reception against full payment. The café, bar, lounge and other facilities are open at different times throughout the year. Seasonal pitch holders and static van owners do not have access to chargeable events on site unless they have purchased a ticket.

17. You undertake not to bring onto the park hazardous substances, weapons or drugs, not to commit acts of vandalism, nuisance or other criminal activity. Also, that you will not carry on any trade or business whilst on the park and will not bring lorries and other commercial vehicles onto site. No recreational vehicles such as scooters may be used on site without prior consent.
